BN Gameday: Colorado Pre-Game Thread

How many times his name will be mentioned during the OSU game? (Photo by Doug Benc/Getty Images)

Here is the bad news. We just have two more regular season of college football Saturdays left.  :-( But here is the potentially good news. We are that much closer to openly discussing the candidates for the next football coach at UCLA (well that'd better be the case). We will have our  usual open thread for the Bruins game coming up at 4:15 PDT. Until then, here is an open thread to get everybody through the early afternoon games, as well as chat about some of the later games.

Couple of early games of BN interest - Minnesota @ Northwestern and Nebraska @ Michigan - are wrapping up right now. Here are few more we are going to keep track of leading into ours:

  • Penn St. @ Ohio St. (12:30 pm) (ESPN/ABC)
  • Boston College @ Notre Dame (12:30 pm) (NBC)
  • Miami @ South Florida (12:30 pm) (ESPNU)
  • Washington Oregon St. (12:30 pm)
  • Utah @ Washington St. (2:00 pm)
  • Vanderbilt @ Tennessee (4:00 pm) (ESPNU)

If you are watching these games or tracking others, use this to chat them up. This is your open thread to sound off on all matters related to college football leading to Bruin kickoff today. Fire away.

GO BRUINS.

I was just

thinking the exact same thing. While it does make me sad to think of this being the last Home Game of the season, I am also excited for next year. (if and only if we hire a new HC.)

Not surprised Michigan winning but surprised at by how much

Their offense is really clicking today. The game against tOSU should be a good one. Fickel has done a decent job regrouping the Buckeyes

Ah, wasn't sure what the rule for since $uc's ineligible

My hope: $uc beats the Ducks tonight to wreck Oregon’s title game aspirations. The “hangover effect” for $uc leads to them falling to us next Saturday, and the momentum from those two wins leads us to a shocking upset of Oregon in the Pac-12 title game…followed by Dan resigning to spend more time with his family. Odds of all this happening: thirtyseventeen-jillion to one.

Did you listen to Urban right before the half?

He was talking about the Michigan and Nebraska’s offenses and commenting how neither of those offenses are built for no-huddle two min offenses (as Michigan totally flailed around down the stretch). It was interesting because his comments could have totally applied to our run-option oriented pistol offense as well. Thought it was interesting.

BTW … kind of annoying that ESPN pairs him up with Chris Spielman every game. It means he has a direct channel for OSU related lobbying every freaking weekend (or moment).

I think the only former football coach I kind of listen enjoying to on the phone (John Madden being way old school) is John Gruden.

I'd offer Meyer the football job and the AD job (he can replace the FB coach whenever he wants).

And I’d move heaven and earth to help Dan get into the NCAA yesterday… if that would make all this possible. Drastic? Yeah… Drastic measures require drastic action! Go Bruins.

9-2 with a close loss to the other USC and ...

…respectable loss to Boise St. Will do that. Their D did a complete 180 from last year too.

They finish against GA Tech next week.

9-2 is a great come-back from 0-2 for Richt.

Really glad he was able to get the detractors off his back this year, especially after that start. Todd Grantham has been a god-send for that defense.

(And we can also thank Lane Kiffin for sending Jarvis Jones our way, by far the best player on UGA’s defense.)

Nick Montana just throws a beatiful roll out TD against OSU

UCLA could have had Montana but didn’t make much effort to recruit him of Oaks Christian (even though we had a nice pipeline going with Cassius and Malcolm).

by Nestor on Nov 19, 2011 12:44 PM PST reply actions

Once Hundley's ready

I don’t think we’ll be missing anyone. I am a Brett-liever.

by ucla139 on Nov 19, 2011 12:57 PM PST up reply actions

It's about QB depth

There will not be anyone experienced to backup Brett after next year. If we had a redshirt freshman like Montana available we’d look to him instead of burning Brett’s redshirt. It is all about roster planning/management.

by Nestor on Nov 19, 2011 1:02 PM PST up reply actions

Fair enough

Although if Hundley wins the starting job next year, won’t Prince and Brehaut still be around as seniors to back him up?

by ucla139 on Nov 19, 2011 1:05 PM PST up reply actions

True enough

but B Olson didn’t pan out so well IIRC

by tpizzle on Nov 19, 2011 1:08 PM PST up reply actions

Poor logic

We shouldn’t recruit/be hopeful about highly touted recruits just because the last one was disappointing? Drew Olson was a decently touted recruit and he turned out fine.

by ucla139 on Nov 19, 2011 1:10 PM PST up reply actions

BTW

Even though I like Nick Montana I don’t think much of Sarkisian. I saw some LOL funny posts about why UCLA should consider Sark as an option for next HC. Uhm, no. Fine thanks.

by Nestor on Nov 19, 2011 1:03 PM PST reply actions

Do you think Chris Peterson is a serious option

Now that Boise’s out of the BCS? You know it’s got to be frustrating him that:

- if he goes undefeated, he still doesn’t make the NC game,

and

- if he loses once, he definitely doesn’t make the BCS,

and

- if he loses more than once, his season is a huge disappointment.

Wouldn’t be the case here. And also, how long can a tiny school unknown for anything except football in a remote part of the country stay nationally competitive?

by ucla139 on Nov 19, 2011 1:44 PM PST up reply actions

by orlandobruin on Nov 19, 2011 3:04 PM PST via mobile up reply actions

Let me just re-iterate again

If UCLA officials are even thinking about considering Sarkisian a coaching candidate, they’d be beyond stupid and MORONIC.

I REALLY HOPE THEY ARE NOT THAT FREAKING DUMB. Yes, I am shouting.

by Nestor on Nov 19, 2011 2:31 PM PST reply actions

Sports radio in LA

Suc radio carrier 710 espn has about 5 hours or more of pregame coverage and then more coverage the next day. Our carrier 570am barely has over an hour of pregame coverage and sometimes the post game is 30 minutes.
Do they think Bruin fans are not that dedicated or wonder to themselves why cover a horrible product for an extended period? Or both?

by UCLA Championships Made Here on Nov 19, 2011 2:49 PM PST via mobile reply actions

Let me say it again

Steve Sarkisian – awful. Only a MORON would think UCLA should consider him as a decent candidate.

by Nestor on Nov 19, 2011 3:08 PM PST reply actions

Have spotted two garbage links in last few days

Making the argument (haven’t bothered to share them). Now I am hearing buzz that apparently someone is stupid enough think Sarkisian is a good coach for UCLA. If someone in Morgan Center is that f**king dumb, that whole place should be burnt down.

ROFL

It means Sarkisian will be firing his loser DC and will probably be kicked to the curb himself in 2-3 years.

by Nestor on Nov 19, 2011 3:33 PM PST up reply actions

I like it

It may save Tom O’Brien’s job. NC State is not going to be our competitor in the coaching market but less suitors out there the better. But on the other hand ASU will most likely looking for a HC too.

Here’s the video.

Personally, I find it hilarious. Almost as funny is that ESPN made Corso apologize later on camera, since BSPN never got around to apologizing for Craig James existing.

The downside, if it's a downside, of never hearing Corso at all is never hearing him drop an F bomb.

I think my life is better having never heard Corso or his cronies for many, many years. The notion that Lee Corso is deemed by ESPN to be authoritative demonstrates how low the standard is. Corso’s overall coaching record is 73-85-6, and that includes a grand total of ONE season over 500 at Indiana. He is a buffoon. If I want to listen to buffoons (and I don’t) I can put on any number of news shows, or WWE or the Real Housewives.
