Surreal: 2 More UCLA Basketball Players Hurt
This is getting ridiculous.
UCLA's injury-filled offseason continued when the school announced Friday that guards Jerime Anderson and Tyler Lamb recently underwent surgeries.
. . .
Lamb said he had been dealing with the knee issue for about a year and a half and decided on offseason surgery after consulting with coach Ben Howland.
Anderson, who had a groin injury as a sophomore, suffered a nasal fracture during a pick-up game last week and underwent surgery Thursday.
So this means:
Malcolm Lee is hurt, Brendan Lane is hurt, even CBH is hurt. After playing 5 different people at Center last year, it looks like the key to next year is going to be the UCLA Medical Center!
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

So at the moment we have
six eligible scholarship players who haven’t been in an operating room in the last few weeks/months. Yikes. Even with the Wear twins in practice, we still can’t have a 5-on-5 with scholarship players. We’d better hope Blake Arnet and Alex Schrempf can play (if they stuck around), and hope we can find some good players on the IM teams.
In the immortal words of the pin I got while an undergrad: Roses are red, violets are blue...f*** $C.
I know it sounds bad
but all these injuries have to be earning us some seriously positive karma right? this means we are going to go some incredible length of time with absolutely no injuries, right?

Positives
I think injury news is always tough. But perhaps there are positives here:
1) Lamb’s issue sounds like something that should have been taken care of a while ago. He didn’t realize it until he became part of the program and got better advice through UCLA staff. Sounds like an issue that will be resolved by the beginning of the season.
2) As for Anderson, may be he has been playing hard! FINALLY!! :-)
I am more worried about ML and BL
Lee’s injury could be more serious then let on as that type of injury can have long term effects. Lane deserves every Bruins fan respect for playing hurt last year. He gave his all. Let’s hope he makes a full recovery.
I agree with you on Lamb. On Anderson, I hope you are right. Although the cynic in me thinks he probably dribbled the ball off his nose.
just goes to show
that Anderson is incapable of playing hardnosed defense…
Don't know whether to laugh or groan
Here’s hoping that is not the way we feel about Anderson’s play next year.
Injuries are never good
Worse during the season, but also very bad if lengthy during the offseason where a player is supposed to be working on honing his skills. Jerime’s injury should not keep him away from the court, but for a guy that needs to put in a lot of work to develop, any missed days are missed opportunities.
are you sure you aren't talking about our football team?
injuries were a major problem (for our QB’s anyway)
maybe this is karma and our football team will step up next year
I remember years ago
When the joke was UCLA leads the NCAA in moped injuries. In all seriousness it would be interesting to see a study on injuries. Do we do something wrong in training that causes UCLA players to get hurt more? Do we do more surgery because (like may be true in Lamb’s case) we have a great medical staff/hospital?
Too many injuries?
I have wondered about the number of basketball injuries too. But Coach Howland is a premier Division One coach and I have seen no evidence he engages in practice and physical conditioning malpractice. But none of us are at the practices and wouldn’t know if they are too tough. My gut tells me something’s out of sorts—but I have no evidence. Nada.
Anyway, Michael’s injury happens—I’ve been decked, knocked into la-la land, taking a charge. Contrary to popular opinion, basketball is a collision sport.

Not blaming CBH
And part of it is probably a good thing. By that I mean Lamb’s injury would be ignored some places but with the great medical staff at UCLA his knee will be even better.
Sports injuries
You are right about the sports injuries physicians at UCLA. I have been treated by them—first rate. I had a heel injury, could not run. 20 minutes after seeing 2 docs and an hour at the physical therapist—could run 3000 yards of windsprints in one workout within a week. (At my age, they were not so much windsprints but gasping-slow jogs.)

two possibilities
1. our players aren’t tough enough to handle CBH’s system (hopefully not)
2. the premiere medical staff at UCLA invites players to practice recklessly :P
on the plus side, TH is healthy enough to condition now? knock on wood
It's Difficult NOT To Wonder About the Practices
Two knees, an ankle and a nose…in half a summer?
Agree with N: Lamb’s knee is probably just now getting the surgery its needed for a while, anyway. Better now than later. (I’m sure there are quite a few folks out there who now wish they’d had their ACL’s replaced sooner than they did.) Lane being actually injured last season, his surgery sounds like it might be a timing issue more than anything.
I think DCBruins is right—Lee’s injury is the most concerning.
Anderson’s injury doesn’t seem that unusual to me, really, for basketball at this level.
Still, all in all, what a nightmare.
