That's 5.7 Million a year, Dan.

In case you were wondering what being competitive looks like.

Now, that also give tOSU a guy that has won 2 national championships and taken Utah to the cusp of playing in one.

I’m thinking a guy like Mike Leach should go for about 4 million.

Winning is not a sometime thing; it's an all the time thing. You don't win once in a while; you don't do things right once in a while; you do them right all the time. Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing. ~ Vince Lombardi

on the cheap we've had one on-the-job-trained HC and one damaged-goods HC

our first and foremost problem is an AD with terrible judgement

And tOSU is a public university

Not just that

Ohio has one of the worst economies in the country.

Agreed, though sadly we are worse than OH in that regard judging by unemployment rates and foreclosure rates and state deficits.

I think it's ridiculous, really.

You get what you pay for, and we suffer for that, but I’m sorry. That’s more than most NFL coaches. And he’s not worth it IMO, too many personal issues and questions. What was Florida’s record his last year with all that talent? How much stress does he put on himself and how much can he take? I dunno, and he probably doesn’t either.

I agree with Mexi on the “hunger” issue. I’m willing to pay what it takes to get a top tier coach, or a real up and comer, but they have to show me they want my job, too. They have to want my school, my program, to become personally invested in it, not just take it because they’re showered with money. I don’t want another Vermeil, great coach who leaves after two years.

Thinking out loud I’m not so worried Morgan Center won’t put up the needed money after ten years of going cheap and the luxury of the new PAC 12 revenue stream. I think they’ll pony up enough. The real problem is who the Hell wants to put up with Morgan Center and Blockhead and the complete failure in support.

Leach is hungry. Fangio? Who else?

I dunno what happened. Sorry.

I’ll make it short. Too much money. Not worth it. Some question marks. More than the NFL.

Give me someone who’s hungry, like Mexi says, who wants my program, too. Not a stepping stone, a destination.

Leach or Fangio or who?

Speculation here - no evidence at all

Maybe Meyer saw that things were not pointing to another powerhouse team, and lost the fire for coach kids instead of managing stars.

Someone asked about his stats – they’re not exactly Neuheiselesque:

2001 8-3 Bowling Green
2002 9-3 Bowling Green
2003 10-2 Utah
2004 12-0 Utah
2005 10-2 Florida
2006 13-1 Florida (National Chanp)
2007 9-4 Florida
2008 13-1 Florida (National Champ)
2009 13-1 Florida
2010 8-5 Florida
Total – 104-23.

Or to put it another way, our coach would have to go 83-0 to tie in wins, but he still would have four more losses. To match in winning percentage, our coach would have to win 122 in a row. Neubs base their “let’s keep Rick” campaign going based on assumptions about te future. Well, how’s this for an assumption – Rick goes undefeated for ten years, and that shows he’s just as good as Urban.

His stats are off the chart.

And I am speculating, but 13-1 to 8-5 and resigning for health or stress reasons Is a red flag. Almost $6 million a year? What, he wouldnt take 5? If he wants that much, go coach the Patriots.

I agree we need to spend real money, no more bargain basement, but there is a limit beyond which it makes no sense.

His "worst" year was 8-5

in 2010. Imagine if he did that here? We’d build a statue for him.

Be careful what you say!

Rick can still go 9-5. (sarcasm off).

Ha

If Rick goes 9-5, I’ll build the statue

Agreed, I saw the 8-5 in Fox’s post and my first thought was “that’s pretty darn good.” There is no insult worse than low expectations.
