Of course, Tenneesseans know all about Kiffin's lack of professionalism — after a whopping 14 months as the Vols' head coach, Kiffin abruptly quit for the USC job after Pete Carroll's departure for the Seattle Seahawks. During his time at Tennessee, Kiffin managed to accuse the Florida and Georgia programs of recruiting violations, insinuate that a Florida high school would go out of its way to impede one recruit's ability to sign with his program, and committed several violations of his own along the way. Since taking the USC job in January, Kiffin invited further controversy by getting a verbal commitment from a 13-year-old quarterback.
And it came out after the fact that the reason Kiffin may have left a message on Fisher's voicemail instead of speaking with him directly is that the Minnesota Vikings had already given Eric Bienemy, their running backs coach, a promotion and pay raise to prevent Kiffin from stealing him away. The Minnesota Star Tribune reported that USC had offered the offensive coordinator's job to Bienemy, so Pola wasn't even Kiffin's first choice. Thus, afraid that Fisher might do the same thing with Pola, Lane Kiffin subverted the system to get what he wanted. And that's where the Titans might have a case.
Pola is another USC alum — he played and coached for the Trojans before, and his nephew is SC legend Troy Polamalu(notes). And this is not a slight against Pola; he did what he was supposed to when one is presented with what looks like a better job. You man up, tell your current employer that the grass is suddenly greener, you shake hands, and you move on. It happens every day. Unfortunately, what also seems to happen just about every day is another example of Lane Kiffin doing the wrong thing ... even when the right thing is easier.

Kiffin's lame response
The Associated Press caught up with Kiffin as reported in the Nashville Tennessean. Here’s his explanation.
Kiffin, in New York on Tuesday for a Pac-10 media event, says Pola’s hiring "was done no differently than any we did at SC or Tennessee. I didn’t anticipate this. No one would have."
I an still trying to get my arms around Kiffin’s shady response. He appears to apply his standards of conduct at UT and southern cal, which have been roundly criticized.
The man can lie without shame. Obviously, he knew better. He tried doing it right with the Vikings and he didn't get what he wanted.
So, lie, cheat, and as someone said, operate in the dark. And then of course act like you did nothing wrong and lie.
He reminds me of a two year old having a tantrum to get his way.
Go Bruins!
Where's Fox?
His “disappointment” didn’t even last the whole day.
Not that any of us are surprised.

That *he* didn't expect it
perhaps shouldn’t be surprising.
In the immortal words of the pin I got while an undergrad: Roses are red, violets are blue...f*** $C.
Peg, try as you might...
…you’ll never be able to understand the convoluted mind of a sociopath. Although I’m not a psychologist, I’ve been married to one for years. She and her colleagues talk about - Antisocial Personality Disorder - which has a number of general symptoms stunning clear to Lame observers:
not learning from experience
no sense of responsibility
inability to form meaningful relationships (yet tend to be superficially charming)
lack of moral sense
no change in behavior after punishment
emotional immaturity
lack of guilt
self-centeredness
Obviously I don’t know the man, but he exposes his “self” daily through behavior and his opportunistic “logic” when addressing issues.
You’ll never get your arms around understanding the mind of such an enigma. The irony is that the superficially ‘clean’ AD, Slim Shadey Clapper, is evidencing himself as a similar, albeit brighter, example of sociopathy that is endemic to South Central.

Ummm...
The whole advisory board is composed of LAPD officers! No wonder the Trogans think they own the police.
Think about it, it may be yet another conspiracy theory from yours truly, but what did Cheatey have in mind with this kind of advisory board? “I’ll recruit thugs, chum up to the LAPD by putting them in my foundation, that way they’ll never get arrested!”
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
Lame's photos...
…all show him with one expression - “Sorry Mommy” - after he’s been caught screwing up something else around the house.
He's not even the second choice!
S.C. wanted Norm Chow first, then Eric Bienemy and finally was able to steal away Pola.
Why are we letting Pola off the hook?
I disagree with the following comment: "he did what he was supposed to when one is presented with what looks like a better job. You man up, tell your current employer that the grass is suddenly greener, you shake hands, and you move on. It happens every day. "
When you have an employment contract it is YOUR responsibility to insure that your current employer is going to release you and that YOUR contract responsibilities are met.
And even worse, why would he want to join Lame???? That confirms that Pola is not innocent on this!

Just a guess,
but the contract may have been for at will employment.
An employee can leave whenever they wish on such a contract.
Layout, I see your point...
…but there is no written contract for “at will” employees. Most Americans are at will EEs, and those who have written contracts state a time element as to employment and the specs on breaking it.
Ultimately, I agree with the point of Dad and Grad.’s post..it seems sports contracts are as porous as seives with no party taking responsibility as to the letter of the agreement when some tart arrivs on the scene showing some leg.
Pathetic.

Understood
The “we” was a large umbrella. Look at how glowing the LA Times was about Pola this morning. Admittedly they are a homey for the Evil Empire but it reflects a lot of what is being said generally.
Even in an world where contracts arent really too binding to both sides, there is still an process one goes through to break that contract. And Pola had the contract.

Someone at Heritage Hall had to know
I do not and will not believe the OC was hired without anyone else knowing. They may have taken Lame’s word that the Titans were OK or that the process had been followed. But this was not just one person making a mistake.
That said, who knows if it was Haden as he has not officially started yet?!?
by Bruin Dad and Grad on Jul 28, 2010 4:21 PM PDT up reply actions
I reason I think Haden might have been involved...
When I listened the the pms interview with him, 2 or 3 times Pola just gushed about Haden (while Petros gushed about Pola). He had nothing really to say about Lame. That’s where that impression came from. It’s just an impression, nothing to back it up.
Go Bruins!
