[L]ast season was supposed to be an appetizer. Lavin's ten seniors were workmanlike overachievers. And the former UCLA head coach had managed to sell six of ESPN's Top 100 recruits for 2011-12 on his vision for St. John's basketball. Lavin's demeanor is perfect for New York, and the city would have embraced him for restoring his team to relevance.
But while nothing went wrong for Steve Lavin in his first year, almost nothing has gone right since.

Is it true Gene Keady is no longer on the bench during games to “coach the coach”? I just invision a situation where Keady does real coaching and Lavin does the recruiting. Without Keady to cover his ass during games it won’t be long before Lavin is canned.
In fairness, Lavin did have to deal with cancer treatments...
, and no improvement in coaching ability would change that.
That being said, instability and inconsistency are pretty much his millieu ON the court as well, not just off of it.
