To fellow Bruins, With our Athletic Department headed by an individual who has lost the confidence of many alumni, and with a football head coach position about to be filled, we need to take our collective frustration and channel it quickly - We need to make a very public statement and propose a solution to Chancellor Block.
Proposed: That we as a group create a one-page advertisement in the Daily Bruin and run it several times. It would be an open letter to Chancellor Block. This letter would contain bullet points of Mr. Guerrero's failures/shortcomings and ask for his replacement. Then, in an effort to be positive, we would suggest to the Chancellor several candidates to replace Guerrero - with their respective strengths. (My own personal favorite is Mr. Kiki Vandeweghe, but there are others.) This letter would be signed by alumni, giving their years of graduation and would be paid for by the undersigned.
In addition to the Daily Bruin, depending on the level of financial support for the idea, we could also run the same open "Letter to the Chancellor" in the LA Times - sports section. Perhaps I'm way off on this, but it seems that our Chancellor needs help. He's obviously a very bright, academically-minded individual. However, he has little, if no, prior experience in athletic department oversight. At this important cross-roads for athletic programs, he may be at a loss for a course of action.
We can help him get there and we can be a positive force. Perhaps there are other means to achieve the change in the Athletic Director position. If we are going to be an effective force for that change, then we need to take actions as a collective group. Perhaps there are additional ideas.
