every year. every freaking year.
Adidas? the field? Why do our guys keep breaking their feet, this shouldn’t happen.
Who else?
Sorry, I haven’t really kept track of the foot injuries, but I am kinda curious to see how many other players have suffered foot injuries (and how) in the past couple of years.
Although I want to think it’s purely coincidence, maybe it is the shoes…? I used to work at an sports retail store and I used to always talk to the associates in footwear before I made a shoe purchase. Out of the major brands the store carried—Nike, Adidas, Asics, New Balance, Under Armour—Adidas was always suggested LAST. The footwear associates would always say that the stability was poor, the cushioning was primitive, and that traction was just ‘ok.’ One of the adidas football cleats didn’t even have the spikes properly lined up. When I eventually received training for the footwear department, I had a chance to wear several pairs of shoes (around 40+) so I can learn more about each brand, and I found that adidas was mostly ill-suited to at least my needs.
FWIW, when I bought football cleats and cross trainers, the associate suggested Under Armour > New Balance (because they run wide) > Nike > Adidas.

off the top of my head
Logan Paulsen and Ben Olson (twice).
Here’s an old BN post where CRN talks about shoe support. As Nestor pointed out, it’s not necessarily an Adidas thing but man it makes you think. Reading the old post is almost eerie.

I think he had foot troubles as well. Interesting that there is only one NFL player wearing adidas. He used to play somewhere in LA, but his named has been expunged from all records, so I have no idea who he is….
Damn!!!!
Was just about to post this. Terrible news. Hopefully he heals quickly and fully.
Heres is the text per Gold:
“UCLA junior defensive end Datone Jones broke his right foot in practice today and we’ll be out for several weeks. UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel was forlorn as he addressed the media, clearly plagued by the loss of one of his defensive stars – Jones was a College Football News sophomore All-American honorable mention – and he could give no time-table on his return yet.
Jones had X-rays that confirmed the break, and Neuheisel surmised that Jones would be out until at least October. Neuheisel said Nate Chandler would likely move to defensive end with Justin Edison, Donovan Carter and David Carter manning the inside.
"
As bad as I feel for Datone
and as much as this is a killer, I feel horrible for Nate Chandler if he does have to go to defensive end. The guy is talented, but hasn’t gotten any time to learn a damn position.

I don't understand why we are moving him to DE
We already have Holmes and Graham. My understanding was that Reginald Stokes might be available this camp. There is also Tepa and Owa.
Why not keep Chandler at DT and let him learn through it. I don’t get moving him to DE.
Nate Chandler must be contractually obligated to fill in for anyone has broken their metatarsal.
Seriously. Do a search on metatarsal and Chandler is all over it. Surprised he didn’t fill in for Ben Olson.

I agree
I mean, the coaches know more than we do, but in my opinion, moving Chandler AGAIN doesn’t seem neccessary.
I am with you on this.
Either let Holmes play and get some needed experience or bring Tepa or Stokes over from the other side. Doesn’t make sense to play Nate at end unless he is quicker than all of the other guys(not likely). Not to mention, Jones will be back at some point and Chandler will have to move back to a position that will be unfamiliar.

i know right?
someone knock on wood so there won’t be anymore big injuries… maybe captaintp’s head ;) jk
hopefully Owa will be able to show something special and be able to push for some more time behind or in front of Nate.
was hoping
to break the curse, sort of a “go break a leg type thing”. Bah, this makes me sad. I guess Owa, Tepa, or Holmes is going to have to step up. No more joking next year… not that it’ll help.
i just don't understand
this happens year after year. are we cursed??

possible silver lining...
a chance to build more depth? DC’s injury was devastating, but it provided RW with more playing time. We all remember RW’s exceptional development that season. Let’s hope the backups realize what a great opportunity this is for them.

footballers take longer to develop than hoops
and unfortunately i’m not so sure RW is sitting on our bench yet. this is terrible news.

there is always this sort of silver lining
even if he ends up having to redshirt, that would mean we would have him as a slightly older guy in his 5th year. Brigham Harwell getting injured was a big blow the year he went down, but was a blessing in his 5th year alongside Brian Price.
