Gary Franklin To Baylor
Considering our extreme lack of depth at the point guard position, I would have thought that CBH would have made a strong run at Gary Franklin, who recently transferred from Cal to Baylor. At UCLA, he would have been able to join his high school teammates, the Wear twins and TL. I'm concerned with our inability to sign a quality PG and possibly passing up on Franklin.
Does anyone have any information on why we either were not interested in Franklin or he was not interested in UCLA?
It is pretty depressing to see that half of the Mountain West Conference is better that us. Something is terribly wrong at UCLA and I just don't see it getting any better.

My assumption
is that Cal would not let him transfer to another Pac-12 school.

also he would lose a year of eligibility if he stayed in the same conference
from what I understand. A shame but maybe another transfer will pop up somewhere around the country.
Not true, exactly.
Going out of the Pac he sits an academic year, but within the NCAA’s five year limit of beginning and ending eligibility would have the ability to play a total of four basketball seasons – not losing any athletic eligibility. By the Pac rules, an inter-league transfer also loses a year of athletic eligibility.
So, to Baylor he restarts next January in the middle of his freshman basketball year (and gets to play alongside Bobo!) If he came here, he’d restart next January in the middle of his sophomore basketball year.
Roses are red, violets are blue...f*** $C.
Trust me when I say this
You want no part of Franklin. If he couldn’t handle Monty’s style, you would have seen the same problems with Howland.

Ditto
Franklin may be a nice kid and all, but from all appearances it seems that he’s got some very bad ghosts whispering in his ear telling him how great he is. He would have been the exact wrong fit for Howland and your team.
Well, you're not hardcore unless you live hardcore.
Actually
He’d fit in perfectly with our team.
Not that that’s a good thing.

LOL!
Also, is he a PG or more of a 2 guard? With Norman Powell coming, and Lamb already here, and Lee going nowhere, he might not see much playing time anyway.
But hey, what do I know. Iām just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
Depends on who you ask
No, really. According to yesterday’s SF Chronicle, Franklin and Monty could not even agree on whether Gary played point guard or shooting guard while at Mater Dei.
