ICYMI - Mike Leach hires UCLA assistant Jim Mastro
Bruce Feldman reported this via Twitter. Mastro of course came from Nevada last season to help integrate our running game into the pistol based offense. I thought he did a good job and I think he will thrive under Leach. Good get for the Cougs. Congrats to Coach Mastro and good luck to him.

I’m sure he’ll do scary-incredible things with Leach up in Wazzu. I don’t think any Bruin holds a grudge against Mastro. Luckily we won’t have to face him very often.
Probably a good move for Mastro
he’s got extensive knowledge of the Pistol/coaching a rushing attack, some years under Leach and learning elements of his aerial attack definitely adds some diversity to his resume. Good luck to him.
Not so bold prediction
Mastro will flourish at WSU. This will show that the issue is not how much UCLA paid its assistants, but how well it used its assistants. Or from another perspective, Leach could have walked into Westwood and put up winning numbers with the players and assistant coaches already on board. Of course, he would have had to average about 50 or so a game, given our lousy defense.
