highly surprising assessment
both for our prospects for next year, and the likelihood of TH turning pro.
yeah
he’s quite adamant about TH not turning pro. While I agree that it wouldn’t be the smartest decision, I don’t know if I’d call him “stupid” if he left. Other things go into that decision besides how NBA-ready a player is

preseason top 5?
i so hope he’s right. but i’m thinking he took some stupid pills. even with an nba lockout and TH coming back… do we have depth at point guard?!?!
"Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are." --John Wooden
Top 5 may be a preseason reach, but our frontcourt will be dominant next year if it remains intact. Smith, Nelson, Stover, Lane and Honeycutt PLUS the Wear twins. Wow.

I haven't seen the Wear twins play in a game
are they guaranteed to be good? Their numbers weren’t anything stellar at UNC
well he never said every preseason after that, just the next one
and even that I think is being a little generous/delusional, we still don’t have good defense and our offensive outputs are inconsistent
not that this is a direct comparison
but Bob Knight used to win a whole lot of games without a true point. A dominant front court can be enough.

Stanford with the Lopez teams
They had a very good team in 2008 with solid guard play. Jones may never be an elite PG, but I don’t think he’ll be a liability against most teams. Stanford ended up getting blown out in the Sweet Sixteen by Texas and DJ Augustin, but it’s somewhat unlucky to face such a good PG that early in the tournament. It also looks like Robin Lopez and Lawrence Hill played limited minutes in the game, and Texas went on a 20-3 run in the 2nd half that started when Brook Lopez wasn’t in the game. UCLA will probably have more frountcourt depth than Stanford had (though perhaps not as much quality at the top) and hopefully wouldn’t be as vulnerable.

Has anybody ever been ranked Pre Season Top 5 without a deep tourney run?
Right there the logic is flawed.
However, the preseason ranking are usually very flawed anyway. But, I still think we have to earn a ranking like that.
The best thing you can do for your children is to love their mother. John Wooden
Kentucky lost in the NIT Quarters in March 2009
And started the 2009-2010 season in the top 5 in both polls…so yes. Of course those were unique circumstances.
add John Wall to our returning players, Powell and the Wears
and I’ll definitely buy top-5…
Nostradamus step aside PLEASE!
its BARELY january, and seth davis isnt looking ahead to the pac10 season, the pac10 tournament, the ACTUAL tournamets (ncaa and NIT). Oh wait, forgot about who leaves the program, who enters, etc
Lets skip all that….ucla should be top 5 next year?
Im all for optimism but this is a little premature right, must be a slow day at the WWL
his point in the whole article
is discussing which teams are underrated and overrated. He thinks the Pac-10 is generally underrated, that Washington is legit and that UCLA is a better team than they have shown so far.
