2010 College Football Kickoff: BN Special Open Thread

Well here we go. We are less than 2 days away from the kickoff of our Bruins' 2010 season but the college football madness gets started tonight. It sounds like number of you will be watching the games this evening. So we might as well get a Thursday night open thread started.

There are number of games on the docket tonight. You can see the full lineup over at WWL. As mentioned this am USC-Southern Miss game is going to be an interesting one. Steve Spurrier was a legend in Florida but he really hasn't been able to convert USC into an upper echelon program in the SEC (35-28 in 5 seasons). Should be interesting to see how he performs in his sixth season on Columbia. Nation's number 2 team - tOSU - also gets it rolling against  Marshall tonight. I will be keeping an eye on that score as well.

Star-divide

Guess some of you will be staying up to watch Southern Cal. Not yours truly. Not interested in hearing the media waxing poetic about a slaughter over Rainbow Warriors. On paper that game shouldn't be close. Anyway, enjoy watching the games. This is your open thread to take in the games, post quick random musings, analysis, takes and links like this.

GO BRUINS.

Let's start this thing off

with an absolutely incredible play from last year that ranks up there with some of the most athletic plays in UCLA history. Hopefully we can get some more of this, plus some more discipline for Akeem this year.

As much as it sucks

the refs got that non-TD call right. A player is ruled down if any part of their body except their feet or hands touch the ground so even if his elbow didn’t hit, his forearm most definitely did.

What I don’t get is why Hawaii didn’t run it. The ref never said anything about charging Hawaii a timeout after that play so they still had one to call if they ran it and came up short.
