BN Gameday: Kansas State Open Thread

UCLA Bruins at Kansas St. Wildcats, Sep 4, 2010 12:30 PM PDT

Hoping for big day from defense captains (3 and 10) and rest of their team-mates. Photo by Joe Murphy/Getty Images

Let's get it.

Last time these same Bruins went into a crazy football atmosphere out of conference things turned out just right. Lots of questions around our team which we have gone over again and again. At this point nothing left to do except hope number 3 leads the team to more inspiring moments.

If you still need to get caught up on all of our notes concerning this game from last few weeks, you can do so by checking out our full coverage here. If you are looking to track the game online you can also keep your tabs open to the official site and WWL.

So ready or not, here come the Bruins in 2010. Let's get this game thread started. Fire away.

GO BRUINS.

Jerseys ...

don’t you think last year’s jerseys look better? with the lighter blue?

by LA Bruin on Sep 4, 2010 12:02 PM PDT reply actions

I love this year's. I've been around a long time and this is closer to what the guys used to wear.

I think we’re all partial to the way things were when we became bruins.

Go Bruins!

I liked last year's away jersey much better

And today’s jerseys are exactly like the ones they wore when I went to school.

it’s a shame they changed them back.

by BamaBruin on Sep 4, 2010 1:05 PM PDT reply actions

hmmm

We look so one dimensional on offense. Wish we could do some quick outs or slants. Prince needs to calm down and get those throws under control. But he has much more zip on them this year. He’s going to be good. Let’s go bruins, get through this. Buckle down defense!

by westwood12003 on Sep 4, 2010 1:05 PM PDT via mobile reply actions

One dimensional?

We started pro set (would have had first downs) if not for two drops. We then switched to revolver … got a first down … and could have had a first down. Our playcalling is not the issue. We need to execute.

by Nestor on Sep 4, 2010 1:06 PM PDT up reply actions

your right

All my nerves are getting to me. Lets execute

by westwood12003 on Sep 4, 2010 1:11 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions

Yup

Missing open receivers, dropping passes, throwing into triple coverage and false start penalties are not on the playcalling. If we get up to speed we can definitely move the ball on these guys.

by britishbruin on Sep 4, 2010 1:15 PM PDT via mobile up reply actions

absolutely

Nope you guys are spot on. My bad. I guess my thoughts were more out of frustration then what the real issue is. Execution. Limit penalties and catch the ball. We can get down field and I know we will. Lets go bruins! Lets get some positive energy going.

by Class of 66 on Sep 4, 2010 1:21 PM PDT reply actions

too much like last year

Weak offense with lots of mistakes, while defense gives up too many yards, but causes a fumble (which offense cannot capitalize on). Prince looks tentative to me. Hopefully, just first game jitters on the road, but I fear all those injuries and inexperience are taking a toll. That would explain the poor execution.

So far

Knock on wood but both of our OL/DL are hanging in there. As Brock Huard said Bullough also throwing in wrinkles in second quarter.

by Nestor on Sep 4, 2010 1:51 PM PDT reply actions

+1

I feel like were just getting started. Again, knock on wood

This is pure punter porn

What an exhibition

Really, Embree on punt returns?

I guess no one else has sure hands but man would I like to see some of our speed back there

by LVBruin on Sep 4, 2010 1:52 PM PDT reply actions

Why?

Wasn’t he one of the more productive returners in recent memory?

by impaulv on Sep 4, 2010 1:54 PM PDT up reply actions

Yup

Its all about sure hands right now. While Carroll/Thigpen are faster they haven’t shown sure hands in practices (from what I have gathered).

by Nestor on Sep 4, 2010 1:53 PM PDT up reply actions

Just unfortunate

especially after watching Thigpen zoom down the field on the punt team earlier

by LVBruin on Sep 4, 2010 1:54 PM PDT up reply actions

nice defensive series now

how often have we blitzed today? Anyone counting? seems like pressure might work on Coffman.

by Vanman7475 on Sep 4, 2010 1:52 PM PDT reply actions

Ayers is Everywhere

what a great player. Our D line is starting to get great penetration too.

Question

Do you think Coleman’s auditory issues play any role in his PT? Just wondering…

by sausmaf on Sep 4, 2010 1:56 PM PDT up reply actions

Don't know

but one of the saddest moments of last year to me was when the ball was live on the field and he could not hear his team mates yelling to jump on it. We lost the ball and they scored.

YES!!

That’s the deal – good pressure and reaction.

by Vanman7475 on Sep 4, 2010 2:01 PM PDT reply actions

Weird play-calling

On both sides: Bruins could have run out the half and didn’t, then Coffman didn’t have the brains to throw the ball away. The D has really taken over, and the O-line is looking good, too.

Not so bad, D looks good, offense for the most part gave KP plenty of time. 2 many dropped balls. Field goal B4 halftime!?!?

by Vanman7475 on Sep 4, 2010 2:06 PM PDT reply actions

really?

i saw a brown ball hit the green turf below the receiver’s hands. you can’t tell me the call wouldn’t go the other way if UCLA picked it.

All In All

Not a bad 1st half. Gave up some 3rd down conversions early on that pissed me off but as the 1st half wore on, our “D” has asserted themselves.

Los Angeles Rams and the UCLA Bruins!!!!!

by Minnesota Bruinfan on Sep 4, 2010 2:09 PM PDT reply actions

our D has a good scheme right now

but we need to be wary of KSU adjustments. they will try m ore misdirection and throwing deep.
