While the basketball team awaits their NCAA Tournament fate, the baseball team is on the big stage at Dodger Stadium playing their biggest rivals, USC. The finale of the Dodgertown Classic pits the Bruins and Trojans against each other at Chavez Ravine, where last year UCLA came away 6-1 winners in front of 14,588 fans. That kind of Bruin win can't be much of a surprise considering the Bruins have won the last five and 13 of the last 17 against the Trojans without dropping a series since 2005.
Having dropped the Friday game against Georgia and won the Saturday game against St. Mary's, UCLA comes into the final game of the weekend needing a win over the Trojans to avoid a third consecutive losing weekend. With that on the line, the Bruins will turn to a freshman, but he's no ordinary freshman. Adam Plutko has the lowest ERA on the UCLA team having allowed just one run in his three starts and limited opponents to a .169 batting average. Opposite Plutko will be Logan Odom, a senior who is 0-2 with a 4.91 ERA, but is coming off a strong 7.2 inning start last week against Cal St. Fullerton where he allowed just two runs.
For those of you looking to follow along today, GameTracker will have it and you can get all the in-game updates, along with links and other information on my UCLA baseball twitter. John Ramey and Co. will be back giving you the play by play online. The game will also be shown on tape delay at 7 pm PST on FS Prime Ticket so you can give it a watch there. The game should be a great scene for college baseball and the Bruins so use this as your open thread and share any updates, thoughts or observations right here.
