UCLA Looks To Extend The Season Against Cal State Fullerton
Well not much else to say beyond what Ryan wrote in early morning post game re-cap. UCLA Bruins (46-14) have had a terrific baseball season to date but it will all come to a close this evening, if we can't exorcise our Titan ghosts. Trevor Bauer will look to extend UCLA's season for another day against the Titans, who are going to counter with Daniel Renken (12-2, 3.95).
The Bruin offense simply didn't get it done last night, failing to come through in key situations and making unfortunate mistakes. Hopefully they will put that behind him today and do a much better job of executing the little things with the season on the line.
The game will be televised live nationally on ESPN2 and will also feature a live video stream on ESPN3.com. The first pitch is scheduled for this evening at 4:00 pm PST. You can also follow along with GameTracker or get updates on Ryan's UCLA baseball twitter. So might as well thread this as our game thread with updates, thoughts, analysis and anything else.
GO BRUINS.

Great bunt by Amaral!
Gallego scores from 3rd! 2-1 Bruins now in 5th, 1 out, runners at 1st and 2nd.
rally time
bases loaded, 1 out, bruins at bat in the top of the 5th
My two favorite teams are UCLA and whoever is playing $C.
sounds like my beloved sf giants
except we’d ground into a dp to end it, not pop up twice.

2-out RBI single for Fullerton.
Tied at 2-2 now.
Delayed steal fails for Fullerton!
End of 5th as the runner was easily tagged out at 2nd.

Anyone following this Dillon Baxter melodrama?

Yeah, originally...
I was thinking those 5 schools may be in trouble, but now with Baxter’s phone… I’m not so sure anymore.

Off topic... but the guy who runs Utah's Rivals site...
says Texas A&M is out and the University of Utah is in for the last Pac-10 invite.
that would be sweet....
you should check out this link about A&M (nsfw)
I didn't get the Baylor bear at first....
but once I understood it…that was f’ing hilarious…
ROFL!
This other one, however, is rather simplistic and offensive. I’m talking about the one with UCLA being forced to do something inappropriate to Texas.

That should’ve been a strike. Instead, guy gets a base hit on the next pitch.

Bearing, guys! Bearing.
Damnit, bouncer gets through to RF.
Titans lead 6-4 now.
Wow
Ground ball gets through 2 guys in the infield.
They are just a better coached team
You can disagree with me, but watching them play and the way they make contact with runners on base, bunt successfully, and don’t beat themselves………it is painfully obvious.
Bauer's Done
It was the right decision not to pull him. He was getting dinked and dunked by Fullerton.
Well, I assume he's done
They got out of the inning.
Silly Me
Thought Savage might have figured out a way to beat CAL STATE DISNEYLAND, but no, he couldn’t beat them at Irvine and now same at UCLA .
It’s going to be 3-20 versus these guys IN A DOWN YEAR.
Just about the same feeling as when we punked out against Villanova in hoops a couple of years back.
Except that 'nova was a demonstrably better team throughout the year
Here, not quite so

Fullerton brings in pitcher Hernandez...
who was INELIGIBLE for the ENTIRE regular season.
Really?? You let a guy play for ONLY the NCAA Tournament?
By the way
How does a guy get to be academically ineligible but get to pitch in the tourney?
REGIS! It’d be cool if we could get home runs with guys on base.
CSUF's semester ended last month (probably)
If he got sufficient grades in the Spring term, I imagine he could come off of probation
formerly bruinhoo
Most likely.
It still seems a bit shady to pull. Hernandez at least loses a whole year of eligibility with this, right?
It’d be similar to some schools ending their winter quarter right before the NCAA Tournament in basketball, and getting someone who was ineligible all winter to suddenly play in the tourney. (Has that actually ever happened?)
Pretty much
By participating in the tourney, he can’t take this as a redshirt year. Not aware of that happening in the tourney – I think the scheduling works just right to keep that from happening – though I imagine it may be an issue with Football and bowl games.
formerly bruinhoo
Winter Quarter ends right around the Final Four
The schedule might line up just right on occasion. There seems to be more value to redshirting in basketball though, with less players getting drafted and leaving early.
by SuperBruinMan on Jun 12, 2010 7:13 PM PDT up reply actions
It seems like...
those with academic issues in football don’t return for bowl games, even though they take place after fall grades have been entered in the system. But with football, I guess one single player probably doesn’t make that much of an impact enough to burn a whole year on just the bowl game.
I remember Tom Osborne letting Lawrence Phillips back for their bowl game for the national championship, but that was after Phillips had beaten up his girlfriend, and not academics-related.
With basketball, we’ve had players with academic problems in the past, but I can’t ever remember any one of them being ineligible during the season, and then coming BACK to play in the Sweet 16 or Final Four after Winter Quarter was over. We just knew they were done for the year, and that was that.
Another HR by Cody!
Thank God!
"The true athlete should have character, not be a character."- John Wooden
And then 3 straight outs after Regis's bomb.
6-5 CSF going to bottom of 8th.
That's not because of roster management issues
That’s because some of the best players are good enough to pitch and hit.
Yeah, I'm just noticing that
roughly 40 guys on the roster. They don’t seem to specialize like they do in the pros
