BN Gameday: Colorado Pre-Game Thread
Here is the bad news. We just have two more regular season of college football Saturdays left. :-( But here is the potentially good news. We are that much closer to openly discussing the candidates for the next football coach at UCLA (well that'd better be the case). We will have our usual open thread for the Bruins game coming up at 4:15 PDT. Until then, here is an open thread to get everybody through the early afternoon games, as well as chat about some of the later games.
Couple of early games of BN interest - Minnesota @ Northwestern and Nebraska @ Michigan - are wrapping up right now. Here are few more we are going to keep track of leading into ours:
- Penn St. @ Ohio St. (12:30 pm) (ESPN/ABC)
- Boston College @ Notre Dame (12:30 pm) (NBC)
- Miami @ South Florida (12:30 pm) (ESPNU)
- Washington Oregon St. (12:30 pm)
- Utah @ Washington St. (2:00 pm)
- Vanderbilt @ Tennessee (4:00 pm) (ESPNU)
If you are watching these games or tracking others, use this to chat them up. This is your open thread to sound off on all matters related to college football leading to Bruin kickoff today. Fire away.
GO BRUINS.

I was just
thinking the exact same thing. While it does make me sad to think of this being the last Home Game of the season, I am also excited for next year. (if and only if we hire a new HC.)
Not surprised Michigan winning but surprised at by how much
Their offense is really clicking today. The game against tOSU should be a good one. Fickel has done a decent job regrouping the Buckeyes
I know it's not going on right now
But wow…Iowa State. I wish I didn’t hate the Ducks.
I always want to face undefeated trojans in our annual Grand Finale...
(it’s good for the Pac, for the West, and more importantly… the victory would be that much sweeter (knowing we also knocked them outta something good). I’ve alwys felt that way. (Most differ, I know). Go Bruins!

I don't really care for the Trogans being undefeated
I hate them but I don’t care for the Ducks either.
Duck fans are the WORST.
Eugene is Oregon Bro Central.
Go Bruins!
Go Wildcats!
Go Cougars!

...I wouldn't hold my breath
Unless the entire $uc team eats bad turkey on Thanksgiving.
We clinch today, matter that game.

NBA: Where Greed Happens. RIP 10/10/11.
What if we beat Colorado and lose to $c
While ASU wins out vs. Arizona and Cal? We’ll be 5-4 in conference and they’ll be 6-3…
oops - no matter the trojan game.
U-C-L-A Fight, Fight, Fight! Go Bruins!
NBA: Where Greed Happens. RIP 10/10/11.
Ah, wasn't sure what the rule for since $uc's ineligible
My hope: $uc beats the Ducks tonight to wreck Oregon’s title game aspirations. The “hangover effect” for $uc leads to them falling to us next Saturday, and the momentum from those two wins leads us to a shocking upset of Oregon in the Pac-12 title game…followed by Dan resigning to spend more time with his family. Odds of all this happening: thirtyseventeen-jillion to one.
You forgot to add
Danny is back at short stop for the BB team.
Michigan shredding the Huskers.

Did you listen to Urban right before the half?
He was talking about the Michigan and Nebraska’s offenses and commenting how neither of those offenses are built for no-huddle two min offenses (as Michigan totally flailed around down the stretch). It was interesting because his comments could have totally applied to our run-option oriented pistol offense as well. Thought it was interesting.
BTW … kind of annoying that ESPN pairs him up with Chris Spielman every game. It means he has a direct channel for OSU related lobbying every freaking weekend (or moment).
Yeah. Don't just love BSPN?
As for Meyer, he has good insight be he is as wooden as the oak in my front yard.
by orlandobruin on Nov 19, 2011 12:21 PM PST via mobile up reply actions
I'd offer Meyer the football job and the AD job (he can replace the FB coach whenever he wants).
And I’d move heaven and earth to help Dan get into the NCAA yesterday… if that would make all this possible. Drastic? Yeah… Drastic measures require drastic action! Go Bruins.
U-C-L-A Fight, Fight, Fight! Go Bruins!
NBA: Where Greed Happens. RIP 10/10/11.
Me too.
Don’t get me wrong. The criticism was just about the lack of personality in his commentary. Kind of the anti Gus Johnson.
Guy is very smart and has a great FB mind.

UGA about to clinch the SEC East.
Missed LSU, Bama, and Ark in conference. They’ll be playing one of them un the SEC championship game.

9-2 with a close loss to the other USC and ...
…respectable loss to Boise St. Will do that. Their D did a complete 180 from last year too.
They finish against GA Tech next week.
by orlandobruin on Nov 19, 2011 12:33 PM PST via mobile up reply actions
If Neuheisel had a record like that ...
We wouldn’t be where we are today. I have always liked Richt.
Heck, 7-3 right now...
…with keeping UTand Furd respectable and he’s fine right now with hugh expectations for U$C.
by orlandobruin on Nov 19, 2011 1:01 PM PST via mobile up reply actions
9-2 is a great come-back from 0-2 for Richt.
Really glad he was able to get the detractors off his back this year, especially after that start. Todd Grantham has been a god-send for that defense.
(And we can also thank Lane Kiffin for sending Jarvis Jones our way, by far the best player on UGA’s defense.)
Nick Montana just throws a beatiful roll out TD against OSU
UCLA could have had Montana but didn’t make much effort to recruit him of Oaks Christian (even though we had a nice pipeline going with Cassius and Malcolm).
Once Hundley's ready
I don’t think we’ll be missing anyone. I am a Brett-liever.
It's about QB depth
There will not be anyone experienced to backup Brett after next year. If we had a redshirt freshman like Montana available we’d look to him instead of burning Brett’s redshirt. It is all about roster planning/management.
Fair enough
Although if Hundley wins the starting job next year, won’t Prince and Brehaut still be around as seniors to back him up?
True enough
but B Olson didn’t pan out so well IIRC
Poor logic
We shouldn’t recruit/be hopeful about highly touted recruits just because the last one was disappointing? Drew Olson was a decently touted recruit and he turned out fine.
BTW
Even though I like Nick Montana I don’t think much of Sarkisian. I saw some LOL funny posts about why UCLA should consider Sark as an option for next HC. Uhm, no. Fine thanks.
Do you think Chris Peterson is a serious option
Now that Boise’s out of the BCS? You know it’s got to be frustrating him that:
- if he goes undefeated, he still doesn’t make the NC game,
and
- if he loses once, he definitely doesn’t make the BCS,
and
- if he loses more than once, his season is a huge disappointment.
Wouldn’t be the case here. And also, how long can a tiny school unknown for anything except football in a remote part of the country stay nationally competitive?
i think he would leave for the right money
the question is, how much would we pay?
It depends
Chris Peterson is a professor at Michigan.
Chris Petersen is the coach at Boise State.
But hey, what do I know. Iām just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
Not a great slate of afternoon games out here.
Watching Houston take on SMU. Pulling for them (UH) to go to a BCS bowl so I can win my bet.
We shoulda beat ’em.
by orlandobruin on Nov 19, 2011 1:06 PM PST via mobile reply actions
Houston's BEST win is over us.
That’s frightening.
These last 3 games...
…assuming they get to the CUSA conf. championship game are the meat of their schedule. @Tulsa next week & 1 loss So. Miss if they get to the championship.

Watching some Arkansas vs. Mississippi State
Boy that Arkansas offense is fun to watch. I think their stadium might fit nice where Drake is too.
Hoping Oklahoma wins out. Voters should put them ahead of Bamako and Oregon. Both had their shot.
Got a bad feeling about our game later…
But hey, what do I know. Iām just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
That stadium is very vertical.
It could fit. Miss. St. is a bit down this year (tough division!) But I like Dan Mullin. Petrino is working miracles at Ark.

I just can't stand the SEC team.
Lundquist is a complete buffoon and Gary Danielson still has a Tebowner.

I like Lundquist for basketball, he's surprisingly good
Not as much for football.
He is a toad.
But, yeah, better for tourney hoops, but maybe that’s cuz its tourney hoops.

ND
besides my love for Notre Dame (them and Missouri) anything to piss off u$c
I don't like our past vs. Notre Dame
Ending the 88-game streak, Digger, Quinn-to-Smardzija…ugh. The only good thing they ever did for us was shockingly blow us out in ‘07, which was basically the final nail in Dorrell’s coffin. I usually still root for them (especially against $c) but not as much as I used to.
the smardzija game hurt my sole
my family tries to pretend it never happened
Your sole?

Greetings, all
I remain amazed at the amount of griping about the announcers. There’s an easy solution.
I know, I know.
I like the sounds of the game. So I simply avoid games with announcers I don’t like. Thats why I am watching Houston and not Ark.

Slightly OT
But I saw Western Michigan play the other day. Liked their uniforms for some reason:

I wonder why…guess who makes them too…
But hey, what do I know. Iām just the 800 lbs bruin in the room.
THE UCLA STRIPE
right? right? Clearly Western Michigan got shortchanged by adidas because that’s not a TechFit jersey. I mean you can’t even see his belly button. How can adidas do that to these guys?
Better.
But still not as good as the full hoop.
by orlandobruin on Nov 19, 2011 3:04 PM PST via mobile up reply actions
Let me just re-iterate again
If UCLA officials are even thinking about considering Sarkisian a coaching candidate, they’d be beyond stupid and MORONIC.
I REALLY HOPE THEY ARE NOT THAT FREAKING DUMB. Yes, I am shouting.
Sports radio in LA
Suc radio carrier 710 espn has about 5 hours or more of pregame coverage and then more coverage the next day. Our carrier 570am barely has over an hour of pregame coverage and sometimes the post game is 30 minutes.
Do they think Bruin fans are not that dedicated or wonder to themselves why cover a horrible product for an extended period? Or both?

June Jones has turned.that program around.
Explosive offense, just like at Hawaii.
by orlandobruin on Nov 19, 2011 3:13 PM PST via mobile up reply actions
i dont think they're there yet
27 points a game is middle of the road… although a shut out is good for Houston’s D
Let me say it again
Steve Sarkisian – awful. Only a MORON would think UCLA should consider him as a decent candidate.
Where are you hearing that?
I agree. Ridiculous.
by orlandobruin on Nov 19, 2011 3:11 PM PST via mobile up reply actions
Have spotted two garbage links in last few days
Making the argument (haven’t bothered to share them). Now I am hearing buzz that apparently someone is stupid enough think Sarkisian is a good coach for UCLA. If someone in Morgan Center is that f**king dumb, that whole place should be burnt down.
Remember the post I wrote up during preseason
On Sark and Neu. That posed “upset” number of Husky fans. But its turning out to be pretty prophetic.
Under Armour is making USF the next Oregon...

ND up on BC 13-7
i remember reading a fanpost on a UCLA/ND FB comparison. I was reminded right now as Brian Kelly elected to punt on 4th and 1 (inches, really). Crowd boos ensued.
Tech coming back against Missouri
And, I’m cheering until they threw to Adam James. Ewww. Cooties on the football.

Anyone see (hear) Corso drop the F bomb on Game Day this morning?
Here’s the video.
Personally, I find it hilarious. Almost as funny is that ESPN made Corso apologize later on camera, since BSPN never got around to apologizing for Craig James existing.
greg in denver, U.C.L.A. guy for life - BruinsNation.com
The downside, if it's a downside, of never hearing Corso at all is never hearing him drop an F bomb.
I think my life is better having never heard Corso or his cronies for many, many years. The notion that Lee Corso is deemed by ESPN to be authoritative demonstrates how low the standard is. Corso’s overall coaching record is 73-85-6, and that includes a grand total of ONE season over 500 at Indiana. He is a buffoon. If I want to listen to buffoons (and I don’t) I can put on any number of news shows, or WWE or the Real Housewives.
I don't consider him to be an authority
I do think he’s kind of entertaining.
greg in denver, U.C.L.A. guy for life - BruinsNation.com
I watch these games and realize how much I love college football
when someone else is playing it.
I cannot wait until we get back to playing the game the way it should be played.

It looks like we get the Bruins on Versus tonight.
What are the odds on the first play being a run? If I were colorado, I would put eleven guys between the guards on that first play.
I hope the buffs do that
Because then we can toss it in the air!
Crowd will be small
There was no wait on the shuttle ride. 30 minutes to kick off and the Rose Bowl inside and out looks like a ghost town

Sad. The apathy is the fault on one entity.
The Moron Center. And UCLA is 4-1 at Hoops will be worse.

Sad state of affairs
We are facing a 2-9 team that is giving up an average of 38 pts a game and hasn’t won on the road in 3 years, and plenty of people think they will beat us.
