BN Gameday: Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl v. Illinois Second Half Thread

Well that was just as ugly as we all expected. The half time score is 7-3. The score is indicative of two pathetic offenses in action. There is no point in analyzing what went wrong or what went right for the Bruins right now. I do give some kudos to Kevin Prince for playing like a warrior and our defense making a huge stop on 4th down, blowing up the Illini on 3rd and goal and our special teams unit for thwarting a fake FG attempt, despite not getting much support from the offense.

Oh and let's make it clear - DO NOT POST THE BASKETBALL SCORES IN THIS THREAD. If you want to follow the hoops game, go here. Fire away in the second half thread.

GO BRUINS.

defense was good at the end of the half

still not enough pressure on the qb. too much bend but at least no break yet… hope we can adjust over half time but haven’t seen that yet.

what happened to that explosive offense on the first series? went into the tank for some reason….

Seminole County?

Given the level of play, I would assume Seminole County is the half-time entertainment again. Emerald Bowl vs Florida St was even more painful. It would be nice to have a real football program, where we could play a real bowl game in a real stadium in January.

Supporting Jim Mora is better...

…than cheering for BT, KD or RN. I’m continuing this from the last thread. Really? Please tell me how so. I’ll wait for results on the field, but on paper, how can you even say that?

And just to update everyone, I’m at the game now, and young alums everywhere are chastising my high expectations of the team and calling me old for graduating in 1999. It escapes them how I could go through 4 years without losing to $C.

by Kerckhoff405 on Dec 31, 2011 2:23 PM PST via mobile reply actions

You got me

I have young alums yelling at me for calling for Chianti Dan’s head. No joke I already got the “Well another NFL coach took a college team to the BCS named Pete Carroll” like 4 times already. When I educate them that UCLA was the first team ranked #1 in the BCS, they stare at me blankly and say, “Oh really?”

Why are we playing this game?

By my calculation, the university lost $400,000 (assuming normal ticket price distribution) by selling 3000 seats out of alloted 11000. The bowl presumably covers expenses. But the school’s cut above that is split equally among all conference members (at least that is how it was in Pac-10). So we are spending $400,000 to put the nation into a collective snooze?
We should have a clause in every coach’s contract that having a season where UCLA is invited to play a bowl game in December in a baseball stadium in SF is grounds for immediate dismissal.

I assume the bowl covering expenses is hotel, transportation, meals, etc. It can’t be covering the ticket shortfall, otherwise the bowl is simply robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Insurmountable Lead

3 point deficit would have meant UCLA could recover a fumbled punt on the 1, and move back to the 10 on 3 running plays up the middle, and then kick a tying FG. But I don’t think they can do that twice.

I don't think you can say that, bb.

They both show up every day. The problem is that they’re both bad. They’re very bad. I think it’s the overall schemes. They’re bad. We have to depend on Kevin Prince to be a superb runner and a superb passer and he just isn’t. He’s an OK player, but he isn’t skilled enough or fast enough or shifty enough or dynamic enough to be what the offense needs. Our receivers can’t catch. Our blockers can’t block. Our coaches can’t coach. Pudemtogetherandwhadyagot – bibbety bobbety boo. A 6-8 year.

Margin of Defeat

That touchdown means UCLA now down only 45 points combined for the 2 basketball games plus football

Shoot

If we had recovered the onside kick, with our hurry-up offense, we could have got in position for a long field goal, and beat the spread. Darn.

So

Even if we would have gotten that it would not have counted because we were lined up wrong!!! Speaks volumes

Fitting way to end....

Maybe they jumped the wall on Special Teams day so they didn’t know where to line up or that you need at least 4 on each side.

Happy New Year To One And All!

U-C-L-A Fight, Fight, Fight! Go Bruins! Go Lakers! Go Dodgers! Go Angels!
Ben Howland empties my passion bucket for UCLA Basketball, and I resent it.

Most of the poison will be gone for next year. Fresh start for Mora with a good

bunch of players coming back. Not to mention some good recruits. Happy new year from Las Vegas.

He's a good kid.

Got to give it to him. He always gives 100%

Been a Bruin since birth

He (KP) showed a lot of grit coming back from major losses, injuries and poor play around him...

The coaches put him in incredible situations….and he kept his head held high!! I had such high hopes after that away game at Tennessee when he broke his jaw but led the Bruins most of the way! Kevin Prince reminded me of a Jeff Dankworth or John Sciarra without the supporting cast..A true competitor.

Now, I'll go light some sage and cleanse the residue of this year

Perhaps the most frustrating Bruin football season of my life. Now let’s roll past this like a freight train past a hobo in the night.

Thank you BruinNation and the Mods for making this season bearable. I learned quite a bit from...

everyone’s posts and interesting dialogue! I will now prep the bowl of Black-Eyed Peas and Cornbread…eat my 12 Grapes at Midnight (one for each dong on the clock….tradition in Spain) and hope for better luck in 2012!!

Go Bruins…Winter and Spring Sports! Get Pauley Finished and bring excellence back to Westwood in Football and Basketball!

Happy New Year Bruins 2012!!

The only silver lining from playing in this worthless game.

Mora could see for himself that he must start Hundley or Brehaut to have a prayer next year. KP has the heart of a linebacker, but is at best a serviceable backup, period, which is the main reason our offense has stunk for the last three year.

And bye-bye pistola, thank goodness.
