National Champs! Bruins Beat Illinois 3-1 to Clinch Title #108 for Westwood
Congratulations to Coach Michael Sealy and all of the ladies on our women's volleyball team! The Bruins just finished their match in San Antonio, dropping the #3-seeded Illinois Fighting Illini by the score of 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 26-24, 25-16). The ultimate honor of scoring the championship point fell to senior Sara Sage, who was set up by none other than super senior setter (try saying that three times fast) Lauren Van Orden.
In a tight match that was worthy of a national title game, the Bruins were led by none other than the junior sensation, Rachael Kidder, with 20 kills and 8 digs. Tabi Love got herself 14 kills. Lauren Van Orden put up an impressive 53 assists and 17 digs, while Kelly Reeves, Bojana Todorovic, and Lainey Gera picked up 16, 18, and 19 digs, respectively. Freshman standout Zoe Nightingale chipped in with a near double-double (8 kills, 10 blocks).
A phenomenal victory for Coach Sealy and these outstanding Bruins. Way to go ladies and once again, the national title is back where it belongs: Westwood.
Fire away with your celebratory thoughts this NCAA Championship #108 open thread.

765 posts during the game
less than 300 for the basketball team.
LOL
If that isn’t a damning indictment of Ben Howland, Chianti Dan, and how far our basketball program, which is supposed to be THE basketball program, I don’t know what is.
From preseason predicted Pac-12 champs to Pac-12 chumps
Hopefully CBH can turn it around and make us a decent, tourney-bound team..
Go Bruins!
More a damning of DG and Morgan center.
In the end, who watches UC Davis?
Love seeing that flag fly
with the national championship trophy out.

A Great Bruin Victory and #108 NCAA Championship!! Great Job Ladies!!!
It takes a little bit of the sting out of the Mens H20 Polo loss to $C and Soccer loss to UNC…
Amazing team and game
I was following the comment thread and had no intention of jinxing anything. LOL
Let’s hope Sealey is starting something special in Westwood. Go Bruins.

GO BRUINS!!!
I was lucky enough to see the team in action against Stanford and CAL and was so impressed by the skill and athleticism of the team. Way to go Ladies!!! Congrats UCLA on number 108!!!!
Great win - congratulations!
Look like they’ll be in good shape for a few years to come. Outstanding and looking forward to next year. Thanks for the excitement!
I already have an email from the UCLA store to get a Championship t shirt.

I kinda feel sorry
for that one girl that made the photo from the wrong side of the net. Looks like a Florida St. photo. Great loom on her face, though.
Our comment threads are exploding...
…for women’s volleyball.
Can you imagine what would happen if the idiots at Morgan Center would wake up and invest in our football program and get us a real winning product?!
+1
Bellerophon….it would be euphoric!!!

They're awake
but still not very competent. Once you get past the splash page there’s no mention yet. Wouldn’t you have a short story in the can just in case? Maybe a video? Something.

Nice job ladies!
Congratulations to our UCLA Women’s Volleyball! You make us all proud to be Bruins!
A great match!
Real nervous time with 2nd set collapse and two set points down in the 3rd. But the girls hung tough to pull it out and then dominate the 4th. A true team effort.
Maybe someday we’ll win men’s basketball again, and football again (I was 2 years old when that happened), and women’s basketball again.
Bruin Woman Win National Volleyball Title
Beating Penn State and Texas on the way? This was a team of destiny….after losing in mens’ soccer, and the woman’s soccer team losing early, and the water polo team going down to SUC, this was sweet! Congratulations. UCLA continues to demonstrate why they are the leader in national champsionships….
Despite the excitement...
Chianti better not feel as though he has any pressure taken off of him. This has nothing to do with him. He’ll obviously use this to take any attention off of his ineptitude.
That guy is on top of everything Bruins

A National Championship is a National Championship. I can’t believe this is only their fourth national title. Hope that changes with Coach Sealy.
Hard for me to believe!

Cant to raise the banner in the newly remodeled Pauley.
I will be there.
We are third all time with four
Standford has six, while PSU has five. We can do this.
I've high hopes for our Gymnastics team
…as well as W. Water Polo. After all, they had a four-peat just a few years ago.
How about Men's golf?
With Patrick Cantalay?
Womens Golf? Baseball?
When does Womens golf start?
Damn, I loves me some national titles …

Congrats to my Bruins!
Kudos to the WVB players, coaches and staff! Christmas comes early!
So glad all our planets were aligned and that “Jupiter” did not align with Mars! Double happiness that SC is not in the title game.
That was one hell of an exciting championship match.
A dream season and can’t wait for the next season to start.
Game thread
Loved seeing all the posts during the game, love seeing UCLA bring home another championship even more.
Yes. UCLA has the most national championships in collegiate athletics.
UCLA is creating and breaking records as they bring home NC after NC trophies.
stanford has 102
Stanford is second, U$C has 94 and is third
Thanks, I didn't know that the top three were all PAC teams from California
The blood of "The Five" cries for justice.
No sir, I love to go over there and look at them
and read everyone of them.
When we play WSU and you come to our games, I will be happy to show them to you.
Sounds good
I look forward to going to Pasadena someday. It would be even better if we got to go to Pasadena without having to play UCLA.
The blood of "The Five" cries for justice.
the Rose Bowl is a thing of beauty (especially for the BCS Championship), and
the parade is not bad too. Get to meet the Queens and Courts, the Grand Marshals.
Not as long as your Women's Water Polo team has anything to say about it
They have thrived under Guerrero

…thrived in spite of Guerrero.
Overall, our non-revenue sports have not dominated like they did before Chianti Dan’s Reign of Error. There’s a past post on BN about that here.
I loved the way the Bruins closed it out.
The end was so much fun to watch. A great final push. UCLA is a special place with incredible tradition. (Karch Kiraly did the analysis on ESPN 2) Volleyball is our sport!

@UCLAWomensVB Incredible run to win the #108 title for @UCLAAthletics. What a great place to work!
Third Set was the turning point
After the second set collapse, that third set when we fought off two set points and came back to win it was huge. The announcers (including Karch, who was trying TOO hard to be impartial) kept talking about how Illinois was a great comeback team, and then for our women to suck it up and win it… at that point I was feeling pretty good about things.
UCLA!!!
(p.s. I also went to the Ponda today to watch us play UCD, so all in all, it was one of the better days for UCLA sports in a LOONG time!)
Ecstatic
If there was ever a time we desperately needed one of our teams to step up and win a national chamoionship, this was it. Thanks to our women’s VB team for an amazing run through the tourney, with class, absolute clutch performances and a killer instinct. Let this be the spark that re-lights the torch of UCLA Athletics. 108!!
Congratulations!!!
There clearly was something very special about this team. I was at many matches this year and they always played with tremendous enthusiasm, drive and focus. Coach Sealy is the best! Thank you for number 108! Go Bruins!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am not sure how long this will be available,
but here is the link if you would like to watch. Well worth your time.

It really ate at me that they lost at home to SUC on senior night, but I’m sure that tonight more than made up for that.
We’ll miss all of them next year, especially Lainey and Lauren, but the rest of the gang will be back next year for another run. If Rachael can put together another season like the one she had in 2011, we may be seeing her inducted into the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022.
is it just me or..
do these girls get hotter now that theyve won? i have a crush on zoe and mariana :)

Awsome Match!!!
Missed it live because of a Christmas Party, but got it on the DVR and watched yesterday morning with my 7-year-old daughter, who I have taught to love all things UCLA.
A couple of things bugged me about the broadcast though. For one, they made it sound like we’ve been out of the wvb landscape since the the ‘91 title, which is far from the truth. We’ve made it to the final four as recently as 2006. Second, they say this is our 3rd NC, which leaves out three more before the NCAA became the sanctioning body for women’s sports.
