Special CFB Open Thread: California v. Texas at The Holiday Bowl
Time for another special college football open thread. We will do these special threads for all Pac-12 Bowl games including one on New Year's Day. Tonight it's Texas and California at the Holiday. The game should be interesting to check out for number of reasons. It is always good to keep an eye on Pac-12 opponents. We are all familiar with Texas here on BN.
It should be interesting to see how this game unfolds in San Diego. The game is on ESPN. Here is tWWL page to keep track of the box score. We will let you take it from here. Fire away in this open thread.
GO BRUINS.

There's the Cal team I know
Lucky break. I have a feeling Cal is going to get walloped tonight. But Manyard has shown a lot of promise and is fun to watch when he is on. Bright future for him.

Apparently nobody coming to the Rose Bowl
to watch Oregon vs. Wisconsin that you can get a pair of end-zone tickets for $110 each. The face value is $150 each. The Rose Bowl people is even advertise ticket sales in the LA Times. It must have been for the first time. Usually it is a sell out. The capacity of the stadium has been reduced to 91,000. How do you like these apples?
They made a freaking big deal about us
selling excessive tickets to former employee for big $$ donation to the athletic dept.
Why don’t they buy up the tickets?
Yep
They’ll be all over the southland in a day or so. I always love seeing them at the pier in Manhattan Beach, in all of their red watching the volleyball players on the beech in their bikinis. Who wouldn’t make the trip? And I’ve always had enjoyable conversations with them. They’ll be here.
Go Bruins!
I think they'll be here!
I hope they bring their cow to fly over the Rose Bowl. Always loved that.
Go Bruins!
That's interesting - didn't know it was bad
Meanwhile, Texas QB looks atrocious. Amazing what happens when you put pressure on a freshman QB.
Cal has pretty decent talent on their roster
We have brought in lot of blue chippers. We just never developed them.
Cal's two minute drill looks a lot like ours!
sloppy play, wasting timeouts, standing around in the huddle without any sense of urgency..

OT
Clippers getting torched by the Spurs. I don’t like the spurs, but after stern f’d over the Lakers, I’m glad to see them taking a beating.
Go Bruins!
Good deal.
Maybe the Clips will come back down to earth and their fans too.

Yah.
I feel badly about my feelings about this because I have nothing against Griffen nor cp3. But the whole things just irks me. And they still haven’t done anything.
Go Bruins!
Always hated the Clips.
Have been totally mismanaged since they have been here. This is the first time that they have ever had any real shot at anything important.

I do wonder if Sterling has turned over the management to someone else lately.
Seems like they are finally not doing jerky things.
Go Bruins!
I would normally root for any Pac 12 team, but I am kind of hoping
, for recruiting sake, that Cal loses.

Meh
I think rooting for conference is kind of over-rated. I am happy to root for other programs whose fanbases root for UCLA. But I usually don’t see that in this conference.
I feel like that drive for Cal to about an hour and a half. Then they fumble.

taken Manny away from Wwood?
He may still be an option according to some voices.

Is that a Pac 12 thing?
Get the ball and see how far backward you can go in four downs

Nope.
The D is looking pretty decent though. They just need to work on their offense.

Postscript....
….we go to the Holiday Bowl each year, and originally was not too thrilled with the matchup…..Texas has been here in the past and often “phoned it in” because they were pissed they hadn’t gained a better bowl….and Cal was absolutely pathetic against UCLA, especially the QB…..only game of the year that the Bruins had FAR the superior QB……
…..However, we knew that Texas was glad to be bowling again anywhere after last year’s debacle, and the UCLA game seemed to give Cal the slap in the face they needed, going 3-1 down the stretch with a good effort against Stanford….so we thought maybe we’d get a good match.
Uh….no. Cal’s QB play was even more horrid than it was against the Bruins, and other Bears chipped in with key fumbles, dropped passes, blown coverages and stupid penalties…..What was even worse, they had that dead ass, mope around the field, “we don’t wanna be here” look that we’ve seen so often from Cal in recent years…..I know that Jeff Tedford only needs to say “Tom Holmoe” to get a contract extension and the slobbering gratitude of the Cal faithful for deigning to stay in Berkeley…..but when will they began to demand some results ? Or at least something better than a MAC refugee at QB?
Bruins fans are rightfully upset with the lack of progress in our football program over the past several years, and Neuheisel paid the price with his job……but I think I’d be a lot more upset in a situation like Cal where the players consistently fail to perform to their potential, and the answer always seems to be, “wait until be have our new facilities ready”…….and of course, “Tom Holmoe”……
