UCLA Looks For One More Victory Against Cal State Fullerton
Again what else can we add to UCLA baseball's epic win against Cal State Fullerton last night at Jackie Robinson Stadium? It was the first win at a super regional for UCLA since the format started in 1999. There was also all those Titan ghosts lurking all around our team and the fans when the Titans kept taking the lead or coming back in that incredible game. Thanks to Tyler Rahmatulla belting his own version of Megan Langenfield's (Gonzaga like) magic, the baseball team gets one more shot at Omaha in tonight's last game of what has been nothing short of a wonderful season at JRS.
Hopefully Rahmatulla, Cody Regis (who belted his 7th and 8th HR to keep the Bruins in the game), Trevor Brown (whose pinch hit 2 run single gave us the lead at the top of the 10th) and rest of the team will muster up another victory tonight. Our Sunday starter Rob Rasmussen takes the mound tonight for the Bruins, as the Titans will counter with freshman right-hander Dylan Floro (7-1, 3.08 ERA).
The first pitch is scheduled for this evening at 7:00 pm PST. You can also follow along with GameTracker or get updates on Ryan's UCLA baseball twitter. So might as well thread this as our game thread with updates, thoughts, analysis and anything else.
GO BRUINS.

channelsurfing.net lists “men’s CWS, teams TBA” at gametime for us. (Last night’s stream wasn’t our game, frustratingly.)

how about elsewhere in the country?
My two favorite teams are UCLA and whoever is playing $C.
Sent my family to the safe room.
Practiced my Bruin yells. Got plenty of bean dip. Hangin’ on to my life-sized Joe Bruin stuffy.
Play ball!
No problem, my family's in the safe room

CSUF is at bat first...
1B, runner on first.

Batter hit by a pitch
0 out…runners on 1 and 2

It's not how many you have the end of 1..
it’s how many you have at the end of 9 ( or 10 if you look at last night)
My two favorite teams are UCLA and whoever is playing $C.
Pedroza steals second
Runners on 2nd and 3rd, one out
hope so...
another game like last night and I’ll need a heart surgeon.

Sarcasm?
I missed most of his at-bat, just came in to see him strike out swinging. How many pitches did Beau see?
Ah, I see.
Hmm… the gametracker doesn’t seem to keep track of number of pitches, unfortunately.
I always wondered why they are taught that so young.
Just a bad habit. My wife hates baseball because of that.
End 2
UCLA has had no baserunners at the end of 2. At least we can’t complain they’re leaving people on.
Whew! Gallego made that catch interesting.
Argh, Colon hit by pitch. 1 on, 1 out.
Ras is having some control issues
How bout them Horned Frogs?
Pedroza sac bunt.
Runner advances to 2nd, 2 out.
Nah
We are going to have the lead after this half the ninth inning.

Not grammar police, but that’s a pet peeve of mine.
Sick passes by Boston...
from Pierce to Rondo to score just now. 89-82 Boston with 35.2 seconds left.
Boston wins game 5, 92-86.
And Niko smelled out that pitchout from CSF.
Wait, he went back to 1st?
What just happened? lol
Oh, you saw it too.
Yeah, I swore he stole 2nd on the first pitch to Rodriguez.
Beau's up at bat now.
And he’s only got 3 HR’s on the year. But he’s batting .342, so let’s hope for a solid base hit.
Base hit by Beau!
Game tied 1-1 now. Dunlap up next.
Single to right!
Run comes in! Go Bruins!
Runners on first and second with one out.

Welcome to the Twilight Zone.
Not to be confused with the ESPN Zone.
CF DROPS Tyler's hit!!!
2 runs in, Bruins lead 3-1!!!!!
yeah, there's definitely a time disparity
between ESPN360 (ESPN3?) and whatever the rest of you are watching it on, because i got to hear about the CF dropping Rahmatulla’s hit before i got to see it happen.
thanks!
I know JW would want to win fair and square
but you can’t tell me we haven’t had an angel in the outfield this whole week

Getting lucky with that error but I’ll take the two runs

Better you than me.
Everytime I call something, it goes horribly wrong. Reverse mojo doesn’t work either. I just keep my trap shut.
Lopez grounds into fielder's choice.
So close to a double play, though.
For you World Cup followers
It seems that Tim Howard may have played most of yesterday’s game v. England with broken ribs.
And to think that Green couldn’t even save a gimme shot when healthy.
formerly bruinhoo
Saw that news on ESPN too
Hopefully he’ll be ok for their next game Friday. Howard was definitely the player of the game for the U.S. and we’d have trouble without him.
And I’m still laughing about Green’s blown goal! Lucky for us!

I think there was a newspaper headline following the game
“United States wins 1-1!”
NY Post
the Star of London : “The Hands of Clod”
My two favorite teams are UCLA and whoever is playing $C.
Actually...
ir read “Hand of Clod”, a play on Maradona’s famous “Hand of God” goal that beat England in the 1996 World Cup
Another fielder's choice back to Rasmussen.
Again, almost a double play
Rass fields the comebacker, gets the lead runner
but w/o chance to pulls the double play. 2 down

And suddenly...
my next door neighbors are playing REALLY loud music with a deep bass that’s vibrating my wall and actually making it hard to hear the commentary on ESPN2. :-\
Strikeout!!!
CSF player thought it was a ball. Heh.
Bruins don't seem to spit as much
I’m following this detail closely

Though, he sort of leaned the knee in there to get hit.

CRAFTY!!!! I love the way he pitches. Composed. Nasty. Tough. Keep it up RR!!

On his way to the dugout lol

Need a couple more
cause Fullerton will put together a rally.
Announcers were warning that...
Ras looked at the CSF dugout, and may have woken up their sleeping giant. So let’s score this inning to put them back to sleep.
Robin Ventura
Concern trolling a little too much. Ras is just being aggressive.
by Nestor on Jun 13, 2010 8:53 PM PDT via mobile reply actions
Had Tyler stayed at first...
it would’ve been a double play ball. Ah well.
beauty, lets tack on one more insurance run on here
William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.
that hurt to get it back so close, at least the offense showed some life late
but between the Lakers losing and the Dodgers getting swept, this is all I have left to put my hope in
William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.
haha thats sports for ya
the losses always hurt more than the gratification of a win : (
William Doolittle at your service, a.k.a. will do.
Floro's up to 94 pitches so far.
Catcher Steve Rodriguez up now.
Ventura
Forgot to mention how Ras’s aggressive pitching and emotion might have fired our hitters up too.
by Nestor on Jun 13, 2010 9:07 PM PDT via mobile reply actions
No excitement please.
Just keep doing what you’ve been doing. I want a nice boring baseball game from here on out.
Bleeding powderkeg blue and gold for 55 years. Go Bruins!
OK, Marcoe still K's...
so Steve’s drop didn’t come back to haunt us.
Great 2-out rally in the bottom of the 6th
Thank goodness the dropped foul didn’t come back to haunt Ras.
I'm watching the game on one tv and recording the ktla tribute to coach on another.
There’s a lot of Erickson and Kareem talking. It looks like it’s really good. I’m wondering if there is a way to upload the whole thing or if that’s a copy write issue?
Go Bruins!
this is not counsel
From my understanding you can upload it for your personal use. However, you can’t obviously distribute the copy at a massive level (ie here). I believe you can share brief higlights (has to be brief) online through your yt accounts.
Obviously cutting and pasting entire articles or shows are prohibited on BN,

At was at last night's game. The ucla crowd sounds so much louder tonight.
Or is it just the tv?
Go Bruins!
Not as easy to be loud...
when you’re down by 5 runs.
Ump calls Regis safe at first...
Serrano disagrees. Hmm.
Sorry. I had to move away
from the game to watch the Wooden tribute on KTLA. What a great piece of work by KTLA. All of you should TIVO it if you can…….even if it is just for the half of it. Jamaal Wilkes just said that Coach is in “Basketball Heaven”. They brought out old KTLA video footage of Coach Wooden and to see it was incredible.
Giovanazzo grounds out to end inning.
But yeah, it looks like they had just gotten Regis at first.
I'm a Cub fan
You don’t count down outs.
Ever.
I’m still waiting for the damn 4th out in 2003.
I was counting down outs in 2002 in the World Series
I think I’m still stuck at 3. I can’t remember, the month of October from 2002 seems to be erased from my memory.

Historic CWS
Saw a great documentary today on espnu about the whole CWA experience in Omaha.
Bruins will be part of history as this is the last CWS at Rosenblatt Field.

Don't worry about the runner...
just get the outs at the plate

One out
Though we know that hasn’t meant much this series…
CWS!
UC! LA!
Love that they just did a spellout for “Omaha”!

WOOOHOOO
Absolutely beautiful pitching by Ras, way to go Bruins!!!
In ASU game...
just as the announcers said ASU needs 4 more outs to advance to Omaha, Arkansas gets an RBI single to cut their lead to just 5-4.
Last night CSUF was 2 strikes away...
no lead is safe!

great night ... goodnight you all
Go Bruins!
by Nestor on Jun 13, 2010 10:07 PM PDT via mobile reply actions
What makes this even more sweet..
is thinking about that clown Nick Ramirez slapping the mound after saving the game Friday night.
He's not retired...THANK YOU!
On a 1-2 pitch at that
So ASU was 1 strike away.
And that was one of the best closers in all of college baseball.
Wow
razorbacks tie it up. that was clutch. remind you guys of anything? =p
End the game already! I had the WCWS game cued up on the DVR!
The replay of the women’s championship series game 2 was scheduled to start at 10pm, but the ASU game is still on.
Hopefully it will stay in the lower teens.
My friend just pointed out how there is always at least one 17+ inning game this time of year in college baseball.
Pitching will take us deep in Omaha ... Anybody know anything about Florida?
The key to getting by CSUF was having three legitimate pitching aces to call upon for a weekend series. CSUF had two starters that could match up with Cole and Bauer, but they had a freshman going against Ras. With Texas now out, I don’t know of any other staff that has the depth in the starting rotation that we have. In a double elimination format, that could be key.
With that said, does anyone know what we’re up against with Florida?
Thanks
I appreciate the updates.. working late and no TV here!

HUGE PROPS TO UCLA BASEBALL
They did today what Lakers were unable to do today: destroy their old nemesis after falling 0-1 in the series. Gutsy.
Nice to see all the supports from the athletic department,
including coaches from other sports, CRN, other student athletes.
