The LA Times has quotes I haven't set seen regarding the Rocky Seto disaster. Apparently CRN was the one that both hired and fired Seto within 24 hours. He says in the article that he wasn't pressured to do so. Follow the link for more information.

Might this have anything to do with it?
Seto believed the job was his, even sending a text message to a writer at USC’s Daily Trojan saying, “[I] have accepted the position tonight to coordinate at UCLA,” which was included in an online story.

We all know what happened

Neu offered the job, word got to him on the massive uproar on the internets, and backed off.

Seto’s stupidity actually saved us. 1) It notified/freaked us out before he was announced 2) gave the blogs time to react & make their feelings known. Had he kept his mouth shut, chances are Seto would have been announced at that press conference.

Still, gotta respect the balls on Neuheisel for taking the risk on Seto. If CRN was more established/doing well/or an experienced defensive mind, maybe he could have gotten away with it.

Certainly up for debate if crn taking the risk on Seto

was a ballsy move or surprising lack of touch with the fanbase and the impact an association with Petey’s program would have on UCLA. I think you’re in a pretty small minority on this one.

That's not what I intended to imply.

Chow was with Petey – I can’t argue that. Chow was also with a number of other programs, and had significant success before joining up with Petey. Seto’s only connection with football (after a JC) has been $c with Hackett, $c with Petey, and Seattle with Petey. He’s been with Petey for ten years.

Chow was with Petey for three years, and as Fox71 pointed out in another thread, that may well have been enough for us to have ignored him in the first place. I think we’re both coming from the same place: hiring Seto would have been monumentally wrong. I see your point in your reply to Htse005 below.

Sorry, my opinion differs

It is not " balls " for Rick to do what he did , then rescind it. He plainly thought he could pull a fast one, fact accomplished and get on with it.

Maybe there is plenty than meets the eyes behind the scene. The long drawn out, frustratingly futile processes got the best of him. Rick is not without headcoaching experiences, when you think of it. Knowing what it would be like on the hot seat and still made an inexpicable choice thus tells us what he is going through right now. So perhaps a birthday shindig at Cabos is the right thing to do at this moment.,

Loose lips sink ships

Although embarrassing for our program (again), I’m happy it worked out this way. I have such disdain for Cheaty Petey that I found it hard to believe one of his disciples could have possibly been the right guy for a senior coordinator position at UCLA.

That being said, Seto has handled the “fallout” from his mistake with class, in my opinion. His quotes about UCLA and CRN have been humble and gracious. Not sure if that means anything, but it’s worth noting.

Hire a true and qualified DC, NOW!!!!

CRN should look at the pros for this position and hire someone with no ties to $uc. Must have a good understand withthe recruiting process. Be a positive and uplifting coach to get the most out of these young men to perform at a higher level.

Any suggestions?

A random demand sounds great, but if you’ve paid any attention to the process over the past 7+ weeks, you’d notice there aren’t dozens of experienced, skilled people out there that:
1 meet with crn’s approval in terms of style and personality,
2 are proven D-1 recruiters,
3 have the willingness to come to UCLA for the relatively low pay we apparently offer, and
4 would be comfortable in a new position with very poor job security.
I’m curious to know who you have in mind.
