Updated -- Shocker: Lane is Discourteous (Screws Over Trogan Alum Jeff Fisher)

Ex-Trogan Jeff Fisher, coach of the Tenn. Titans (who I saw tip an under thrown pass to Freeman McNeill for a thrilling Bruin victory) has had one of his assistant coaches poached by Mr. Kiffin.  Protocol be dashed, Lane didn't even ask permission.  Instead, he did the Mike Garrett trick of "dialogue by Voicemail."  Here are some excerpts:

"I am very disappointed in Lane Kiffin's approach to this," Fisher told The Tennessean on Saturday. "Typically speaking, when coaches are interested in hiring or discussing potential employment from coaches on respective staffs there is a courtesy call made from the head coach or athletic director indicating there is an interest in talking to the assistant.

"So I am very disappointed in the lack of professionalism on behalf of Lane, to call me and leave me a voicemail after Kennedy had informed me he had taken the job. It is just a lack of professionalism."

Yep, the new era of ethical conduct at Troy is off to an excellent start.

UPDATE (B):

Per SI, Hello Kiffin has come up with a rather lame excuse:

"Kiffin attempted to rectify the damage later Saturday, finally reaching Fisher and discussing the abrupt move. Kiffin then issued a statement that didn't exactly deny he had breached protocol, saying he first spoke to Pola on Friday, and then called Fisher on Saturday after Pola called him back, apparently to accept the job.

"I have spoken with Coach Fisher and he now has an accurate understanding of the timeline of events,'' Kiffin said. "We realize the timing of this isn't perfect for all parties, but this is a great opportunity and promotion for Kennedy.''

oh Kiffin... never seems to disappoint

and also, has anyone else noticed that this isn’t the first time an article says Southern Cal is his alma mater? He went to college at Fresno State. So much for responsible journalism.

Actually, on reading the article

I don’t see any references to USC being Kiffin’s alma mater…

Titans coach — and USC alum — Jeff Fisher

Has there ever been a player better than Detlef Schrempf?

RIght

Jeff Fisher went to $c, not kiffin.

I'm not sure he tipped the pass, I think McNeil took it from him

And then went down the sidelines for a TD.

I was sitting next to the King of $c, who kept making snide comments the whole game. I really think he was on the board of trustees (no kidding), and he couldn’t keep from saying cute little things. Then when we were sure to win, he left early, and I made sure he knew that I was a Bruin and that he was …., well, you get the picture. I have always had fond memories of Jeff. (My former secretary went to high school with him, and thought he was good looking, but an a-hole.)

What was worse was what went before.

SC purchased a touchdown. I could see through my binoculars and the Trogan wasn’t close to making the end zone, but the paid zebra called it a TD. Which gave the cheats the lead, necessitating the Fisher heroics.

but there was another article Nestor referenced in the last couple of weeks that said so.

lame has shown his lack of class yet again.

Discourteous?

That’s one of the nicest things you can say about him.

NO WAY, IMPOSSIBLE.

I thought they just reformed themselves over at USC…

Didn't Fisher get the memo?

Lane knew in 10 minutes that was the guy he wanted on his staff. Fisher didn’t react fast enough.

small tidbit

From what I remember, Kennedy Pola and Troy Polamalu are related.

My big question is why promote Pola to OC? And, who will really call the plays? Promoting Pola from RB coach to an OC seems like something a smaller school would do. Why is USC/Kitten doing this? Could it be they can not find a reputable and seasoned OC to work there or is Kitten the anti magnet? Is Pola being set up to take the fall if Kitten’s offensive genius proves to be hype? Inquiring minds want to know.

Good one, 7477.

And I understand they are in negotiations with Hannibal Lecter’s agent for team physician.

A great testimonial buried in the SI article flagged above....

“Although Kiffin has mostly avoided trouble since returning to the Trojans…”

After all he has been there such a long time.

And also this...

“The state of Tennessee hardly needs another reason to dislike Kiffin…”

FYI

Irony of all ironies, Kennedy Pola (former SC team captain) started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at UCLA (92 and 93), and spent the last four years as MJD’s position coach.

Wow, they went from chasing Norm Chow to hiring Kennedy Pola?

It must be like hiring musicians for the Titanic after it struck the iceberg.

Then he manages to piss off a Trogan alum in the process.

I don’t know what to say about that but it feels like a laugh and a sneeze combined.

If any of you caught what was going on at SEC Media Days this past week......

….the general consensus was that everybody was happy to have seen Kiffykins gone from the conference.

Not that long ago I wrote a blog article stating that Lame Kitten’s burning his bridges behind him, and he just set another one ablaze with this latest stunt.

Apparently this weasel has no idea what the word PROTOCOL means.

How Is It

that this continuous train wreck hasn’t hired himself a full-time personal manager?

He’s certainly got the money, and by now even he must realize that he is incapable of proceeding with any action in a proper and acceptable fashion.

How is it that this guy keeps getting pushed upwards when he's not only a complete douchebag but also a lousy coach?

In the olden days when I was a partner in a law firm, we had junior associates like Lame. We had a special name for them – ex junior associates.

Per L.A. Daily News: Kiffin claims the deal went down so fast........

He didn’t get a chance to contact Fisher until it was over.

Memo to Kiffikins: You are supposed to contact the prospective coach’s employers BEFORE you contact the coach.

I think Haden’s going to lose whatever hair he has left.
