3 years/12 million. per Ric Bucher through ESPNEWS. I wonder what this means for him and/or Devin Harris. Good for him though.

Yes.

Of course, since I don’t care about pro-basketball very much, I’m also a fan of New Orleans, Minnesota, Milwaukee, Oklahoma, Denver, and where ever my favorite Bruins play.

I hope no Bruin signs with the Celtics

It is so easy to root against Boston teams. If the hockey team would only change its name.

I hope no Bruin signs with the Heat.

while I think that would be a great spot for a role-playing 3-pt and fundamentals specialist, I would hate to have to root for that team if Mike Roll were to end up there…

I was thinking that would be good place for MR

Not sure he can make the pros but if he did it would be in the Steve Kerr sort of role.

Heat

It’s gotten to the point … I think I will actually root for the Celtics if they take on the Heat during the playoffs next year.

Kawakami

Former UCLA beat writer for the LA Times (in the mid 90s). I liked him because he was one of the first to call out Lavin.

Or as Mr. BB says root for the meteor

When two teams he can’t stand play each other, he says he roots for a meteor to crash on the stadium so that neither team wins.

I choose my pro loyalties the same way.

After having lived in a couple of major markets, I’ve been a bit of a homer for the locals, but can’t say in any pro sport that I have “my team” to root for, though there are a few I root against. I enjoy watching good games, and I choose my loyalties game by game based on favorite Bruins or comparative numbers of Bruins on each roster. I’ll root for MJD, AA, DC, JF and others no matter what team they’re on. I’d even hold my nose and root for the Raiders if MJD somehow became one.

In the immortal words of the pin I got while an undergrad: Roses are red, violets are blue...f*** $C.

If MJD was picked up

by the Raiders….that would be heaven!! : )

Perish the thought

I never want to see MJD in those colors, partially because players’ careers die in Oakland.

I didn't think he'd go that route

I thought he’d look for a team he could start on, not to play behind a 26-year-old one-time All-Star.

With the potential lockout looming

and not knowing about any other offers, I’m not surprised by his accepting another backup role if it offered the most money. Plus he should still net more playing time than he was on the Lakers.

by Chris09 on Jul 12, 2010 10:05 AM PDT up reply actions

I agree with you

particularly given that he isn’t going to ‘inherit’ the job from a retiring or even a traded starter. But he only signed for 3 years, probably hopes to make more impact in a more open system before landing a starting gig somewhere else. Maybe get some time on the court alongside Harris as well, a la JF/DC combo his soph year.

Just saw this on the comments on ESPN, thought it was marginally worth sharing:
Dear Los Angeles, All Of Southern California and Lakers Supporters Wherever You May Be Tonight;

As you now know, our former 9th man, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Los Angeles Laker.

Clearly, this is bitterly disappointing to all of us.

The good news is that the ownership team and the rest of the hard-working, loyal, and driven staff over here at your hometown Lakers have not betrayed you nor NEVER will betray you.

There is so much more to tell you about the events of the recent past and our more than exciting future. Over the next several days and weeks, we will be communicating much of that to you.

You simply don’t deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal.

You have given so much and deserve so much more.

In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight:

“I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE LOS ANGELES LAKERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘JEWISH JORDAN’ WINS ONE”

You can take it to the bank.

If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Los Angeles, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our “motivation” to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.

Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there.

Sorry, but that’s simply not how it works!!!!!
Sincerely,
Jerry Buss

Farmar will soon regret it

Why ride pine for a cellar dweller when you can ride pine for the best?
Dude needs to improve his game. If he can learn how to do more with less (increase productivity with the playing time he does get), and mimic Kobe’s work ethic… he can develop himself into a legitimate starter on half the leagues teams. Dude hasn’t improved one bit since UCLA. The offer he got demonstrates that. Jordan isn’t even AA.
