Bu$h says he's giving back the Heisman, according to the AP

Yahoo Sports reports an AP story that bu$h has released a statement saying he would give back the Heisman. The cheater says:

“One of the greatest honors of my life was winning the Heisman Trophy in 2005. For me, it was a dream come true. But I know that the Heisman is not mine alone. Far from it. I know that my victory was made possible by the discipline and hard work of my teammates, the steady guidance of my coaches, the inspiration of the fans, and the unconditional love of my family and friends. And I know that any young man fortunate enough to win the Heisman enters into a family of sorts. Each individual carries the legacy of the award and each one is entrusted with its good name.

“It is for these reasons that I have made the difficult decision to forfeit my title as Heisman winner of 2005. The persistent media speculation regarding allegations dating back to my years at USC has been both painful and distracting. In no way should the storm around these allegations reflect in any way on the dignity of this award, nor on any other institutions or individuals. Nor should it distract from outstanding performances and hard-earned achievements either in the past, present or future.

Maybe someone ought to call the fishwrap and find out if they've ever even heard of reggie bu$h.  Or maybe not.  That just might prompt one of those columns of one sentence paragraphs.  (I now must fill even more to satisfy the 75 word rule.  The problem is that I have nothing much to say - as usual.)

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

PR stunt.

After (if) he gives the trophy back, nobody will be able to say he (or USC) was stripped of the Heisman. Much like Nixon stepping down before he was impeached, this is a face saving gesture. I would more impressed if he just admitted (or PC for that matter) that they knew what they were doing, did it anyway, and now they are sorry.

precisely.

if he really wanted to “forfeit” his trophy, he would have done it years ago. not now. not after everybody is calling him out.

Do you consider this an admittance of guilt...

Bu$h goes on to note:

I would like to begin in this effort by turning a negative situation into a positive one by working with the Trustees to establish an educational program which will assist student-athletes and their families avoid some of the mistakes that I made.

What is there to educate? Can't take benefits!

Who wrote the statements for him? Surely he can’t.

No, DC, I don't.

I true apology directly invokes the offense. His statement beats around the bush (no pun intended) when he could speak to the specific violation and reason he is returning the Heisman.

LiLo's attorney wrote Reggie Bush's statement

Per CNN (http://www.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/09/27/celebrity.lawyer.lohan.holley/index.html?hpt=C1), “On that day, another [Shawn] Holley client, Reggie Bush, was giving back his Heisman trophy. She’d been up all night helping Bush work on his statement.”

Interesting that the same attorney that backed up Johnnie Cochran during OJ’s murder trial is the one now representing Reggie Bush during his legal issues.
