"With respect to what’s going on across town, really we have no interest in that. Seriously that’s their issue," he said. "We don’t want to be a program that worries or gloats about anybody else’s situation. We want to take care of ourselves. We want to do things the right way. We want to be proud of how we run our programs. We want to play with unbelievable integrity, unbelievable sportsmanship and unbelievable competition. I promise you that’s what we’re going to do."

And Rick is also a Trojan, having

attended the school for his advanced degree.

I don't think

CRN considers himself a “Trogan” for going to graduate school. We have had this extensive debate before. Anyone who goes to an undergrad with great athletic programs remain loyal to undegrad. Michigan undergrads who go to ND Law don’t consider themselves to be “Irish” and vice versa. There are number of BNers who went to Southern Cal’s grad programs .. but that doesn’t make them Trogans. They just used those institutions for their professional degrees while remaining loyal to UCLA.

Hey!

I was going to put all these quotes in my post! Oh well…I would have had to paraphrase. It was so awesome to hear that, made me so proud.

But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

by tasser10 on Jun 14, 2010 9:34 AM PDT up reply actions

Now you can directly blockquote it

This fanshot is perfectly set up for your post!

I love it but, come on guys

“With respect to what’s going on across town, really we have no interest in that.” Other than the fact that it kills their recruiting. I get the point of the quote and I love it, but to say that he/we has/have no interest in was SUC does is just not true. Look at BN, probably the most posts outside of recruiting or game day threads when the hammer was dropped on the cheaters. Again, and maybe I am nit picking, I love that he says we just focus on doing things the right way, but we ALL have an interest is what happens over there.

doesnt look like their recruiting is slowing down at the moment

they just picked a commitment from marcus martin over the weekend.

And why not?

The sanctions they have picked up in the past has not stopped them from paying their guys for the last 60 years. They can point at an unbroken string of payments, and guarantee their recruits that the money will be sent to the off shore accounts just as promised. Their parents will be asked to keep the new wheels out of sight for a while.

What did you expect him to say?

I’m sure he’s excited about it but you can’t gloat about that stuff in public, especially when the press is there. In case you hadn’t noticed, CRN has already won many recruiting battles against U$C. But there will still be some kids who will go there instead because they just don’t cut it academically for UCLA. And the Trogans will continue to pay their star players.

But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

just wondering

did we decide if the word coach was going to be limited to Coach Wooden? if so, does that mean CRN or CBH shouldn’t be used anymore?

by ovillarr13 on Jun 14, 2010 2:18 PM PDT reply actions

I believe that "Coach" in the singular is reserved exclusively for Coach Wooden

CBH/CRN or “Coach Howland” or “Coach Neuheisel” are fine, at least by my standards.

I still think the word "Coach" ought to be permanently retired at UCLA

There are other synonyms for the leaders of the other sports.

But once again I perceive myself to be a voice crying out in the wilderness.

I believe

there are t-shirts that say “what would Wooden do?” on them…

But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

Coach would have said it too.

Here’s why Coach Neuheisel’s comment is pure class. IMHO, Coach would have said the same thing. In our lives we should regularly ask, “What would Coach do?”

And its the truth, as has been repeatedly stated on this site, we have to get ready to beat these guys on the field. This is evidence of Coach Neuheisel’s fixed, determined, inviolable laser-like focus on the real issue: beating sc during the next decade.
