Saturday Afternoon Pregame Open Thread
We have another College Football Saturday on our hands today. While the Bruins will be taking the Rose Bowl field against Cal in a few hours, there are some other games going on today that could be worth keeping an eye on - or as backup in the event that the Dan Guerrero/Neuheisel follies come back for a second act after last week's performance. WIth some of the east coast and midwest early games are wrapping up, here are the day's Pac-12 games, as well as some of the other key-and/or televised games coming up this afternoon.
12:30pm PDT:
- Washington State @ Oregon (12:00pm, Comcast/Fox Sports)
- Oklahoma @ Kansas State (ESPN/ABC)
- Baylor @ Oklahoma State (ABC)
- Florida v. Georgia (aka The World's largest outdoor cocktail party, CBS)
- Navy @ Notre Dame (NBC)
Oklahoma/KState should be a good one, at least. While the Bruins kick off at 4pm PDT (Comcast Sports/Fox etc on the west coast), there is a solid evening lineup surrounding our game.
The Pac-12 late games- Colorado @ ASU (3:30pm)
- Oregon State @ Utah (4pm)
- Stanford @ Southern Cal (5pm, ABC)
- Arizona @ Washington (7:30pm, Comcast/Fox Sports)
Stanford/Southern Cal is the marquee game of the evening, while in the nightcap, the Wildcats make their first road trip since dropping Stoops and delivering the final blow to the Bruin coaching regime. The national late games include the following:
- Kansas @ Texas (4pm)
- Iowa State @ Texas Tech (4pm, Comcast/Fox Sports)
- South Carolina @ Tennessee (4:15pm, ESPN2)
- Wisconsin @ Ohio State (5pm, ESPN)
- Clemson @ Georgia Tech (5pm)
This is your open thread for the mid-afternoon action. We will have our usual game thread for the Bruins coming up before kickoff.
Go Bruins!

Gus Johnson calling a Gus Johnson-like game in College Station
Mizzu/Texas A&M going into overtime, following a late A&M fumble followed by a 46-yard missed FG at the gun by Mizzu. Game is on FX.

GO MIZZOU!
(brother is a student, there my team besides ucla)
Virginia Tech/Duke a bit closer than I would have expected
Tech up by only 4 points, but driving late in the 4th quarter in Durham.

Vandy
Drives from their 10 to try to kick a 27 yards game trying FG in the last 10 seconds. And the kicker pushes it right. #10 Arkansas wins.
Vandy played a great game. UCLA couldn’t hang with Arkansas right now.
No player should have a "hard hat" on their helmet at the game today.
Nobody earned one.
Incidentally, they should have done bear claw scratch marks instead. Kinda like the Georgia Bulldogs bones, which are less instrusive than the bigger helmet stickers.
Go Dawgs.
nevermind the hard hats
I would consider removing the UCLA script. Let the team earn that back.

Every game this year has been on Prime Ticket . . . because no one nationally will watch us!

Aah ... gotcha
May be it will be on your local Fox Sports cable channel then. No luck for us here in DC. I will have to look for an online feed.
can't imagine a hotel in NorCal not carrying CSN Bay Area
I’ll be watching on CSNBA too
this is one of two games left I actually care about winning.
hotel TV stations are all the same
ESPN/ESPN2 is it for sports. The hotel bar – if there is one – would probably have it, though.

Joel Meyers.
I know a lot of people here are not a fan but I remember when he did UCLA radio in 87 listening to road games as a green frehsman . . . Aikman to Flipper Anderson . . . touchdown! Gaston Green for a tuchdown. Aikman to Mel farr Jr. . . . touchdown. Aikamn to Arbuckle . . .
That team was loaded.
If we get blown out or even lose to Cal...
I don’t see how CRN can still be employed come Monday. I think he must win this week to hold on (although he may get a pass next week against ASU where we don’t have a chance.)

Wazzu pick 6.
How long has it been since UCLA had one. I’ve lost count (although the no defensive points streak was broken last game with that safety in garbage time. Least enthusiastic woo hoo ever . . .
BTW, Ducks by only 5 near the end of the first half.
You are correct.
But I had a running “how many quarters has it been since UCLA had a defensive or special teams score” (not including field goals or extra points) and was up to around 80 or so when we got the safety.
That streak is broken. But the defensive or special teams TD streak remains.

my favorite trivia from the Neuheisel era
name the one person in the Neuheisel era who has thrown more TDs than INTs
Notre Dame is rolling over Navy 28 - 7
but the mids never roll over. There’s a lesson for teams that shall remain unnamed.
My two favorite teams are UCLA and whoever is playing $C.
Getting ready to hang the UCLA flag.
Any way to put a bag over it?
Seriously though . . . gotta support the kids.
Agreed
My parents are out there tailgating, they always go no matter how bad it might be – have to support the team. And I am watching it snow in DC while it is 85 and gorgeous in LA!
Hahahaha...check this sign from Gameday

Bunch of blowouts this p.m.
Only good game is the World’s Largest Cocktail Party … Uh, the Georgia Florida game. Can’t say thay anymore because it might make college kids drink.

Penn State and Illinois game is ugly
but boy does college FB do a great job of distracting me from grad school apps.
start applying to schools with powerhouse football programs
as insurance against another bad HC hire
what's with West Virginia these days?
too busy celebrating the impending move to the Big XII to play football? Losing to Syracuse last week, and losing to Rutgers right now.

Question for anyone who watched ESPN Gameday today
I don’t watch the show any more because well one doesn’t get to learn anything about football from that show.
I heard that they took time out to mock UCLA though. Does anyone know precisely what they said … if better …. does anyone have video of it?
If you have video of it and want to share …. feel free to email it to bruinsnation(at)gmail(dot)com. Thanks.
Someone posted that Corso picked us.
Which is laughable since he is sucha clown.

Cant' watch Dr. Lou either. Sounds like he got marbles in his mouth.
That impersonator from some southern radio show that someone poster here last season was pretty jilarious though . . .

Apparently the other crew had some special snarks for us
I totally understand that. We are the laughing stock off college football. However, would love to see transcript or video of exactly what they said.
another unbeaten goes down
leaving
LSU/Alabama who play next week
Stanford
Boise St
Oklahoma St
Clemson
(and Houston)
Who would people like to see win out of the above? Is it wrong to be rooting for one of our rivals in Stanford? I really respect them for how they’ve turned things around in the past few years.
I need Houston to win out and get a BCS invitation.
I stupidly (drunkenly) bet 2 FSU fans that they’d win out and be a BCS team after they beat us.

I am rooting for Stanford all the way
Have a number of friends who went to Stanford and they all root for UCLA. So I always return the favor.
Totally agree
Too bad the Niners are too good to partake in the Suck for Luck campaign. Luck with the 49ers would have been glorious. Oh well.
Me too.
It is a pleasure to watch them play.

The Black Mamba strikes...
DeAnthony Thomas had 11 touches in the Ducks’ game with Wazzu, nearly 300 yards and 2 TDs … and he’s actually 3rd string.
Yes, I believe so
Unless MSU made a miraculous comeback. Nebbie was up 24-3 before I checked out of that game.
