Nero was in Troy!
Dan Wetzel taking Cheatey and Mikey to task. Hey Dan...we've been saying all this stuff for a few years now...

Come on, Wetzel - he isn't St. Patrick.
Wetzel has already started the beatification process of Ethical Pat: “Haden is a mature and educated man whose focus is ethics and says his life has been guided by never wanting to do anything that would embarrass his now late mother.”
Look at the record, Wetzel. He lived with the head coach when he played there. He was there in the days of selling tickets for cash, and the most cash went to the star players. That’s not a debatable point. I guess according to Ethical Pat, his now late mother would have been OK with that.
St. Patrick was on the same board of trustees with the guy who said just$c* didn’t cheat, it just broke the rules, but Ethical Pat said nothing. Apparently that would have been acceptable to his late mom.
Wetzel thinks its a mark of merit for him to give a non-ringing endorsement of Lame. Hey, Dan, a non-ringing endorsement would have been to say that Lame was a horrible pick, and would be asked to tender his resignation. So I guess Ethical Pat’s late mother would be OK with that.
And how much more gutless can Ethical Pat get? No one would dare say anything about someone’s mom after she had died (although other parts of the trogan family had no qualms about insulting Coach before the news of his passing.) So now, if we question St. Patrick’s ethics, we’re insulting his late mother. Hey, Pat – I don’t mean to insult your mother, but how about a straight answer: What are you going to do about McKnight? There are more questions, but I can only insult someone’s late mother so many times before I just get too embarrassed.
As much as I love watching Troy burn
Can we focus more on the excitement around UCLA? It seems like the majority of our fanposts are regarding those d-bags across town, not UCLA. I know this kind of stuff is big news everywhere, but I’m suffering from SUC overload. At this point it just makes us look obsessed with the failure of SUC, rather than the success of UCLA. We are playing right into their hands.
I know some UCLA fans will disagree with me by saying that we’ve been waiting for SUC to get theirs for quite a while. Frankly, I don’t care if they get busted. I just want to beat the ever living crap out of them. You know their “fans” are just going to claim conspiracy when we beat them in the upcoming years. It’s enough to make me sick.
Let the hate rain.
If there's so much exciting stuff going on
Then why aren’t you posting it here for all to see? Surely there’s tons of UCLA news in Mid/Late July despite the fact that there’s no school, no sports, and very little recruiting. If you don’t like reading about the cheaters across town getting what was coming to them, you are welcome to not read it or leave altogether. I don’t understand why you’re worried about what their fans think about us. Most of them are too dumb to form coherent thoughts and opinions to begin with, much less summon the requisite mental capacity to utilize our attention to their failures into anything that may remotely benefit them. You talk about conspiracy yet also talk about “playing into their hands”. Lighten up, Francis. We’ve still got a long way to go here.
LOL at "Lighten up, Francis."
One of my favorite movies of all time.
I in fact didn’t even bother to read the article on U$C. I don’t care about them. But you are correct…there’s not much else going on this time of year. And when I find news stories out there about UCLA, I definitely have and will fanpost/fanshot it on BN.
I don’t think U$C fans will use our attention on their sanctions to benefit them, I think they’ll try to use them as an excuse for their failures. I guess it doesn’t really matter in the end, because as you said…why should we care?
one thing to always keep in mind
Fanposts and fanshots are designed in a way that allows eveveryone to contribute with not just Ucla related stories and articles but also initiate conversations.
There is just no way the frontpagers will able to write or think about everything (as much as we are passionate about all things Bruin). So it would be awesome if you all can continue to chime in w your thoughts on issues Bruins should note or chat about. The place is designed in a way it allows great writers, analysts to rise to the top. And no worries if you don’t get the first post perfect. They never will be. You just have to keep at. So blog away HB and everyone else. :)

There is more to be said
Fact—southern cal has run the most corrupt athletic program in the history of this nation and done so to make money.
And it hasn’t stopped since the NCAA sanctions report came out. Last week, the university apologized to major Division I institutions for falsely asserting they were violating NCAA rules. That’s called lying.
It hasn’t stopped since the new athletic director took office. The new athletic director was a lawyer suspended from the practice of law because he refused to pay his bar dues. And since Haden became AD and new assignments were made to the lawyer led compliance program, southern cal continues to pursue its utterly silly appeal of the nominal ncaa sanctions. And a former southern cal player, NFL Coach Jeff Fisher, just raised an ethics charge when the current southern cal coach unethically tampered with one of his coaches. All of this since Haden became athletic director.
Sure, some of the sc commentary is banal. But most is not. Some of the commentary would be treated as breaking news if the LA Times still had reporters. Some of the satire and lampooning is first rate. Some of you guys who say you are lawyers are also pretty decent comedy writers.
When those dudes across town change, we will stand down.

I agree with peggysue 100%
and this is for two reasons. First, she is spot on with her statements.
Second, and equally as important, I want to stay on her good side. I think I would rather have the Terminator coming after me than peggysue.
I admit I enjoy reading about the fall of Troy.
It’s all the more enjoyable because almost all of these rat-bastards during the five years of the Bush investigation were far beyond that river “denial;” they usually gloated sanctimoniously about how they were untouchable. Then when they were properly slapped hard by the NCAA, they exponentially made things worse by claiming it was all about penis envy and had nothing to do with obvious malfeasance and outright payola.
Since the mainstream sports outlets have fawned over SC’s lies for years, one can hardly get enough of articles like Wetzel’s that FINALLY tell what we knew all along. Pete Carroll is a complete, lying fraud who only “won” big because his was the only professional football team in town. He created and fostered the corruption his entire regime from beginning to end. And his boss, Mike Garrett, reveled in it.
As for their new AD, he has only been on the job about five working days. I have always admired his story from a distance, though I had to suffer plenty when he played QB for their team. A Rhodes scholar is a Rhodes scholar. There is an excellent piece on him in The Times today. His achievements are substantial. He is saying all the right things. His praise of rivals Stanford and Notre Dame must be killing some of his own alumni. So I am going to give SC’s new President kudos for his quick and good choice.
My only concern is that I read somewhere that Haden was one of the major movers behind the hiring of Lane Kiffen. I don’t know if that is true, but if so, his judgment was poor and he unwittingly made his own success as AD that much more difficult. It doesn’t mean he can’t do his job right as AD. We all learn from our mistakes. If he did play a role in Kiffin’s hire, it was before the sanctions, which is somewhat mitigating also.
As for Kiffen, he is the gift that keeps on giving. Now he has pissed off a huge Trojan alumnus, who turned down the SUC job, Jeff Fisher. My guess is he will continue to screw up on a regular basis, embarrassing his AD and setting himself up for the door unless he injects himself with a hugely successful first season, something he has no history of ever doing. I don’t know if his departure would be good or bad since I am counting on our Bruins pun king him every year just like we did last year at Tennessee.
Of course, like any true Bruin, all I really care about is our football team taking care of business with our nemesis like we did when Cade was under center. It’s about fricking time. With a level playing field we should be mighty fine for a looooong time.
GO BRUINS!
I forgot one thing!
The Times has a little box score claiming SC has 113 championships, more than our official NCAA lead. Is this more puffing by the sycophants for Troy? Or are they counting non-NCAA championships?
I don’t get it.
GO BRUINS!
I saw that to: they say National Titles and it goes back to 1925.
Many sports did not earn ncaa championships for many years. Women, for instance, did not earn ncaa championships until 1981, I believe, and then only 10 woman’s sports qualified. Football, still only earns titles, not ncaa championships. I wonder, if counted in the same way, how many national titles we have? Anyone know?
Go Bruins!
Haden was on the Board of Trustees when all this went down!
I saw the fishwrap at the coffee house today, and couldn’t even read the article on Haden “Dashing Figure”. It looked like one of those admiration pieces they usually do on everything trogan. But, it’s important to remember that he was on the Board of Trustees when all of this was going on. And no one with any interest in anything trogan could not have seen what was happening. I do blame all those involved with running the “university” for not doing anything about what was happening. I remember watching a Cal – $c game and even the commentators were questioning how Reggie’s parents were able to fly around and stay at fancy hotels, given they’re jobs. For Mr. Haden to have been part of the school and to claim to be clean is not plausible to me. I will wait and see what happens, but all those associated with the program cannot claim to be clean of all that happened. If he is so good, he should have intervened earlier. For him to have been any part of hiring Lame, if this is true, shows he doesn’t care about running a clean program. I might be wrong, but I doubt it.
Go Bruins!
Hy, I think you're buying into the PR just a little
No question that Ethical Pat was a great player. No question that he was named a Rhodes Scholar. [Footnote – I don’t know how to do an actual footnote so I’m sticking it in here: I don’t know how Rhodes Scholars are picked. I do not know if the selection process can be manipulated. If it is all strictly on the up and up and tamper proof, then that’s another feather in Ethical Pat’s hat. But if the selection process can be rigged, then all bets are off.] Likewise Ethical Pat managed to be a starter in the NFL, which few people can say.
But that was then, and this is now. His body of work is not just those few things. Here is a list of some others, all of which have been posted here in the past week or so:
- He lived with his head coach when he was a player. Maybe that was kosher, maybe not. It’s unusual, though, in my book.
- He was there when ticket selling was going on, according to the Clarence Reece tell-all diatribe which can be found on line. He was there when grades got changed to keep people eligible. He was there for all of that and he never said a word. He never stood up and said anything was wrong. Not at the time, and not since.
- He gave Mike Garrett “good grades” on what he did at just$c*. That’s enough to disqualify him from any admiration at all in my opinion.
- He was one of the two guys who selected Lame, according to a Sports By Brooks article.
- He was on the same board of trustees as the rocket scientist who said that $c didn’t cheat, it just broke the rules, and he said nothing to anyone about it. (None of the trustees did, which to me means that as a body they agree with the statement.)
- He hasn’t said a word about what happened in connection with OJ2 or bu$h. Is he unaware of what went on? Has he been living on Neptune for the past five years?
- And none of this includes his stint as a director of a S&L who tanked to the tune of 10.1 billion (with a B). That number approaches the football payroll, but I digress. (See peggysue69’s posts for details on this.)
There has never ever been any statement of remorse or shame from Inheritance Hall about any subject. According to all the spin I’ve seen, Ethical Pat is taking this new job as he finishes ending poverty, locking up peace in the Middle East, ending crime, mediating a truce between factions in Arizona, and just generally strolling around on water.
Apparently he has not had time to apologize to anyone on behalf of the school for all the cheating. He hasn’t had time to admonish Lame, the permanent violation. All he’s done is to mouth platitudes. Talk is cheap, in my opinion, let’s see Ethical Pat actually back up his words with action. To start with, how many additional scholarships will he give up because of McKnight and the SUV?
Fox 71, I agree with all of your points.
I’m just giving the guy the befit of the doubt after a week on the job.
If he continues with the typical SUC bs and shines it all down the road, as usual, I will be right there with you. And since I have no personal knowledge of his life, and I know sometimes people are victims of character assassination, I’m willing to give him a break to start.
For instance, living with Coach McKay. That was wide open and well known back then, written in the papers in a positive, family way. No one ever hinted at that time it was under the table or anything like that.
What really matters is today and tomorrow. The Joe McKnight case is ia perfect example. When our De Shaun Foster got caught, we were 6-0, and he never played another down for UCLA. So I expect something from SUC in cooperating with and investigating the McKnight case completely in all aspects for all players. That’s what Pat should do based on saying all the right things.
Will he? If he really believes his mother is watching he will. If not, well, that’s a different story, right?
GO BRUINS!

Pete Carroll always looked a little like Jeff Spicoli. Who knew they shared IQs? Fast Times at Heritage Hall.

My Favorite Line:
“When you take cash, gifts, travel, a car, a house (a house!), you spit in the face of every one of those teammates.”
That, in a nutshell, is the most tragic truth of this whole mess.
