Influential Baylor Lobbyist Playing Up "Baptist Church Base" To Diminish CU
Bob Bell at Ralphie Report (via the Dallas Morning News) shared emails from a Baylor lobbyist - university regent Buddy Ryan - sent to to Baylor alumni and supporters within the Texas legislature in an attempt to get the Bears into the Pac-10. You have to read all juicy parts here but this is what really sticks out (emphasis added):
Baylor is superior to Colorado academically. Baylor has athletic facilities superior to Colorado. Colorado doesn’t participate in the number of sports that Baylor does. Baylor’s overall record in all collegiate sports dwarfs that of Colorado. Our football, basketball (women’s and men’s), baseball, softball, track, tennis, golf programs are vastly superior to Colorado’s. The Baptist church base extends across the country and certainly trumps the University of Colorado’s local base limited to a small town in Colorado.
The more I read about this institution the more turn off I get about their university. That kind of boasting certainly doesn't fit the profile of a Pac-10 program.
Color me not only unimpressed but frankly nauseated. I am all for expansion featuring Texas, Texas A&M, OU and Colorado. But I certainly don't want these Baylor clowns in the Pac-10.
GO BRUINS.

Hmm
I’m Baptist, but I didn’t know Baylor was Baptist. Maybe Buddy Ryan (wasn’t he also a famous football coach?) overestimates the football knowledge of his Baptist fan base. Or the Baptist knowledge of his football fan base.
I’m against including Baylor into the Pac 10. Also Texas, Oklahoma, OSU, Nebraska, Rutgers, UConn, Nebraska or Slppery Rock. (Well, maybe Slippery Rock.)
The PA State Athletic Conference would never let...
…Slipperty Rock go…it’s the biggest sellinbg name among the 12 teams.
Travel a little further south and you could go after Rolling Rock as an alternative.

Same argument for BYU
I’m not comfortable with religious universities in the Pac-10. I mean, I’m a Christian and all but I’m not for it. Maybe if they secularized like $uc*. I’ll eat my hat if ND tries to come in but that’s not going to happen and the same argument applies.
Why is the legislature of Texas forcing the Pac-10 to take them? I mean, how many rivalries can you have? I thought it was Oklahoma for Texas?
EGO TROIORUM MALLEUS SUM
No worries 102...
Baylor is as “Religious” as Bill Clinton! (Another Baptist! Albeit southern) Both are poster ads for seculraism. So the Pac-10 would be safe. I agree with Nestor on this one…it’s nauseating.
That’s maybe why FOX71 didn’t know that Baylor was a “Baptist” University. I too FOX71 am a “Baptist”. My daughter graduated from a Baptist College that had a “Distinctive” Baptist education. believe me when I tell you…it’s wolrds apart from Baylor.
I am curious…what makes you uncomfortable with religious Universites 102?

Yes, because all Baptists are Baylor fans
Seriously, this has to be one of the dumbest things I’ve heard all day. I had a cousin who attended Baylor – it’s a fine school. It is, however, guilty of possessing an inferiority complex of the highest order – particularly as it applies to this matter.
Also, referring to Denver as a ‘tiny city in Colorado’ does Baylor no favors. You’re talking about Waco. Freakin’ Waco. There’s only one reason people know that Waco even exists, and it ain’t because of Baylor.
Colorado is also eminently more attractive to the Pac-10, because, despite what one guy from Texas says, Colorado has significant alumni ties to California, nevermind the decision of many Pacific Coasters that make the move out to Denver.
So lame
But no different from those weekly letters/emails that the LAT editor-in-slime posts
