Bruins Take On Defending National Champions LSU Tigers
Well if this was any other weekend, this would shape up to be one of the biggest game in the history of UCLA baseball. Bruins (44-13) started off their second season on a great note, cruising past Kent State by a score of 15-1. It sounded like one of those total team wins in which everyone in the lineup contributed to a solid start. Bruins will need to now build on that by taking on one of the most legendary baseball programs in the country and the defending national champions LSU Tigers.
The Tigers are coming off a heart stopping win over UCI. They might be a little spent but they will have lot of built up mojo on their side. Speaking of the Tigers, it has been wonderful interacting with the good guys over And The Valley Shook. We hope the LSU fans have a good time in LA. Hope our fans are being good hosts. With that said hope Trevor Bauer and the Bruins are locked in and focused on the Tigers. LSU will start right-hander Anthony Ranaudo.
The Bruins will play as the designated visiting team against LSU (41-20). The game will be televised live on CST (Cox Sports Television) and will feature a live video stream on ESPN3.com. The first pitch is scheduled for this evening at 6:00 pm PST. You can also follow along with GameTracker or get updates on Ryan's UCLA baseball twitter. So might as well thread this as our game thread with updates, thoughts, analysis and anything else.
GO BRUINS.

Cal has managed to embarrass the Pac-10
by being the only 2 seed eliminated in 2 games. Stanford is the only other school with the (likely) possibility of joining them.
Which game?
I lost track of the final, but remember that Cal was down 10-2 to UNC midway through last night’s game

ICED!

TAKE A KNEE AND CHUG IT, BRUINS
But really, sorry for the passing of Wooden. Must be tough on you.
Good Luck.
Corazon y Alma
Anthony Ranaudo...
went into the season as a potential top 5 pick and is stil a likely a first rounder. He had arm problems early this season and has been inconsistent this year but has come on stronger of late.
Can’t find the lnk on ESPN3. It doesn’t appear to be available.
Help!

Now scheduled to start at 6:35.
Will the Gametracker show this game is in the “Irvine Regional” like they did last night?
Some disorganization at the NCAA. I guess kissing all that U$C ass this last week has them shaken up.

Yeah, Gametracker shows Irvine Regional
With the teams from last year’s Irvine Regional. Whoops.
Is there a link? May was well watch somrthing right now . . .

Just realized tomorrow's late game is on during the Laker game.
Looks like laptop + TV tomorrow night.
Georgia just beat Florida in softball
UCLA will play Georgia at 10 AM tomorrow then again at 4 if they lose.
Looks like a shooting gallery behind the plate.

We've been through a lot of variations.
Navy blue for a long time, then royal blue for a bit late in the Adams era. Since Savage took over, they look sharp.
LSU certainly has a lot of fans there
at least it seems that way from the ESPN3 feed.
I’m not really surprised, and I’ve never had a problem with Tigers fans. Just interesting to note. Hope it’s a good game and we come out on top!

Just got online...
for those of you like me sadly without ESPN3, here’s a link to a feed with crappy video and no audio…but better than nothing, I guess (especially when combined with bouncing back and forth to this thread).
http://www.justin.tv/otbababooey
isn't espn3 just an espn website?
Just checking to make sure you don’t think it’s an extra tv channel. Apologies if I’m just stating the obvious.
Yeah, but it's not available to all internet users.
I know Comcast and all universities have access.
Oh, gotcha
didn’t realize it had restrictions.
Anyone else having an issue with ESPN3 where only the audio comes back after the break?
I keep having to refresh to get the video back.
yep
happened to me after every commercial break

Bring it home Bruin brothers and sisters.
I’ll try to keep up with the thread.

They're from Baton Rouge

I don't think I hear other announcers do it
I watch a lot of SF Giants games, and as kooky as Kruk and Kuip can be, I don’t think they ever go “hey this is a good time for a home run.”
I do it at home, or scream “NO MORE DOUBLE PLAYS!” but never by the announcers.
Looks like every Pac-10 team lost today. (assuming no remarkable comeback for 'Zona)
ASU up and UCLA up. Hopefully both can represent the conference.
I sure hope Bauer decides that a UCLA education is more important than going into Triple A with a shot at the Bigs. I think he’s worth a million dollar signing bonus right now.

He really bulldogged his way out of a few real tight spots where UCLA could have put the game out of reach.

Here are the CWS rules. I imagine they're similar for regionals.
How is the home team determined?
The highest-seeded teams advancing from super-regional tournaments shall be the home teams for the first-round contests. In the event of a match-up between equally seeded teams, a coin flip will determine the home team. In subsequent games, the home team shall be determined according to the following formula:
The institution that has been the home team the fewer number of times shall be designated the home team.
If the two teams are equal in this respect but unequal in the number of times they were the visitor, then the team that has been the visitor more often will be designated the home team.
If the two teams are equal in the number of times that they have been home and visitor, the games committee or the NCAA game representative shall observe the following procedures in the order stated:
—If the two teams have met previously in that particular tournament, the visitor in the previous game shall be the home team in the game in question.
—The team that was visitor in its preceding game shall be the home team, unless both teams were visitors in their preceding games.
—If the above procedures do not resolve the matter, the home team shall be determined by coin toss. The coin toss will be held on the field immediately after the game that caused the situation to develop and both coaches are requested to be in attendance
The Division I baseball committee has determined that for the championship series, if one team advances to the championship series with no losses and the other team has one loss, then the undefeated team would be provided the choice in the first game of selecting to be either the home or visiting team. The other team not receiving the choice in game one would be designated as the opposite option in the second game (e.g., if the team with the choice in the first game chooses to be the home team, then in the second game the team not receiving the choice in the first game would be the home team). The home team for the third game, if necessary, would be determined by a coin toss prior to the game. If both team enter the championship series either undefeated or with one loss, then the home team for game one would be determined by a coin toss prior to the game. The other team not designated as the home team in the first game would be the home team in the second game. The home team for the third game, if necessary, would be determined by another coin toss prior to the game.
A pretty bad one, too....would love to shut out these clams and send their crowd home

Bauer needs to come out. He did pitch a great game but he's tired.

Bauer is still in...
but he’ll have a short leash.
My two favorite teams are UCLA and whoever is playing $C.
Savage was trying to save the bullpen inning for tomorrow (and potentially Monday).
He’s still got a good cushion here.
Yeah, but if we lose tomorrow...
Claypool could be starting Monday (or coming in for a short-leash Cole).
Savage coached a great year but is blowing this game!

Our pitching is set up perfectly for this regional now.
Rasmussen tomorrow. Cole (who only threw 75 pitches Friday night) and Claypool Monday if necessary.
I don’t mean to be ungenerous because it’s been a great season, but Savage’s decision to leave Bauer in was horrendous.
Bleeding powderkeg blue and gold for 55 years. Go Bruins!
Ordinarily I would agree with you
But he had a huge cushion and he might need his bullpen Sunday and/or Monday.
I think Savage has earned the benefit of the doubt here. He rolled the dice and lost, but we still got the W.
I think he figured he needed time for Klein to get warm.
Probably should have had him up and ready to go.
I thought leaving him in to start the 9th was ok
He had retired 10 of the previous 11, and it would’ve been nice to save the bullpen. Leaving him in after the first double was questionable, but it was only 1 run with the team up 6-1.

Come on out guys!
There were more UCLA Bruin fans than LSU Tiger fans!
A moment of silence for John R. Wooden before the game.
Its ironic
The rationale for televising the Fullertton regional on ESPN was that the NCAA wanted to show games with bigger crowds. Yet the four games at the UCLA regional so far has drawn slightly more fans than the Fullerton regional (despite the longtime claims of Fullerton fans that UCLA should never get to host a regional because their attendance and stadium were inadequate.)
Not to mention Fullerton lost their opener to Minnesota
