BN Gameday: Texas Second Half Thread

One more time? Photo Credit: Stephen Dunn /Allsport (Getty Images)

Well I guess that went kind of all right. Rick Neuheisel’s UCLA Bruins are up on the Texas Longhorns by a score of 13-3. Bruin defense has been playing inspired all afternoon blowing up the Texas frontline and making Garrett's Gilbert more than interesting. Actually more than interesting. This probably was Chuck Bullough's best effort as UCLA's DC for 2 quarters. The question is whether his guys can close.

The problem right now is that the UCLA offense despite having some decent moments are not completely holding up their end of the bargain. Specifically we really need those guys to focus and cut down on mental mistakes. We need to clean all that up. Let’s hope the Bruins come out poised, focused and get their second win of 2010.

GO BRUINS.

Here we go fellers

UCLA needs to flip the field to start, points would be awesome, but field position to start the half is more important realistic as of now IMO

First half thoughts

Defense = Awesome
Marsh = Awesomer
Akeem = Awesomest

by UCLA Band ' on Sep 25, 2010 2:06 PM PDT reply actions

Too many points left on the board

Don’t want to sound unhappy about a 13-3 lead, but you can’t leave at least 6 points on the board in a game like this. It’s going to be harder for us to hold this lead with six less points than we should have.

We’ve got to learn to score when we reach the 20 yard line. Just another sign we’re not quite there yet.

agreed.

We need to find out how to get some life out of our offense. Texas can’t kill themselves forever. I imagine they are going to come out with fire in the 3rd. Hopefully we do the same.

Probably true

Who will adjust better at half time?

Our D was great. No doubt about. Tackling was best all season as well. Gilbert got more rattled after nice start. Can they keep Gilbert rattled? Will the pass rush remain good?

by DCBruins on Sep 25, 2010 2:09 PM PDT reply actions

Can't keep being unbalanced if we want to win this

Offense has to get some movement or else the defense may gas again like KSU and Furd in the later stages. We have the ball to start the 2nd half. Put points on the board and keep the momentum.

RIP Coach Wooden (1910-2010).

by BigKahunaMan on Sep 25, 2010 2:09 PM PDT reply actions

Run run run the ball

by Maverick_Bruin on Sep 25, 2010 2:10 PM PDT up reply actions

Well...

The Defense has indeed been active with some good aggressive hits, flyin’ to the ball….GO D. But, UCLA can’t execute the forward pass anymore…I don’t know what it is…the different timing of the Revolver ???? ….

by PSYCH84 on Sep 25, 2010 2:10 PM PDT reply actions

Could it be

Dropping passes and the fact that Texas has the best defense that we will face?

by Josh Schlichter on Sep 25, 2010 2:11 PM PDT up reply actions

Bruins put the D back in defense again...and so does Texas...

i agree that turnovers might win the game…we are leading in take-aways right now so we are winning…i love the aggressive defense we show…although sometimes the Texas quarterback has no pressure…when we come at him he makes mistakes…

by BRUINCLASSOF72 on Sep 25, 2010 2:10 PM PDT reply actions

I have no idea.

I feel like I'm tripping on something

Running all over the #1 run defense?
Shutting up an entire stadium of Horns fans?
Forcing 5 turnovers?
I thought they could win, but I’d be lying if I said they would do it like this.

RIP Coach Wooden (1910-2010).

Forget sending the whole tape to recruits

Just show them the last 10-20 seconds where the only thing you can hear in Austin is “UC-LA!”

RIP Coach Wooden (1910-2010).

Guess what?

66 + 34 = 100
3 + 12 = 15

We just won the last two games in Austin, 100 – 15.
