UCLA-USC College World Series Second Game- Extra Innings Thread

Can Amaral and the boys get anything done tonight? Photo Credit: Brad Williams (UCLA athletics)

Our offense can't be any more inept. Seems like it really doesn't matter at this point.

Then again, what the heck. Might as well give it a shot in an overflow thread because our season is over any way. There is no way we are winning this game. There is just no freaking way ...

GO BRUINS.

I was just thinking that a new thread would bring good Mojo! Go Bruins!

All right, guys . . .

. . . ten innings is my limit when I don’t have a ‘Dawg in the fight. (Also, it’s almost midnight here in Georgia, and I have an appointment first thing in the morning.)

Good luck the rest of the way. I’ll congratulate the winner in the morning, but, either way, congrats on a great season, and go Bruins!

But this series ends with an incomplete and bitter feeling. At least for me.

by Nestor on Jun 29, 2010 8:59 PM PDT up reply actions

It always feels like that to me when we don't win.

But it doesn’t mean they didn’t give it there all. It just wasn’t there for them. Baseball is a weird game I think.

Go Bruins!

by uclaluv on Jun 29, 2010 9:01 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't feel like we gave it all

On the offensive end in last two games. Sorry.

by Nestor on Jun 29, 2010 9:02 PM PDT up reply actions

Actually effort does play into it

We didn’t look focused and locked in. Making dumb base running mistakes. Multiple times. So I don’t believe we gave our best effort when the biggest prize was on the line.

by Nestor on Jun 29, 2010 9:07 PM PDT up reply actions

yeah

It’s the mantra for UCLA’s major sports teams every year.

by Nestor on Jun 29, 2010 9:00 PM PDT up reply actions

And

I am a little tired of it.

by Nestor on Jun 29, 2010 9:00 PM PDT up reply actions

Not like we're the Cubs though

We are the Bruins and when we say next year we mean it. Shit, we say “next year” when we WIN.

by littlebrother on Jun 29, 2010 9:04 PM PDT up reply actions

Well

In baseball we have been kind of like the Cubs. In football we have been more like the Red Sox pre 2004. As for basketball … I don’t really know .. the future is up in the air.

Again, tired of “next year.” BN might not last that long.

by Nestor on Jun 29, 2010 9:05 PM PDT up reply actions

When you play your best and are defeated you tip your cap

when you play like crap you feel empty….
UCLA did not play well and USC took advantage, congrats to them

The moment seemed too big for UCLA to handle – frustrating

by Nakatomi Plaza on Jun 29, 2010 9:00 PM PDT reply actions

We better watch out

If USC wins the next 105 national championships, they’ll be ahead of us

by UCLA Band ' on Jun 29, 2010 9:01 PM PDT reply actions

Good job by the "good" USC..

..but you gotta wonder about the four dollies they had in the stands with “C”, “O”, “C”, “K” on their bare midriffs. Rooting or advertising?

(Geez, I gotta have a lie-down.)

God, it's great to be a Bruin!

by WHP '68 on Jun 29, 2010 9:32 PM PDT up reply actions

Cole is really emotional

We’ll be back next year. Break in the new stadium.

by UCLA Band ' on Jun 29, 2010 9:02 PM PDT reply actions

South Carolina was better than advertised.

I am impressed with them. UCLA’s offense did not put up much of a fight . . . some of it was SC but some of it was self-inflicted.

by orlandobruin on Jun 29, 2010 9:03 PM PDT reply actions

Great year

I said to my wife before the first game that it was a tremendous accomplishment to get this far and that I hoped we were not embarrassed. Not sure how we ended up on that scale but it seems that these were two of the poorest hitting games we have had all year, back to back, if not the poorest. Not sure what happened. They sure seemed VERY tentative. Great nucleus for next year. These guys will be hungry.

by loganeagle on Jun 29, 2010 9:04 PM PDT reply actions

This has not been a good CWS...

for any of the nationally seeded teams.

by BruinKid on Jun 29, 2010 9:04 PM PDT reply actions

Having played softball at a high level, it's hard for me to say the batters didn't give it there all.

Sometimes, it doesn’t matter what you do, you just can’t hit the ball when or where you need to. It’s very different than other sports I’ve played where it felt like it was more about effort.

Go Bruins!

by uclaluv on Jun 29, 2010 9:05 PM PDT reply actions

Like they say

Whatever you do, you’ll win 54 games and you’ll lose 54 games. Unfortunately, these two we lost.

what did we give them

4 or 5 outs by bunting?

horrendous.

keep on playing for one run and you will keep on getting none.

by wildthang on Jun 29, 2010 9:24 PM PDT reply actions

But nonetheless

fantastic effort, especially from the pitching.

Should do a lot of good for the program, and I see no reason why this team won’t be right back in the mix next year.

bruinhoya banned?

Could I suggest sleeping on that decision? I think we’re all a bit emotional after that game and the season coming to an end and it doesn’t seem like the best time to make such decisions.
