How tough is KSU's coach Bill Snyder?
Check out the official KSU site.

seems pretty impressive
KSU doesn’t have many advantages for building an athletic program; seems like he has done a terrific job (though without so much success recently…).
Haha
Seems like he did a terrific job? He literally built that program from scratch. Remember who UCLA was competing with back in 1998 for a national championship bid? Bill Snyder’s Wildcats. Just watch this video, puts everything into perspective…

right
the understatement was intended as ironic, given the tone of that website… the tough part for them in selling their program to recruits through Snyder is part of his legend is what he has done to overcome all the reasons why recruits wouldn’t want to go and play for KSU…

I'm pretty sure everyone who follows college football knows
just what an incredible job Snyder has done in Manhattan. It could be argued that no coach in history has ever done a better job building a program from nothing.

Hmmm
I sure remember that date but refresh my memory on why that terrible day involved KSU…
"The entire world that bleeds blue and gold ... they have been dying for this." - Coach Rick Neuheisel
When we lost
K-State was next in line to get into the Fiesta Bowl, but they lost a late lead to Texas A&M later that night in the Big XII Title Game.

I thought
they lost first, which gave us a chance to go to the Fiesta Bowl…am I mistaken?
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
Nope
If we won we were in. We were the number 1 ranked team in BCS standings (IIRC). KSU’s schedule was weaker compared to ours as Snyder back then scheduled creampuffs to fill in his OOC.
Actually we were No. 2, behind Tenn and ahead of KSU>

Go Bruins!
Right
However, we were the number 1 team when the BCS poll first came out. Our trip to the game was not dependent on what transpired in the KSU game. If we won we were in.
I believe by the time KSU was playing that night UCLA result was in. So they knew if they had won they were in. They then went on to choke.
Unfortunately
The actual hurricane pushed our game to week 15; the same week the Big 12 Championship was. If we lost and they won, KSU goes to the NC. If we won, we would go (most likely). When our score was announced, the place went ballistic… however, they ended up losing to A&M

They lost to Texas A&M (iirc)
W a spot in the BCS championship game on the line (in a heart breaking fashion). They were also undefeated like us. After UCLA and KSU lost FSU snuck in the title game w their only loss coming earlier in the season (I believe against NC State). Not on a laptop … So going by memory here.

I read his bio carefully and then went to Wikipedia. Clearly an excellent Coach. But . . .
There seems to be a void of information about his 3 year “sabbatical.” What was that all about?
Bleeding powderkeg blue and gold for 55 years. Go Bruins!
To the best of my knowledge
He was an older guy who wanted to retire from coaching and all the rigorous hours, but when the program started to falter (one he considers very much his) and Prince got fired, he felt the itch to coach and agreed to take over again.

Ya
He was 66 the first time he retired, with a record of 136-68-1, so I think it was his time. Must have missed it A LOT to come back to that program

K-State has
both Bill Snyder and Frank Martin. A hell of a pair of coaches for a school in the middle of nowhere!
