[Updated w a poll] Way OT - Who to root for in the Super Bowl
I don't particularly like or dislike either team, so I reverted to science to determine who to root for.
Pittsburgh has a guy named Steve McLendon who went to Troy, and it has Troy Polamalu (who I am very tired of hearing about, but who I truly believe walks on water.)
Green Bay has Spencer Havner and Brandon Chillar, and only one trogan, Matthews.
Therefore, the numbers compel that I root for Green Bay.
I am happy to share this with my brothers and sisters. I need no congratulations. Just knowing that I have served humanity is more than enough compensation.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Wife is a Steelers fan . . .
. . . and half my family is from Pittsburgh, so I will root for them, notwithstanding Polamalu, who, as far as Trogan’s go, is far from the worst.
I cannot stand Matthews. Wish Chillar and Havner were healthy.
And thanks for sharing.
Funny about troy the trogan
I love to see him whiff on a tackle. I don’t like the guy. I don’t like the guy with the sound off, so with the sound up it is sure to get worse. (The sound will be on at the Super Bowl party at which attendance is mandatory and at which I do not control the remonte.) Everyone who plays in this game is the greatest, blah, blah, blah. I really don’t need to hear that about a trogan. I do admire him for his willingness to take a pay cut when he left Figueroa tech, but other than that, he’s the prototypical pile of dog crap on the front lawn: I don’t hate it, I just wish it weren’t there.
Unfortunately, by the very nature of college and professional sports, players we do not like in college may make to pro teams we do like.
You’re a Tampa guy . . . remember Keyshawn in 2002?
Or Del Rio coaching MJD and Marcedes.
Or Fisher coaching ATV (not anymore though).

That's how I feel about Clay Matthews
And in fairness, Del Rio and Fisher don’t seem to be typical trogans. Fisher even filed a lawsuit against Kiffykins.

or for me
Having to root for the Jets with Mark Sanchez.
(If it was Matt Leinart I would renounce my fandom immediately. and that’s despite my whole family being diehard Jets fans…)
Sanchez redeemed himself in my eyes
by ripping on Cheatie when he bolted to the NFL. Of all the trogans in the NFL, he’s probably the one I’m the most OK with.

Not only that,
He reps his High School whenever he’s doing a post game interview by wearing a MV hat. (Mission Viejo) Instead of a Ketchup and Mustard hat.

Same here...
my dad and I are diehard Jets fans. Our outlook is that as long as Sanchez isn’t the star of the game, we’re perfectly okay with a Jets win.

Actually, Meshawn was before my time here in Tampa
The Bucs are very hard to root for, but for reasons unclear, I find that I do. Have you heard their radio announcers, Orlando? I have never heard a worse pair. They are truly unlistenable.
You mean . . .
. . . Gene “We’re going for it on 4th down” Deckerhoffer? Like he’s suited up? Yeah, he’s horrible. The worst homer ever. The Bucs have a nice young core of players though.
How are the Bucs hard to root for?
Maybe the last two years, but this year’s Bucs team was probably one of the easiest teams to root for in years. They’re young, there was no pretension, and they were really talented. It’s a shame they didn’t make the playoffs. Josh Freeman’s going to be fun to watch in the coming years, and their defense is coming around as well.
He might be fun to watch for you, but not for us here in Tampa
because all the home games were blacked out. Yep, all of them.
We got to see a lot of Miami games and a lot of Atlanta games, and naturally all the Cowboy games.
I prefer it when the Bucs win, but I’m not devastated when they lose. It’s different with the Rays for me, for some reason. They are really exciting. The play by play guy, Dwayne Staats, is the only play by play guy that I can actually listen to, but alas he has Kevin Kennedy in the booth with him, and Kevin is lousy. When the Rays had Joe Magraine, before he went to MLB, it was wonderful. He was very witty. I got to work a game in the booth with him, and he was funnier off the air, and more insightful off the air as well. He had some insights that I don’t think would be appropriate for me to repeat about the reality of major league ball.
Packers
I would rather root for a small town Northern California kid than an alleged (repeat) rapist.

Believe me.
Most Steelers fans would like to see Ben gone. They are ambarrassed.
I like Rodgers too and would have rooted for the Pack against any other AFC team that made the playoffs (Ravens, Jets, Colts, Chiefs, and Pats) preferred the Pack to the other NFC teams as well (Bears, Falcons, Eagles, Saints, and Seahawks).

I've heard the same sentiment from a number of Steelers fans, and I don't doubt the sincerity.
It’s refreshing to hear, actually.

Go Pack Go!
Because I married into a Cheesehead family and Jonathan is to be raised a Cheesehead, and there is a lot about the Packer organization that I have come to appriciate.
Packers beat my Bears...
… so I’m just cheering for my numbers in the office pool.

Steelers
My first three years of playing football in YFL I was a Santa Barbara Steeler so naturally if the 49ers aren’t in contention, my second favorite team has always been Pittsburgh win or lose. Both fan bases are terrific, I have more personal experience from packers fans, one of my best friends is a diehard cheesehead. I had a great time with courteous Wisconsin fans besides the outcome of the game, during the 1999 Rose Bowl. Great people. The real toss up is when you look at each towns food. Lol. Go Steelers

Who to root for
I went to school and was friends with former Bruin All American Jimmy Allen, who went on to play strong safety for the Steelers during the steel curtain era. So I’ve always liked the Steelers. But that was a long time ago (ouch), so I’m rethinking. If one of the two Bruins on IR for the Pack was playing, it would be a no brainer. I guess I’ll have to wait and see what my Super Bowl pool numbers are before I decide.
Go with the team "Closest" to California.
Ever since we lost our pro teams in L.A. I found it hard to care or even root for another team. So in order to drum up some interest for me I root for the team which is geographically closest to Los Angeles. So I am rooting for the Packers.
That's as good as any other reason.
Mrs. Fox 71 rooted for TCU in their bowl game because she liked their uniforms.
Hate Ben, Hate Troy...for different reasons.
Dislike Matthews, but it’s not hate. Really like Rodgers…he’s like a non-Bruin that I feel really good about. And two Bruins on the IR is better than none. I imagine they’ll still be ecstatic.
So for me it’s easy. I just could never root for either Ben or Troy…never. And it’s too bad, I used to like the Steelers and Pittsburg is a great town.
Go Bruins!
Packers
Because of Rodgers. Yeah I know he’s from Cal, but what’s theirs is ours, right?
Threadjack!
Seems like the Sanchize found himself more trouble:
