Update (A): Tracy Pierson is now reporting that UCLA will announce it's hired Rocky Seto as its Defensive Coordinator today. May be other frontpagers might not agree with me on this one but I am not going to get on board with this. I can't. Ir Rick doesn''t get it done next season, not only he should be held accountable, Dan Gurrero and Gene Block should also be held responsible. For now I am not going to be supportive of this sad show. This is an EPIC FAIL on all fronts.
I thought my last fanpost labeling the football mess at UCLA as getting the "Cairo treatment" was a bit harsh. Let's be real here. We can't compare the historic events across the world to something that is supposed to be pure entertainment. I was trying to joke around a bit but it probably didn't hit the right tone. My bad.
I will instead call the situation our own version of the "Rocky Horror" football shall. Because if Rick Neuheisel is seriously considering hiring the "Defensive Quality Control Dude" for Pete Carroll, there will not be much room for spinning out of Morgan Center.
Some of the lines we are hearing as "justification" for this mangled mess is that this guy is a Pete Carroll Jr. Think about that for a minute. Think how many key strokes have been spent on this blog and all over UCLA boards in last few years exposing his program. Think about all the moral righteousness from the UCLA community about not ever wanting to be like USC. Now folks are being asked to swallow the line that this Seto guy would be a mini-Carroll? Sorry. No can do.
The guy has no tangible game planning experience. Another spin is that apparently Sarkasian wanted him and "settled" on Holt. But Sarkasian didn't have the option of hiring Shannon and the Washington Athletic Department didn't go quiet for 2 months sending signals that they were going to shoot for guys like Vic Fangio and Randy Shannon.
May be this Seto guy will work out. May be Rick and Dan will come to their senses today and move away from Seto.
The fact that he is being even seriously considered confirms that Dan Guerrero and the UCLA administration have no interest in putting together a strong football program.
They took almost two months to come up with this?
This has been an unending horror show. If Seto gets hired as DG mentioned Rick will get "one shot." That "one shot" should also apply to Dan and probably also to Gene Block at UCLA.
