UCLA could win the national championship in 2011. Vegas is giving us 150:1 odds (football). Not bad!

$20 bet would cost nothing but pay back buckets.

It’s the 5 hour drive that prevents me from doing it.

Please confirm my guess

that this is a Dumb and Dumber reference. I definitely busted out laughing when I read the title. Whether that is what was intended or not, here is a link.

Whats scary

Is we basically tied a one seed (Kansas) and beat a two seed (BYU), a National Championship is a possibility!

by PurpleRabbit on Feb 18, 2011 4:57 PM PST reply actions

Sorry

I should have clarified. Those odds are for football.

Ha HA!

Wow I’m a little too excited for march madness!

seriously

I always find odds like that ridiculous. There is a reason Vegas is made up of palaces. If you honestly assessed a statistical chance that it could happen what odds would be reflective of the truth? 1 in a million? I always use to laugh seeing the odds of a 16 seed in March Madness to win a title and remark how you probably had a better chance to win the lottery than wasting a dollar on a 16 seed to win the title. Statistically speaking what is a greater chance… a particular 16 seed winning the ncaa tournament, winning the big one in the lottery or UCLA football taking home a national title next season? Needless to say the odds are futile on all 3 and it’s really a waste to bet on any of those outcomes.. but bang for your buck and the odds you get you are probably better off playing the lottery.

Big difference between football and b-ball futures

NCAA football futures rarely make money for the ticket holder; March Madness futures on the other hand are a relatively easy way to score a few bucks. I’ve actually profited in four of the last five season on NCAA b-ball futures (my only loss came when I refused to hedge against our ‘08 team in the Memphis game, cost me $5000 in potential winning but I couldn’t sell out my boys).

My proudest moment came last year when I took Butler preseason at 80 to 1 for $124. I lost $1000 betting against them in the Syracuse game but I still made a net $1700 by betting $7400 on Duke in the title game (no matter who won I was going to make $2700 on the game).

This year I got Witchita State at 500 to 1 so it’s a little more precarious that in the past but I still think I can make a small profit.
