OT - Vinnie is coming back next year
I just read that Vinnie will be back for his 62nd year, and for the 62nd year will be working alone in the booth. I'm certainly not alone in being spoiled by so many years of listening to the best ever. I'm pretty sure that listening to Vinnie working alone and being so good has soured me on other announcers who insist on having someone to chat with in the booth.
Anyway, Vinnie's announcement is certainly good news for Dodger fans. It appears that it might be the only good news for the whole season.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Lucky
All of us So Cal kids were blessed. I grew up with Vin Scully (and Ross Porter and Jerry Doggett) calling Dodger games, Chick Hearn doing Laker games, and Bob Miller doing the Kings. I just assumed that all play by play guys were like that. Little did I know how lucky I was. I hope Vinnie calls games for the Dodgers forever.

Not a Dodger fan here, but...
I have total respect for Vin Scully. He is one of the last the remaining links, if not the last link, to the glory days of baseball. Nowadays, people calling the game try to make themselves bigger than the game, and that really makes watching games unbearable. Vin knows when to talk and when to keep quiet to let the fans at the game relay the emotion at the stadium to the listeners at home.
The Dodgers will not be the Dodgers once Vin stops calling games…and this is coming from an Angels fan.
You Lucky Stiffs!!!!
The team may be in the doldrums, but with Vin…like listening to a great audio book!!!!
The only reason I started listening to baseball again after moving towards football at age 13 (or whatever the age was for Babe Ruth League in the last century)…was after moving to LA and hearing VIN SCULLY on the radio.
Anyone who has listened to a local Dodgers game broadcast by Vin has been gifted. He offers the opportunity for young folks to hear an era of American sport that was once the norm, now a dying art - painting a picture with words.
By the way, one of the greatest send-ups of Vin was done some years ago by Harry Shearer (lovingly) as a take-off on a commercial Vin did all the time (maybe still does) for “The Famous Farmer.” (Farmer John’s) interpolating one of the lines into: “We take the porkers and kill them the old fashion way…slow and easy.”
Best wishes to Vin for yet another year in baseball.

I forgot about "dressed fresh locally"
but I didn’t forget “a very pleasant evening to you wherever you may be.”
I’m trying to think of a time when I got tired of listening to Vin, or thought he said something insipid like 100% of the modern “color men” say, and I haven’t been able to think of it.
Or when he addresses the audience as "friends" you know he really means it
Vinny is the only Dodger announcer my old man and I have known and it will be a sad day when he does decide to retire.
Another line of the Simpsons was in season 4 when the ventriliquist dummy Gabbo did his imitation of Vin Scully (voiced by Harry Shearer), “Let’s take time out from this triple play to talk about Farmer John’s pure pork sausage.”

Didn't know that one...
…and I’m surprised the show was able to get the actual name Farmer John’s past the legal folks. Unless it’s no longer in business, But then in season 4, I was still in L.A.
Thanks, Babe.

It probably wasn't Farmer John
But I can’t remember what they called it. I think it’s the season 4 finale where Bart gets all of the celebrities together for Krusty’s comback special, i.e. Johnny Carson, Bette Midler, Red Hot Chili Peppers.
