Dysfunctional DC Search: Can We Trust Dan & Rick Any More?

Stay connected for news and updates

Thanks to the amazing efforts of Meriones, gbruin, tasser10, OswegoBruin, Blue Reign, Classof66 and many others in this community UCLA might have avoided making what we believe would have been a diastrous decision by hiring an inexperienced and unqualified "quality control assistant" who just happened to be a ketchup and mustard bleeding Pete Carroll Trojan.

That gives me a sense of potential relief but I remain very flummoxed and dispirited in the way Dan and Rick have continued to embarrass our program.

Quick recap here.

On January 24:

Bruin Report Online has heard a reliable report that Randy Shannon, the former head coach of the Miami Hurricanes, has agreed to be UCLA's new defensive coordinator.

Tracy, as Meriones noted, is the best UCLA related reporter in the country. His sources are better than anyone else. He is also an extremely sharp, decent, and hardworking guy who is a tried and true Bruin. Based on this track record of over a decade of reporting on UCLA sports, I think we can deduce that he was passing on good information.

Then I don't have to lay out in detail what took place in last 3-4 days when Seto was basically offered a job by all accounts. He would not have typed up that divine message to his Trojan buddies unless he had an understanding that he had the job.

What is going on here? In span of less than two weeks two DCs were reportedly offer the job at UCLA. This just just embarrassing.

The part about Seto story is also disconcerting because it shows Rick had no pulse on our fanbase and it is even more disturbing that Dan Gurrero might have signed off on it.

I want to add that I am not sure I accept the explanation of his text to the Daily Trojan. I get the sense it was due to a huge part of the pushback spearheaded by Meriones and others here on BN. Boosters read this blog and are a big part of it.

At this point I will be OKAY if Rick and Dan take a little time to come up with a DC who has credible experience since then the hoopla around NSD is over. But can we trust them?

We don't really have any options but to give these guys at least one more year to bring back UCLA football but the question is how could the administration and Rick be so clueless? It took them almost 50 days to come up with THIS?

Just sad and unacceptable.
