Sheller gets 6th year!
Sean Sheller has been granted an additional season of competition by the NCAA and will be a senior in 2011.
Update (BN): Congrats to Sean. This is great news for him and the team as it will add depth and experience. Sheller might move to LG instead of staying at LT, as Jeff Baca could be taking that spot back next year.

Our line next year
Sean Sheller, Baca, Maiava, Hasiak/Ward, Harris? with Yandall/Griffiths/Bradford providing depth? That isn’t great but not horrible either. I’d say overall it is a more athletic bunch if nothing else.
Starters sound right, Ward would be my guess
Downey and Capella should provide solid depth as well. Glad to see Sean back!
AWESOME!

Oops
somehow this posted before I was done! We talked to Sean at the Football Banquet and he was just SO excited at the potential of having another year. I am so glad he will be in a Bruin uniform for another season!

Slightly OT, but I'm not sure where else to ask
I know nobody wants to hear this, but with Norm Chow now off to Utah (which is obviously joining the Pac12) and CRN’s job in jeopardy depending on this next season, what are the realistic chances that Xavier Sua Filo actually returns to UCLA? The two coaches most responsible for him here may not be at UCLA when XSF finally returns from his mission. I don’t like the thought of not getting him back, as he was IMO the best and most promissing O-lineman that we’ve had this decade. But it’s a thought that’s been creeping in the back of my mind.
Every time we talk about OL
I think about XSF and worry about him coming back to UCLA. He loved it here and we treated him very well. Norm going to Utah does not help.
XSF
will almost assuredly be back as a Bruin! … unless he wants to sit out a year (after being on a mission for two) AND pay his own way while he sits out that year.
Can’t wait to see him back at UCLA!!!

His comments
lead me to believe it will be an issue. He stated that if all the coaches were still here, he would return. I don’t know if there’s enough of a connection between Rick and him to bring him back, but what’s another year if he transfers? His is a position where experience and age (and corresponding size) is valued.

Happy for Sean and Happy for Us on Two Fronts
We will be a better team with him AND
It’s great that he wants to come back. That makes a statement about this team and at least one player’s confidence in the staff and direction of the program.
sjh
Sheller’s been getting a bunch of penalties for holding toward the latter half of the season. Glad he’s staying, but i wonder how much of a value-add he’ll be if he’s still making these undisciplined mistakes

Sooo
I was looking at the roster and, we finally have some good size for our lineman. I’m liking that most of our guys are 6’2 and up and are around the 300lb mark. I’m relatively optimistic that with Palcic coaching these guys, we may see some flashes of good blocking for the pass and run.
Line wins games
Getting Sheller back for another year is awesome. Great news
