Saturday Morning Football Open Thread
Yes everybody, college football is back.Thankfully, the Bruins have an early start time, but not quite early enough to provide the initial cure for our football fix. A Few games on TV right now (and many others on ESPN3) to hold us over until 12:30, including:
- Western Michigan @ Michigan State (ESPN2). The Spartans have taken an early 7-0 lead. no surprise there
- Louisiana-Lafayette @ Georgia (CSN-California for our NorCal readers). Not much to say here. Georgia has been held scoreless, 2 minutes into this one; good for L-L?
- Miami (Ohio) @ Florida (ESPN). The Gators have been a bit sloppy, with a pair of turnovers and not-yet impressive play allowing the Redhawks to take an early 3-0 lead in Gainesville.
- Illinois @ Mizzu (CSN). An actual contest between BCS-conference opponents in the early slot.
Here is today's CFB schedule, complete with notation of all of the games streamable on ESPN3. The UCLA/Kansas State thread will be posted at noon PT. Until then, consider this your open thread.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Florida is getting their act together
taking a 14-3 lead, 5 minutes into the 2nd qtr (despite only 14 yards of offense).
Michigan State and Penn State locked into (early) close battles with their lesser-regarded opponents (14-7 against Western Michigan, and 12-7 over Youngstown State, respectively).

In our occasional channel switches and tracking the stats
Florida looks like they are still really struggling

How's this for hell?
I’m at work (NFL Network) where we are usually blessed with every satellite feed imaginable. Today, we have none. I CAN’t WATCH COLLEGE FOOTBALL!
All is not lost, we do have TVs, so I can pull up our game, it’s just not the same cuz these little TVs don’t compare to watching the game on broadcast equipment.
The best thing you can do for your children is to love their mother. John Wooden
found a way to cheat it onto a good monitor.
phew!

definitely
spread was around 13 in favour of Mizzou – which seemed way too much for a rivalry game on the first day of the season

Leinart apparently cut today by Arizona.

and, I am also loving the fact that Brady Quinn looks to be on the same career trajectory

Can someone explain to me how Florida was a 39.5 point favorite?
Did anyone really bet Florida? When I saw that line earlier this week, it was absolutely baffling for a team replacing several important parts, most notably this guy named Tim Tebow who I heard was a little important to the Gators. I didn’t think Florida would be in this tight of a game, but 39.5 points?

Not really
but Miami wasn’t supposed to be good, and word out of Florida camp was that this QB was going to be throwing TDs left and right.

and separately
the only people beating Miami right now are Miami. Unbelievable indiscipline takes them from 4th and goal on the 1 to 4th and 16….

Didn't expect the line to be close
and 28 or so would have made sense, but 39.5 is just crazy IMO. In the betting pool I have with my friends, nobody took Florida at 39.5

it was a 'don't bet this game' for me
I didn’t think the average margin would be close to that, but you never know whether the game is going to completely unravel if Florida gets up 17-18 at the half.
I agree that it’s high. I just wasn’t so unreasonable that I was willing to bet it… I felt the 13 point spread for Mizzou-Illinois was more unjustified.

Some interesting news out of Georgia
as AJ Green was held out of the game while the alleged agent contact investigation continues. Besides the AJ Green being really good part, the recent rash of NCAA investigations is interesting, IMO.

But, but, the NCAA hates USC but envys them...
and that is the only reason why they took the unprecedented step of investigating a possible rules violation. The NCAA can’t hate, but envy that many more schools, can they?

Watching Florida today
Is giving me flashbacks of UCLA’s first game w/o Aikman. Meanwhile, UNC’s situation reminds me of UCLA going into tOSU w/o 8 starters suspended for parking gate in 99.
