UCLA sophomore offensive guard Stanley Hasiak will not compete for the Bruin football team this season because he did not meet NCAA academic eligibility requirements.

Just when things were starting to look up.

Considering what happeened last year,

This might be a good thing for Stan. It will give him for time to adjust to dealing with both school and football. He will also have less pressure being part of the scout team.

"NCAA eligibility requirements"

Does that mean academics, or is it something else?

No need to assume

Here are the exact words on the blog:

UCLA sophomore offensive guard Stanley Hasiak will not compete for the Bruin football team this season because he did not meet NCAA academic eligibility requirements.

I added emphasis on academic.

That is really weird.

You are correct…(that’s not the weird part). I copied and pasted the above sentence from the announcement. For whatever reason, it dropped academic out. i did not catch it. Bizarre.

disappointing for sure

but can’t say I’m surprised. I had gotten used to the fact that he wasn’t going to be on the team period for a while there. Not surprising that he wasn’t able to balance school, football, and all of his other problems at the same time.

Good luck Stan!

Does this have anything to do with his LDS mission?

Or, am I getting my OL mixed up?

X-Man

It seems like he has been gone over a year and he hasn’t even missed 1 football game yet.

That is going to hurt a lot.

with him there we could have used Baca at LT where he has experience, and possibly started Hasiak at LG. With Hasiak out and Abele retired, I am very worried about that line….

after thinking about this a few seconds more....

Casey Griffith’s recruitment is starting to make a lot of sense.

This guy has been a train wreck so far.

My guess is that he will never be a reliable starter in the program, but I hope I am wrong. It is a shame he is wasting an important opportunity in his life.

Odds are he's leaving again

I wish he’d stayed in Hawaii last December. The coaching staff’s re-recruitment of him raises a major red flag for the O Line this season.

Lots of people seem to be thinking of this as strike 2

Without full details of the situation, it seems highly likely to me that the his suspension from the team and returning home for a while and his now being academically ineligible are related. I wouldn’t be surprised if the coaching staff knew this would be a possbility when they brought/allowed him back on the team. With all the time he spent away from campus it’s logical that he would have fallen behind on coursework/units. My point being, until we know for sure, I’m willing to believe that he has recommitted himself and that this is just lingering effects of his extremely rough first year. Hopefully he’s on track now.

Good point.

I am with you on this one. Let’s give the kid the benefit of the doubt and hope that he can turn things around.
