BN Gameday: Washington State Pre-Game Thread
We have a later kickoff against the Cougars tonight at 7:30 pm PST. Our game thread is going up around 7:15 pm PST. So we still have a huge chunk of Saturday (more than just 5 hrs) to take in lots of football action while getting ready for the Bruins.
Some of the game we are going to pay attention will include Michigan's visit to Northwestern (4:00 pm PST Big Ten Network), Georgia's visit to Tennessee (4:00 pm PST, ESPN2 or ESPN3) and the Buckeyes taking on the Nebraska Cornhuskers (5:00 pm PST, ABC). The Pac-12 game of note around this time will be Colorado's visit to Stanford (YIKES) (Versus).
If you haven't had a chance, take a look at our BN pick'em thread here. You can also check out our Washington State previews here and here.
So if you are watching other games today, share your quick takes, observations or pre-game nervous musings, here is our open thread. Have fun.
GO BRUINS.

Thank God we don’t have to play Stanford twice.. I think they will sneak into the National Championship this year.

Do you know ...
Stanford extended its nation-best 12 game winning streak after beating the Bruins last weekend. The Cardinal
has won each of its four games this year by at least 26 points.
Beat the Cougar's
Looking forward to the Michigan vs Northwestern game.. could be interesting or a blowout. Baylor’s QB seems to be a class act and his numbers continue to impress.

Here's a note someone posted...
Just how bad are the Arizona Wildcats? They have now fallen to 115th nationally at 503.6 yards allowed per game. In its four-game slide, the Wildcats have allowed 564.75 yards per game. To make matters worse, they
sit at 118 in opponent points allowed per game at 44.5. In case you were wondering, there are only 120 teams. No bueno.
Wow, it's OSU 27, Arizona 6
You know OSU comes alive the second half of the season…
I called it in my power poll
If only I did as well in the pick’em game…
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
I think we are playing the Cougs tonight? Must win game for CRN and the team!

geez
those snowy mountains in Salt Lake look amazing! The camera panned over to them right before the start of the 2nd half of the ASU/Utah game.
How do you like that
Attendance at the Coliseum for last Saturday’s game between U$C and Arizona was 63,707, the smallest turnout for a U$C home game since 2002. So far this season, the four-game average for the Trojans is 67,919; about 20,000 less from the 2007 season, which the Los Angeles Daily News estimated translates into $1.2 million in decreased revenue per game in ticket sales alone.
throw the dodgers in there...
and you have a serious decline in sporting event attendance in los Angeles. Except probably the lakers.

in a lot of cities.
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
well considering there is no NBA season
you might as well throw that in there with a lack of attendance in LA
Go Bruins
that point regarding the drop in attendance and corresponding revenue
needs to be keeping DG up at night. Will be interesting to see the crowd at the Rose Bowl tonight, but given the SJSU and Texas games, I would not be surprised to see a 10k drop in our attendance, not to mention what we might be drawing with a team playing well on the field.

Utah, down by 3, just converted a fake punt from its own 28.
Who woulda never ever never ever never ever done that?
Whillingham must not think that punting it winning.
Fox Sports has it...
got it on Fox Sports South here in Alabama
My two favorite teams are UCLA and whoever is playing $C.
They are betting that a win by the Sundevils
will almost certainly lock its position in the first-ever Pac-12 Conference Championship as the representative from the South (due to the mathematical absence of USC and lack of power rounding out the rest of the division).
yep, a win by ASU puts them 3 games ahead of Utah (plus tiebreaker)
and leaves us as the only other team with any shot at coming out of the South. So yes, ASU clinches their title game spot with a win.

Arizona game
As I said it is a must win for UCLA. There will be no excuses for losing in Tuscon this year.
Man...
All you have to do against that team is score first. The offense is tired of trying to bail out the defense. I’m sensing some giving up going on…
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
Not really
Doubt they can do any better. But they have completely collapsed. They have won 1 game (against us … lol) since they started last season 7-1.
Very few teams
could survive that early slate of theirs. They need to win this game to set up the second half of the season. Fail.
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
the good thing for Stoops is that he next 5 games are winnable
plus they end the season against Louisana-Lafayette.
I forgot about their early game with Oklahoma State. Whoever created the schedule must hate the Wildcats… Stools may be able to survive, but likely needs to finish the regular season 6-1 to do it.
formerly bruinhoo
don't know, but Zona has completely collapsed
I think all they have is a win over Northern Arizona since the end of last October. Considering he was well on the hotseat before the 7-1 start last year, I can’t see how he survives.

Prediction
LSU/Bama winner, Oklahoma, and Stanford finish undefeated. Stanford to the Rose Bowl.
I think Wisconsin finishes 11-1
They always lose one they shouldn’t.
Not with this QB
I think they are solid. And I think they’ll be playing Stanford in the Rose Bowl, undefeated. Sea of Red!
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
Stanford
will likely lose to Oregon.
But hey, what do I know. I’m just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
I would put my money on Stanford
Especially if LaMichael James isn’t 100% for the Oregon-Stanford game
Here are some prediction for the Rose Bowl this week:
ESPN.com & SI.com – Wisconsin vs. Oregon
CBSSportsline.com – Wisconsin vs. Stanford
Scout.com – Wisconsin vs. Stanford
Sporting News – Michigan vs. Stanford
Rose Bowl people – Nebraska vs. Arizona State
Is Sporting News saying Mich wins the Big 10
Or that Wisconsin goes to the championship game?
Right, but for Michigan to be in the Rose Bowl
Means Michigan wins the Big 12, or Wisconsin does and gets promoted to the championship game
Wisconsin to the BCS, Michigan to the Rose Bowl as replacement
But the decision is by the Tournament of Roses based on the picking order.
That'd be cool
But I think LSU and Alabama are just far above everyone else this year
I'm saying Bama-Oklahoma...
though the LSU game will be telling.
My two favorite teams are UCLA and whoever is playing $C.
Penn State vs. Iowa
Man that’s boring. Crappy offenses.

That was my 5th year.
Remember the game. At least we wom.
We won another slugfest against Ilinois about 7 or 8 years ago. 2003, maybe. The game was in Illinois with a 9 a.m. P.S.T. start.
We played at the Rose Bowl in 2003
So I think that was ’02?
Can't remember. Maybe 02 . . .
I was in CA on vacation and saw the game at a bar in Newport over breakfast. Maybe went to the Colorado v. UCLA game a week later at the Rose Bowl.
OK. Got my wires crossed.
BTW, www.CFBDatawarehouse.com is the greatest web site ever.
The other 6-3 slugfest was @ the Rose Bowl, 2003, CTS’s first win after the debacle in Boulder, CO.
The 9 a.m. P.S.T. game was the following year. 35-17 Bruins at Champaign.
Both games were the second games of the season and both followed season opening losses that I attended (@ CU in 03 and OK State at the RB in 04).
Sorry for the confusion.
A friend of mine at Illinois was convinced that Verduzco would one day win the Heisman.
That didn’t quite happen.

It was against Stanford, and they had the bottle and can ban. Good thing we walked right in with a box of wine. The ticket taker laughed hard.
We were well lit by the 3rd quarter, but we still beat Elways Trees.
My two favorite teams are UCLA and whoever is playing $C.
The first UCLA game I watched intently ...
Was a total beatdown by the Bruins of a top-5 Nebraska team at the Rose Bowl. Troy Aikman was our QB.
My high school lost a game 2-0 once when I was there
That was, ahem, “fun”
maybe its because im deprived of good defense

maybe, but the Bruins have been brutal for quite some time
The high water mark of the last four years was that screen pass that Craft completed on the third down in the 2nd half of Tenn game at Rose Bowl. Just one play, gutsy call, well executed.

Florida scored and converted 2pts.

BTW, everybody is melting down here in Florida.
FSU fans had (unrealistic) national Championship aspirations 3 weeks ago. Now, after 3 losses to consecutively worse team OU, Clemson and now (ugh) Wake Forest, they are gripping.
The Gators have QB issues and are getting pasted by perhaps the best team in the country, LSU, after getting pasted by perhaps the best team in the countty, Bama, last week.
Miami
in a tight one against Va Tech. Golden seems pretty good…

UCLA Tickets
Hi all (and not sure if this is ok to post here) but I have tickets available for tonights game – Section 2H Row 12 Seats 5-8. Our 4 month old is putting a small crunch in our tailgating / season this year but we are making sure he watches the games on TV!
If anyone wants the tickets I’m happy to let all 4 go for $60. Email me at limaxfunfe@gmail.com and I’ll get the tickets emailed to you before the game!
Funny thing is, that was a very conservative call
2nd and goal from the 30 and the run the ball just to get into FG range. Had they just had an average result, fans would complain about the playcalling
But great execution and speed suddenly makes the call look great.

I will say this for ASU
They have an opportunistic defense and they capitalize on TOs

can somebody explain to me the hype (once?) around Jacory Harris?
I never got it. Every time i flipped to a miami game he had already thrown 2 picks.
He was good a few years ago.
They thought he’d get better. He didn’t. The coaching changes can’t help either.
VT Miami=Great game.
Didn’t see the U getting up for this one on the road.
VT with the ball and plenty of time for a game winning drive . . .
Hey Guys
Got on here a little late. Watched Iowa drop a hard-fought one to host Penn State a bit ago. Kind of predictable how that one went.

Threading my way from the top, I saw a lot of "my first Bruin game."
My first game was in 1960 at the Crapaseum, against Air Force, which featured an 80 yard (maybe longer) run by our svelte tailback, Billy Kilmer. (Many years later, I sat across the aisle from him on a flight and mentioned that run, and his response was “Jesus Christ.” That’s it. Nothing else.) Those were the single wing days, and there was really nothing cooler than watching the Bruins serpentine out of the huddle.

My First Bruin Game
September 1974 in Iowa City when our guys came to my neck of the woods to play Iowa. UCLA had just come off a 13-13 tie the week before with Tennessee and were huge favorites in this game. I was a brave 14 year-old in a sea of Hawkeye fans rooting for my Bruins (don’t think my parents EVER understood how I came to love UCLA). Iowa was emotionally-charged as this was Bob Commings first game at home as new Iowa head coach and shut down our vaunted offense. John Sciarra had a horrible day and the Hawkeyes sprang the upset of the day knocking us off 21-10.
