Here is the complete "interview" from the official site of Coach Jim Mora:
The video is a classic puff "PR piece" in which Mora is answering softball questions. The rhetoric sounds "right" but as Classof66 notes:
CRN said all of the right things, too. Yet, he could not deliver.
To some extent, he got trapped by the culture. I fear the same may happen to Mora.
CRN and CJM shared one quality when hired - they were not in demand and in a weak position to make demands. I think that is why DG hired each of them.
I had great hopes for CRN and supported him. I will do the same for CJM.
But, talk is just talk. I don't care what he says about discipline or expectations or the social media or any of the other things about which he's been talking.
He has to win 9 games next year and beat sc.
I would also add that I rather not have Mora and any other new UCLA coach evoke Coach John Wooden's name before coaching a single game at UCLA. It sounds tacky and kind of cheap. I understand Mora here didn't bring it up but there was no reason for to serve up that question.
The Morgan Center always does this with new UCLA coaches. It is a predictable, stale and tacky PR tactic that doesn't serve Coach's legacy in Westwood well. It's one thing for Coach Ben Howland to mention Coach Wooden during those Final-4 runs, it's totally different for a new coach to bring up Wooden to gin up "excitement" without proving himself or herself in Westwood (the women's basketball coach did the same thing in her initial statements after Chianti Dan failed to retain Nikki Caldwell).
None of that is going to matter much if Mora doesn't get it done on the field next season.
GO BRUINS.
