[Update w Video] Megan Langenfeld = True Bruin
Bumped. GO BRUINS.-N
UPDATE (N): Here is the video (thanks Scotucla03):
On how her performance impacted the CWS, Langenfeld says:
My performance doesn't mean anything. It was the team. I was just a small part of it. Bunch a lot of little things add up to a great thing, and that's a national championship for UCLA."
She then added:
It's just "It" .. It's Bruin magic.
I may be biased as I went to the same high school as Megan and was just a couple years ahead of her, but that statement right there should echo throughout the Bruin athletic community as a model of the attitude we expect and reward at UCLA.
Congratulations to the Bruin Softball team for delivering number 106. Could not have been a better series against the Wildcats. And kudos to Langenfeld, for representing not only the excellence but the class of our university and our athletics program on national TV.
Go BRUINS!
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

As I just said in the post game thread
That interview gave me the chills. That was one of the best interview I have seen featuring UCLA student athlete in a while. Simply amazing. I hope someone youtubes it or uploads a video for it. May be Tele can do his magic.
+1
I was really impressed with that interview, taking no personal credit. True team player and Bruin.
all the credit to Megan
just really proud of a Bakersfield girl doing so well at UCLA. And we don’t have too many Centennial alumni doing as amazing things as this.
My nephews and niece are all Centennial grads
and my nephew grew up playing little league with her brother. I’ve been pulling for her like crazy and our family is all out of voices from screaming last night after her walk-off. Go Hawks! Go Big Red!!! GO BRUINS!!!!!!!
CHS! the red the gold the best!
thanks for the post dwdbruin. Centennial is a great school that I hope will produce more students and athletes like Megan in the future. Bakersfield is such a USC haven, glad to see the Bruins having more of a presence there.
Garces grad here
I don’t necessarily like Centennial as they were rivals of Garces when I was there in the 1996-2000 time frame, but nonetheless I love seeing a Bakersfield girl play well for the school we all love.
Two things
1. I believe Megan has earned initial status on BN. Go ML!
2. I nominate ML for the UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame.
Hmm so she's replacing Malcolm Lee?
Works for me.
He can be ML2

On Lengenfeld from the AP:
“Langenfeld was unanimously voted the event’s Most Outstanding Player after going 12-for-17 with four home runs and nine RBIs. She reached base in 18 of her 23 plate appearances, also drawing four walks and getting hit by a pitch twice. The national player of the year finalist was the winning pitcher in UCLA’s first three wins at the World Series and hit the winning home run in the eighth inning of UCLA’s 6-5 victory against Arizona in Game 1 of the finals.”
I still think there must be a typo in those numbers
I don’t remember her getting out.
Her batting stance looks like a left handed version of Evan Longoria, although Evan’s numbers aren’t even remotely Langenfeldian.
Also, on Arizona's 9 runs
Only two other games in the WCWS had a team which scored 9 or more runs: UCLA against Florida (16) and Tennessee against Arizona (9).
After her WCWS performance and that interview
I’d definitely consider revising my “favorite Bruins” list from a few weeks back. I imagine she at least snuck into the honorable mention section for a lot of us that watched the last few games.
Can we please
get a re-vote for National Player of the Year? Danielle Lawrie won it and promptly exited the WCWS with an 0-2 record. Lang will always be the player of the year to me, even though she couldn’t care less about individual awards.
She would have won had she been healthy throughout the regular season.
I am sure she would NEVER trade a championship for that award though.
In the DC Metro Area
I was taking my kid to school in the morning and at the drop off the Safety Patrol girl (a Fifth or Sixth Grader) had a UCLA Softball hat on. It was so cool to see that way out here.
UCLA Softball....
…best epitomizes the spirit of UCLA, student athletes, and what it means to be a Bruin. We’re so fortunate to have such great representatives for UCLA, and our softball team……and their National Champs, too! I watched the entire game with my seven month old son on my lap, granted, he was sleeping most of the time. Doesn’t get any better than that. And to beat Arizona, that is sweet.
we use to call them 'BRUBABES' in the olden days...lol
i am so proud of these women, these gifted athletic women…what joy they brought us all who watched them DESTROY the U of A…such power such grace and to uphold EVERYTHING that the COACH has taught us all…this has been a good year for UCLA…first the WOMEN’S GYMNASTIC team , and now the WOMENS’ SOFTBALL team…UCLA RULES!!!!…106 and counting…:)

Congrats to the UCLA Softball Team!
Remind me about how long it takes to figure out a Bruin v toejam again?
Really enjoyed following softball these past few weeks
Went to the Regionals and had so much fun, I took my 6-year-old daughter to the Supers. We sat right behind the Bruin alum players and my daughter loved their spirit and cheers. She watched the WCWS with me and did her eight-claps when we scored. She’s loved UCLA for a while now, but I think attending a women’s event lit a little fire in her.
BTW, did anyone else notice how the BSPN announcers kept saying we had won 10 national champinships rather than 11? Someone must have said something because on the last night they mostly said 10 NCAA championships. Still, where’s the love for the ’78 AIAW Champs? That team included a couple of gals who also were on the AIAW Basketball champs.
6 of 12
I think she was quoting #6 of Wooden’s 12 Lessons in Leadership: Little things make big things happen. That was an awesome game! I was so glad to be able to catch it here in the Midwest.
BTW, I got my almost three year old daughter doing the U, C, (clap, clap) L, A cheer. She even does it on her own while running around the house. Go Bruins!!!

Go Bruins!
Megan, again, makes me PROUD to be a BRUIN
What a class act. She is an example of what UCLA turns out, unlike the institution down the road. GREAT GOING SOFTBALL! We were so proud of her, the team and our dedicated coaches. IT IS GREAT TO BE A BRUIN!

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
today issued the following statement applauding the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Women’s Softball Team for winning the 2010 NCAA Softball National Championship, the program’s 11th NCAA title:
“I congratulate the UCLA Women’s Softball team for winning the National Championship. The dedication and commitment they’ve demonstrated on the field is an inspiration to athletes everywhere, and I am proud of the great things this team has accomplished for their school and for California.”
