Why the decision to transfer?
"I had dreams and aspirations of one day playing in the NFL. It's just a numbers game. There's nothing wrong with UCLA, I don't have any beef with the program. It's not like I'm mad at anyone. It's a business decision, man. Some of my family isn't happy with it. Some of them don't want me to leave, but right now I have to do what's best for me."

Do you feel you got a fair shot at UCLA?
"Some people I didn't get a fair shot, some people say I did. I can't really sit here up and say that I didn't get a fair shot. Things didn't work out the way I wanted them to. It's nothing against the coaches. Right now, they have to go where it feels right. Unfortunately, I got the short end of the stick."

Too bad, I liked Knox

but we will be just fine. I guess this opens up a spot for Riley to work out of the wildcat, which the coaches had promised him.

MJD Jr...not to be

I always envisioned Knox as a guy who could step into the mold of MJD because of his stature and running style, but I guess the coaches felt he wasn’t a complete enough back. I don’t know that for certain, but it seems the coaches put a premium on protection and catching the ball out of the backfield, so something was missing because he looked good with the ball in his hands.

Luckily, we are pretty stacked at TB, and perhaps this move will open up some room for Anthony Barr because I feel like we’ve been missing a traditional power back since Manuel White. Not only that, but we have plenty of young, talented linebackers coming into the program. Good luck, Milton…wherever you end up (I’m putting my money on Fresno St. or SDSU).

Bummer

Too bad for all involved that it didn’t work out. Good luck to Milton in the future.

As for the roster, we’re good at RB. We need some big stud OLs for them.

Best of Luck to Milton

I liked this kid so am sorry to see him go. But it looked like he was just going to be buried on the depth chart, and this gives us another scholie for next year’s class, which is also a bonus.

my concern is that we don't pull a Cheatey Petey

stockpile running backs, and diminish the whole by spreading minutes to widely.

I would like to see a featured back like Maurice Jones Drew or DeMarco Murray get heavy minutes with relief minutes going to an understudy that will soon fill the role.

bad circumstances...

with so many holes on our o-line ove the past few years we couldn’t afford to put a back out there who couldn’t block either. really unfortunate because i think knox had a lot to offer. he may have been the best ball carrier on our roster, well until this recruiting class came in. but he has to do what’s right for him and given our depth chart at running back we shouldn’t really be affected much. best of luck to milton.

+1

Milton Knox and Aundre Dean were two of my favorite recruits and now we’ve lost both.

Why? In my eyes, they were the victims of our offensive line problems — not that they could not run behind it, because both did as well as the others, but because they were not great blockers.

With out O line problems, to get playing time in our backfield you had to be able to block. And, that was not the strong suit of Knox or Dean.

Both guys were good kids and I will miss them. I’m bummed because Dean is from Katy, just up the road from where I live and Knox went to my alma mater, Birmingham.

And, I think we will hear a lot about them when they play again. Dean is on a TCU team that should be even more successful this year than it was last — and last was quite good.

Wherever Milton goes, I wish him great success.

It's too bad it took a transfer for Dean to finally accept his role

If I’m not mistaken, he’s now in the same situation he would have been in here position wise except now he had to sit out a year.

Dean

Not sure we can blame that on OL. He was converted to a safety at TCU. Patterson’s staff seemed to agree with CRN’s staff on where Dean fit in.

OL

I tend to agree that the O-line didn’t really give them a chance to shine. In the end though, well rounded backs that can also block will give us more options heading into the future. It is sad to see these two go, such high hopes when they were recruited. Wish them both the best, seem like good kids.

I'm bummed

about this one. I know we have a long line at RB so I figured this would happen with someone. I was hoping he could break out this year but he wouldn’t have been the starter – maybe 3rd? I can understand his decision and wish him all the best.

At least he left with Class

No bad feelings. Couldn’t ask for more.

Can we trade him for an O-Lineman?

On a serious note, he seems like a great kid, I bummed he’s leaving. I talked to him at the end of the Spring Scrimmage, and both my brother-in-law and I got the impression he was going to transfer.

Imagine if college kids can be traded w/o sitting out a year if its best for both families.

Best of luck to the young man.

Sometimes, whether in schools, or teams, or in workpalces, a person is not just the right fit for the particular environment or situation.

It sounds like Knox is leaving with grace and courtesy, and with respect and gratitude for the coaches. This can’t be easy for him, but he’s trying to make the most of his situation, and I can’t really fault him for that.

Hope he lands in a place where he gets solid reps and maximizes his potential.

Good luck, kid, and thanks.
