I'm giving CTSS the day off on Monday

Most of you know by now that I am highly critical of CTSS the coach, and think he should be terminated immedediately. It's been about month since the debacle in Palo Alto (or at least it seems that way), and there have been lots of opinions expressed. Some are good and valid and worthy of consideration (i.e., mine and those that are the same as mine) and some way, way off base. The points have been made, and then re-made, etc. That said, I was struck by the look of hopelessness on CTSS's face in the picture in the thread "The morning after, Part 5: Stanford." Coach Neuheisel (not CTSS for the balance of this paragraph) is a great Bruin, who gave us all some great memories. I am proud to call him a Bruin brother, and I'm confident that he would be a great guy to hang out with. His face in that picture, however, makes me feel sad for him. I am going to give Coach Neuheisel a pass on Monday. I'm not going to add to the utter dejection shown in that picture. I won't be critical of anyone else if you want want to keep the pressure on, but I'm not going to join you. My feelings haven't changed, but I'm going to keep them to myself for at least a day. (

Very noble of you.

Unfortunately, I already replied to RogerT for today.

Agreed

He looks like a beaten man. No one wants to fail in a job, and I think that he probably feels that even more so because it’s our school.

Assuming that things don’t radically improve for the rest of the season, the fans will continue to want him gone. That must be really hard for him to deal with.

CRN

Guerrerror should have ended the misery last year, I had hope but not much anymore. Anyway wish him and the team the best for the year, hopefully we don’t screw the pooch on the next hire.

I feel you Fox

That was a demoralizing image of Neuheisel. Tough to watch.

Sad to see...

…him crash and burn like he is. I see Coach Neu and I think of the new hires at my job before ish hit the fan. Those guys who came in jawing about their greatness and what they would do, only to see them go down. They couldn’t get it done when it mattered most. I understand he came in guns blazing because he wanted to get the fan base behind him, but he ultimately brought this upon himself because he couldn’t deliver when people wanted results. I bet your right Fox, in that Coach Neuheisel is a great guy, so it makes it sad to see him go down like this.

hmmm....

I understand that watching someone’s career death spiral is sad. And as a human being, I feel for him. I do. However, there comes a time when you just have to acknowledge that you are simply a failure at certain things. No one likes to do it because it is hard, very hard, to admit to something like that, especially when that ‘something’ has defined such a great part of your life. And in response, you’ll see people grasp around for reasons to explain it (i.e. excuses) so they don’t have to face that painful fact. I get it. I understand.

But the fact of the matter is Neuheisel the coach is: (i) exactly that, an unmitigated failure; and, (ii) not self-reflecting and realizing that HE is the problem…..not o-line size, not execution, not the administration, not asst coaches, not the quality of the opponents, not injuries. He has the worst head coaching record in UCLA history, save for the early years and a couple of one season type guys. His teams have under-performed and shown no development whatsoever. There have been numerous suspensions for things like smoking weed (3rd time offense = 1st suspension). He has lost embarrassingly FAR more than won convincingly. In short, he is doing a disservice to the talented young men whose parents trusted him to develop.

Yet, he continues to take home a pretty nice paycheck, from a school he says he loves, despite putting out a horribly substandard product. So, until he resigns of his own volition, I will pity him….but continue to mercilessly call for his ouster. If he did resign on his own, and forego any payout, I would give all due respect.

Well, it's now Tuesday. I still feel deep sadness for what has happened to CTSS.

But I endorse what Scot says. He’s got to go. He’s a smart guy, so he should realize that. By overstaying his welcome, he’s diminishing himself in my estimation.
