BERKELEY CA - NOVEMBER 13: Josh Huff #4 of the Oregon Ducks is hit by Darian Hagan #26 of the California Golden Bears at California Memorial Stadium on November 13 2010 in Berkeley California. (Photo by Ezra Shaw/Getty Images)

Well, we had another mediocre week here on Bruins Nation, so I'm going to switch things up here a bit.  Before I get to that, here are the updated standings:

freesia39: 46-32-2 (9-7)

AHMB: 44-34-2 (7-9)

Tydides: 42-36-2 (8-8)

Bellerophon:  41-37-2 (9-7)

Ajax:  40-38-2 (8-8)

Ryan R.: 40-38-2 (4-12)

Odysseus:  38-40-2 (9-7)

gbruin:  38-40-2 (8-8)

Patroclus: 38-40-2 (7-9)

Nestor: 36-42-2 (6-10)

Tasser10: 26-36-2 (6-10)

Achilles:  10-6

Our picks for this week are after the jump.

Star-divide

Our picks were pretty similar this week, so rather than create a table, I'll just give my thoughts for each game and announce the picks.

Thursday:

Cal @ Oregon (-20.5):  Eugene will be rocking tonight, and I expect the Ducks to feed off the energy and win big.  Everyone picked Oregon except Bellerophon.

Friday:

Boise St. (-19.5) @ Fresno St.:  I expect Fresno St. to put up a strong fight, but Boise St. should win the game.  Myself, Ajax, and gbruin are picking Fresno St.

Saturday:

Oklahoma (-10.5) v. Texas:  The Red River Shootout looks to be a good one, despite the fact that Oklahoma is heavily favored.  Nestor and Odysseus are the only ones picking Texas.

Iowa @ Penn St. (-2):  Is there a team more up and down than Penn St.?  I think they'll show up this week and play well enough to cover the spread.  Everyone else on BN agrees.

Minnesota @ Purdue (-10):  Minnesota has been in a downward spiral, and I don't expect them to recover this week.  I think Purdue will cover.  Once again, everyone on BN agrees.

Georgia (-2) @ Tennessee: Georgia has rebounded nicely from their rough start.  They travel to Knoxville as 2 point favorites, and I think they'll cover.  Bellerophon and freesia39 agree with me.

Miami @ Virginia Tech (-6):  A couple of weeks ago, this looked like a really good game.  I think the Hokies will bounce back after getting whipped by Clemson.  Everyone agrees.

Michigan (-6) @ Northwestern:  Northwestern lost in crazy fashion last week, and as a reward they get to host a surging Wolverine squad.  I like Michigan to cover big.  Ryan R. and Tasser10 are the only ones picking Northwestern.

Missouri (-2.5) @ Kansas St.:  Kansas St. hosts the Tigers after an emotional upset of Baylor.  I think the Wildcats will keep it rolling and win this week; gbruin, Bellerophon, Nestor, and Tydides agree.

Ohio St. @ Nebraska (-10):  Welcome to the Big 10, Nebraska- you get Wisconsin and Ohio St. right off the bat.  I'm not a fan of the stories coming out Lincoln, but then again, the stories coming out of Columbus haven't been good for a while.  When in doubt, go with the home team.  I'll take Nebraska to cover.  Odysseus, Ajax, Tydides, and Bellerophon are picking the Buckeyes.

Florida @ LSU (-12):  LSU has covered every week, and I don't think the streak will end against a battered Gator team.  Odysseus, Ajax, and gbruin are going with the Gators.

TCU (-6) @ San Diego St.:  TCU received some big news about a Big 12 invite today, and I think the good news will continue this week with a solid win over San Diego St.  Ajax and Tydides are picking the Aztecs at home.

Arizona St. (-3) @ Utah:  The Sun Devils "only" beat Oregon St. by 15, and it seems like they lost quite a bit of momentum.  I think they'll bounce back big against the Utes.  Odysseus is the only one picking Utah.

Colorado @ Stanford (-29):  The Cardinal go from 22.5 point favorites to 29 point favorites in back-to-back weeks.  Pac-12 football!  I think they'll cover.  Patroclus, Ajax, Tasser10, and Bellerophon are picking the Buffaloes.

Arizona (-1.5) @ Oregon St.:  Arizona is another Pac-12 team on a downturn.  I think a trip to Corvallis was just what the doctor ordered.  Ajax and Nestor are picking the Beavers.

Washington St. @ UCLA (-5.5):  I like UCLA to get a solid win this week against a program on the rise.  Odysseus and Tasser10 are picking the Cougars.

Well, there are our picks for the week.  Fire away with your own picks.  This will also be our Thursday night game thread, so feel free to discuss the Cal-Oregon game here.

Don’t hijack this one. And before commenting read the blog carefully to see where things are being discussed. Thanks.

Craig James is unbearable.

He just said that Oregon lost their top tacklers, and haven’t identified who their tacklers are going to be. That has to be the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard an announcer say.

James and Palmer get off sniffing eachother’s jock. (I stole that from Stewart Mandel, but it’s spot on)

Yep

I remember that signing that. Owa committed to us right after he picked the Duckies.

OT

Brett Favre must have one hell of a PR team. Either that or wrangler shoppers don’t care that he sexts pictures of his co$k to female employees.

Cal is exactly where it should be

Not sure they can get much better than this. Tedford is the all-time winningest coach at Cal.

But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.

by tasser10 on Oct 7, 2011 9:37 AM PDT up reply actions

Tedford will get at least one year at Memorial...

He’s responsible for the renovation and even if he goes .500, he’ll get one year to turn it around. As for Cal being “exactly where it should be”, I’m not sure where one gets that idea. I think most schools are where they should be as determined by the importance that their athletic department puts on football. If that’s the case, Cal’s AD Sandy Barbour trumps UCLA’s Dan Guerrero in terms of vision and execution. After all, after a century of terrible facilities, Cal will now have one of the best facilities in the conference. And while Tedford may have plateaued, the facts are still that in ten years, he’s only one losing season.
