Around SBN: 7 Important Questions About The Heat Vs. Celtics Series

Martin is "regarded as one of UW's better recruiters, one of the assistants who handles the southern California area."

Looks like another great get for our staff from a recruiting standpoint, and further locks down UCLA's ability to recruit in its own backyard. Reading through some of the user comments, it looks like UW fans see this is a major loss in recruiting power, but not as big from a coaching standpoint given UW's secondary struggles.

Good hire

I think any weakness he has in actual coaching will be offset by Mora, who is a DB coach

this seems like a great hire.

I like that we are pulling top recruiters from other P-12 programs. It makes us stronger and weakens them (hopefully).

so far, so good

really hoping we land Mazzone soon. With ASU reportedly getting a coach in place now we need to snag Mazzone before they do.

Looks like ASU is going with Graham from Pitt

Mora is starting pretty strong, but the big hires remain OC and DC. Would love to land Mazzone, providing he wants to come…

Just something to think about

Our last regime had good recruits but the coaching and development. Now I understand Mora has a learning curve to this whole recruiting aspect of the game, but we also need coaches to develop these recruits. I think our next set of hires for the staff should focus on the X and O’s and teaching fundamentals, because that is why CRN failed, not because he didn’t have the talent. Mazzone would be a definite step in the right direction towards a balanced staff of recruiters and developers/strategists.

agree

the talent was there, I think Mora wants to make sure he’s able to reel in a solid class right way – he’s clearly got alot of learning to do in the recruiting side of things so let’s get some people who are star recruiters to fill that gap. With Mora being an ex-db and DB coach himself, I’m not all that concerned about a slightly weaker db coach who’s going to go out and get us some solid talent.

I like the position coach hires so far, but reserving final judgement until the OC and DC are in place.

I don't know if it's "talent' or lack of...or

“development” or “X’s” and "O"s but until and unless The new Staff can get good production from the O-line guys that we already have…it will be very difficult to run the race without the horses.

I really will be curious to see how things shake out in this regard! Oh welll…another attempt is coming down the peak.
