UCLA Takes On USC In The Final Championship Series In Omaha
Here we go. A battle royal between UCLA (51-15) and USC (52-16) for the ultimate prize in college baseball. We wouldn't want it any other way. The incredible baseball season for UCLA continues as the Bruins will take the field as designated home team in just about half an hour in the final series ever to be played at Ryan's House in Omaha.
As always the regular BN members should be familiar with all the storylines around this game by now. Bruins will take the field behind one of their three aces: Gerrit Cole. At the time I write this post, it is unclear who USC will go with among Blake Cooper (12-2), Tyler Webb (3-2) and Jay Brown (3-0). Whoever takes the mound, the Bruins will have a battle. They will need to stay locked in the same manner they have done all through this season despite experiencing adversity.
The first pitch is scheduled for this evening at 4:30 pm PST (ESPN). You can also follow along with GameTracker or get updates on Ryan's UCLA baseball twitter. So might as well thread this as our game thread with updates, thoughts, analysis and anything else.
GO BRUINS.

2) How many strikeouts will Gerrit Cole get?

I'm with you on Mike Patrick.
You may not remember this, but, at the start of the Bulldogs’ first overtime possession in the 2007 Georgia-Alabama game, Patrick turned to Todd Blackledge and, out of absolutely nowhere, asked: “What is Britney [Spears] doing with her life?”
Absolutely maddening.

Looks like it.
Both teams just need to settle down and play their respective games.
This series ought to feature some first-rate pitchers’ duels, but the fielding is leaving a bit to be desired on both sides tonight.

For whatever it's worth . . .
. . . the Diamond Dogs faced Blake Cooper during the regular season. He allowed nine hits to what was not a hard-hitting Georgia squad, but he lasted eight innings and improved to 8-0 by striking out nine, walking one, and conceding just four earned runs.

Just caught up on dvr
Best thing is we got a lot of ab’s, but wow-this is a brutal start
This is starting to remind me of the Purke TCU game.
Hitting grounders right at the infielders. Feeling hopeless.
except Purke was on full rest. USC's pitching is tired
it’s the third inning. this guy is on three days rest (and he’s no Purke). something’s gotta give.

Chopper, pitcher flips to first

If it's any consolation . . .
. . . Georgia won the first game of the College World Series finals two years ago, then went on to lose the next two games to Fresno State.
It hurts me to have to say that—-it’s been all downhill ever since for Bulldog athletics—-but an opening game loss by a California team to an SEC East opponent in the CWS finals is far from fatal.
Go 'Dawgs!

We've gotten a K and a H in the last inning
Maybe something starts?
Gerrit is just starting to warm up.
As long as he is keeping them off the bases, he can stay out there all night. He certainly won’t be pitching again this season.
That's the spirit.
It only has to happen once.
Don’t get me wrong, though . . . I wouldn’t mind it happening twice.
Go 'Dawgs!
we need some hits!!!!!
come on BRUINS!!!! keep the faith!!!!!
Have to get some hits or runs to actually get to their pen
Don’t need it completely rested for tomorrow.
Cole should have thrown 90 pitches before the game to reach his stride on time. Lets hope Ras gets some rest . . . great against CSUF and so-so vs purke
Curious of the sentiment out here... Ucla
1. Has been outplayed by a better team
2. Was unprepared

I still haven’t recovered from this fact, but the team that started out 0-1 won the next two and took home the national championship trophy.
