After a tumultous week, I think it has become clear by the response of this community how much our football program means to us. The threads were getting hundreds of comments, and as was pointed out earlier, we had something like 50,000 unique visits to BN during those crazy days.
Most amazingly, there is a good chance that all the thoughtful comments provided here had an impact on the Rocky Seto situation.
SB Nation believes that a "grassroot internet effort" might have had a hand in making sure that our voices were heard with regard to having Rocky Seto as our Defensive Coordinator, when talking about our #VetoSeto campaign.
UCLA fans took to social media platforms to publicize the rhyming slam, boosters cornered athletic department staffers at Signing Day press events, and lo! Over the weekend, the L.A. Times reported the offer (if there ever was one) mysteriously vaporized:
Well it seems that there is passion for UCLA football after all.
tWWL took notice as well:
It appeared last week that Neuheisel was on the cusp of announcing Seto's hiring, but apparently things turned sour in the eleventh hour, perhaps in part because many Bruins fans didn't want a former Trojan running their defense, particularly one without a proven track record. Seto is presently on Pete Carroll's staff with the Seattle Seahawks helping with the secondary.
We all know that we are not the three wealthy and influential alumni...unless they are indeed amongst us. What we do know is that we are many, we truly care, and we have UCLA's best interests at heart. And if all indications are correct, the concerted effort by everyone here, via the thoughtful yet passionate comments, did in fact have an influence.
In short, a big thanks to everyone who contributed...and don't understimate the potential of this online community.
