I went to UCLA undergrad and live in Northern California so when UCLA football is in town I try to see the game.
Three of my friends and I were in section 131, row G, seats 20-23. We were around the 20 yard line. We watched with excitement when UCLA performed its initial set of downs. All the way down the field. Then get stopped. It was a good performance. Stanford just stopped them. UCLA will at some point get their act in gear it is just a matter of time. That's not the point of this communication.
This UCLA ‘Fan' was right behind us foaming at the mouth. Screaming so hard he was spitting all over us. His glasses soon bounced down on the ground. I turned to tell him he lost his glasses, but he had drunk and drug glazed eyes. Continued yelling. You know the type.
Here are some quotes. "I should shoot you Neuheisel." "If I had a sniper rifle I would shoot you now" "F*** you UCLA", "F***." "F***." It went on and on. We told him there were children around. He said, "What children?" Don't talk to me." This behavior was reported to the ushers who said security was standing by. What does one do with an insensitive loud drunk idiot?
This ‘Fan' pretty much cursed the whole game. People around us were irate. Security was almost called several times. He knew the names of all the players. He was obviously well informed on football. All the UCLA players on the team personally let this ‘Fan' down. All the players should have played better.
What he didn't know was he lost his glasses. He didn't care that he ruined the game for all the people around him. His blue sweatshirt that he and his girlfriend wore hid the fact that they really are the worst type of ‘Fan'. Willing to wreck others enjoyment. People with this fantasy that those on the field can hear exactly what they say and actually care. People that are so out of touch with reality, they scream at the top of their lungs, and think their hatred helps the team.
These really aren't ‘Fans' in the usual sense. They go for their hatred of the Coach and team, because the ‘Fan' feels let down. The ‘Fan' probably had a good idea UCLA would lose the game, and didn't go to support UCLA, but to tear them down and vent hatred. The infantile psyche so wrapped up in a team, for some misguided reason, I don't understand.
Why would any one in their right mind spend money just to yell insults at their own team, a team that can't hear them, but those unfortunate enough to be seated by the 'Fan' can.
I feel sorry for UCLA if this is an example of their fan base. Next time I will watch the game from home.
Thanks for ruining the game for so many people.
Go Bruins.
