Replies to 2 fundraising emails from UCLA - one way to make the point

Today I received 2 requests to donate to UCLA.

Below is my response to a fundraising request from Dr. Roger Farmer, Chair of the UCLA Dept of Economics. This verbiage was also used to reply to Dr. Glen MacDonald, Chair of the UCLA Institute of the Environment & Sustainability. I copied Chancellor Block in both of these replies.

Perhaps if the Chancellor starts to hear from department heads that donations are being affected by DG's performance he'll pay attention. But we'll need a lot of alumni to do this.

Dear Dr. Farmer,

Thank you for your email. Unfortunately I will not be supporting the Economics Department with a contribution, although I do support your work, having graduated with a degree in Economics from UCLA.

I have decided to make no monetary contributions to UCLA. As an alumnus I take no pleasure in so doing. My reason: I'm completely disgusted with the mismanagement of the Athletics Department - specifically the leadership of Athletic Director Dan Guerrero. In my view, Mr. Guerrero has caused serious damage to the UCLA brand with his inept handling of athletic affairs and has embarrassed alumni and students alike.

I will contribute to UCLA again, once Chancellor Block has relieved Mr. Guerrero of his duties, sets straight the Athletic Department under new management, and provides a vision for excellence.

Best regards,
