It was really good to hear from bruinmac7 a few weeks ago regarding CBH reaching out to frats and the student body to increase student attendance. That was an insight I really appreciated. As a season ticket holder, I definitely saw a bump in student attendance after the CBH reach out. On Wednesday against $C I saw the largest student attendance in several years. It was just great. It was a real turbo boost to the atmosphere of the game. CBH, on the post game radio interview, expressed his gratitude to the students and how important it is have them out in force. Then I came today expecting another solid showing for a very important game and I see that the student section only consisted of the floor bleacher section, hardly a soul was in the 300's. Three days earlier the students had filled 1/3 of the seats in the 300's. What was up with that? Why such poor attendance? Maybe a student could give me some insight into this?
While I am on the subject of attendance, I am often dismayed by how we only get about a 75% turn out of season ticket holders for even Pac 10 games, and maybe 75% is a generous estimate. Is there anything to be done to get warm bodies in those seats that have been bought? My uncle has season tickets to the Mark Taper Forum, and when there is a show he does not want to attend he can call the ticket office and get a tax deduction for donating the seats back to the Mark Taper. I wonder if it would be possible to do something like that at Pauley?
Further, at football games we give away end zone seats to nonprofit youth organizations. Its a win-win situation. The kids get a nice afternoon and we get our attendance boosted. Why, in a year, where there are empty sections of Pauley is this program not expanded to basketball? We need the bodies, we need the support. Our team deserves the support. I have seen our team questioned this year for being "soft" on D. Well, it looks the team is addressing that legitimate criticism. Now, is there some way to address our '"soft" attendance?
